Brett Favre To Retire. Again

01.03.11 Written by JOSH Z

Minnesota Vikings quarterback (and noted old guy that knows how to use a cell phone…allegedly) Brett Favre announced that he’ll be retiring now that his 20th NFL season is in the books, and he really means it this time! Favre’s 2010 season was among his most disappointing: after throwing a career-low 11 touchdown passes this season, he suffered a concussion in Week 15 and sat out his team’s last two games, including last week’s tilt against Detroit.

“I know it’s time, and that’s OK. It is,” Favre said after the 20-13 loss. “Again, I hold no regrets, and I can’t think of too many players offhand that can walk away and say that. Individually and from a team standpoint, it was way more than I ever dreamed of.”

“I don’t know for me if it’s ever easy,” Favre said. “I’m sure throughout this year, the comment has been made that, ‘We’ll wait and see in August or September’ and that’s fine. It’s time. I’m OK with it.”

–Y! Sports.

I’ll always believe that Favre thought he could wander into the Vikings locker room and simply pull another great season out of his ass like he did the year before, but Favre and the team never found their rhythm, and their season could not have been symbolized better than the collapse of the Metrodome last month. But I really think he’s done now; he was no longer a kid having fun out there. And that’s good, because most of us are ready to stop talking about him. He’s like that friend that comes over to your house unannounced on a Tuesday and you’re like Dude, it’s 12:30, I have to go to bed already. This is why I live in one of those mobile storage units. Who’d want to visit me there?

FAVRE ‘HIGHLY UNLIKELY’ TO PLAY IN 2010

The latest iteration of the annual Brett Favre “Will He Or Won’t He” saga is already underway, because this is the only way that the media can be so infatuated with Brett Favre when he’s not throwing interceptions.

Favre was more forthright [about his future] with ESPN’s Ed Werder, though, saying it was “highly unlikely” that he would play football again.

That comment matches what his teammates expect. FOX’s Jay Glazer also reported that all of Favre’s teammates expect him to retire. –PFT.

Favre just had his best season ever, statistically speaking, and he’d just been physically and emotionally through the ringer after the Saints bumped them out of the playoffs. And he really likes wearing jeans. I still think he’ll come back for 2010, based on the fact that he can still play at a high level, and that he’s so hard up for attention that he won’t be able to stay off the field until he’s wheeled off. He’s like Stephen Hawking in that way, and probably not in any others.

HE WON’T: CHARLIE GETS CANNED

11.30.09 Written by JOSH Z

The door, more than likely, will hit Charlie Weis in the ass on his way out of South Bend, according to a source cited by the New York Daily News.

This past weekend against Stanford, Weis refused to do halftime and postgame media interviews. He reportedly cleaned out his office Thursday before the team left for the West Coast. Weis is not the only one apparently leaving. Junior quarterback Jimmy Clausen was seen giving his football helmet to his familly following a 45-38 loss to Stanford in which he threw five touchdown passes, a strong indication he will declare for the NFL draft.

Weis reportedly has a bunch of offensive coordinator offers lined up, which is great, unless you happen to be sitting next to Weis on a plane to get there. Also fired: Al Groh from Virginia. But he wasn’t coaching Notre Dame, so…whatever.

CHARLIE WEIS: HE’S FIRED, RIGHT?

11.25.09 Written by JOSH Z

I’m getting really uncomfortable with all this “Will Charlie Weis be in South Bend come 2010?” talk. It’s annoying; when nobody was looking it turned into the autumn’s answer to Brett Favre’s “Will he or won’t he?” There’s no new information to throw around. And with the new “controversy” surrounding Kansas football coach Mark Mangino, it’s turning out to be a bad year for morbidly obese college football coaches.

But even though the buyout clause in Charlie’s contract is roughly the GDP of New Zealand, everything seems to indicate that Weis will be gone by season’s end. Notre Dame has blocked tracking access to its private plane, providing enough cover for the school to shuttle in potential candidates away from the media’s watchful eye. And that was before he lost to UConn. Hell, ten years ago, UConn was still I-AA. Notre Dame wasn’t doing much better then, either.

I don’t even care anymore. When the regular season ends, we may have four undefeated teams in Division I-A, and all we can talk about is this asshole. Nobody would care if this wasn’t some school that had lost all of its prominence from yesteryear. Hopefully the end of the Weis Era will also mark the end of the People Still Give A Rat’s Ass About Notre Dame era. Sorry, Charlie.
