When you start this clip, everything seems to be going fine. A Progressive Field-sized crowd has gathered to watch some amateur hockey. Now, jump to the :30 second mark and be prepared to see the most Slap Shot and/or Happy Gilmore thing you have ever seen in real life. Tired of hockey fights where guys slip around and hold each other by the shirt? This is for you.

The YouTube video itself provides very little context, with the title “Geste stupide au hockey” or “stupid gesture with hockey.” It should be called “Geste impressionnant au hockey,” because a guy whipping out a Blazing Sword and slicing his opponent in half to defend the universe (in this case, a local skating rink) is pretty awesome. Really the only way it could’ve been better is if the recipient had his helmet crack down the middle and fall off, with intestines and bugs falling out of it like he’d been killed in Vampire Hunter D.

It's time for another installment of YouTube Showdown. This week, in honor of this Sunday's Patriots-Packers matchup, let's take a look at whose destruction would make for a happier America: Cheeseheads or Massholes.

First, via The Big Lead and Mass Live, here's a guy who can't be beaten to death with blunt objects soon enough.

Nothing could possibly be worse than that, right? Oh, friends, you underestimate drunk Pats fans. Put the earmuffs on for this one, because the haters are about to hear it from this guy, a man whose verbal dexterity was no doubt learned by beating up the captain of Harvard Debate Team.

This here is YouTube Showdown, a new segment I'll do occasionally to preview a sporting event. Today's Showdown looks ahead to tonight's ESPN telecast of the Wizards at the Cavs. Hence, Gilbert Arenas and LeBron James.

There are about a brazillion highlight mixes out there for marquee NBA players, but I like the way that these particular ones exhibit two of the Association's brightest stars. Arenas is one of the most delightfully forthright players in the NBA (just read his blog), one of the stars who seems most accessible as a person. In the video, he's portrayed as a mercurial genius, a hot hand unafraid to try the unthinkable, but also a player who can go through cold streaks. In a YouTube mix rarity, some of his lowlights are shown, as well. I'd like to think that this is the Arenas mix of which Agent Zero would be most approving.

As for LeBron, the sleek, packaged star, the do-it-all superhuman wonder full of power, speed, and grace… well, this is the video for him. I couldn't help but notice that he's good at jumping.
