Paulina Gretzky Just Proved Why Instagram Is Worth $1 Billion

04.30.12 Written by Burnsy

Last year, the Internet’s legions of dude bros rejoiced as having a Twitter account finally paid off when NHL legend Wayne Gretzky’s daughter, Paulina, was happily posting revealing pictures of herself for all of us to… respect and admire. Well, the Great One – like most fathers of absurdly attractive 23-year old girls – didn’t think too highly of that and he forced Paulina to remove all of the questionable pictures from her Twitter. Sadly, we were forced to find pictures of half naked girls elsewhere. So difficult.

Thankfully, what Wayne may or may not have realized is that the Internet has like 6 billion sites devoted to allowing people to post their pictures, and in case he didn’t hear about it, the popular photo sharing site Instagram was just purchased by Facebook for $1 billion recently. So yeah, that’s a pretty popular site, too.

Hey, maybe Paulina is on Instagram, posting pictures of her recent trip to Las Vegas with her boyfriend and their friends. Maybe she’s posting pictures of herself in a bikini in interesting positions with people of both genders. Let’s just check and see if this completely hypothetical idea is true… IT IS. Well done, Mark Zuckerberg.

The Great One, Gone Too Soon

paulina-gretzky-twitter

Last month, by way of one of the best photo galleries ever put together by man, we introduced you to Wayne Gretzky’s daughter Paulina. She’s gorgeous, and her only jobs or hobbies seem to be being gorgeous, taking pictures with an expensive camera, photoshopping them to look vintage and occasionally mentioning what her Dad does (or is about to do) on Twitter. We had a great set-up that benefited everyone.

Unfortunately, the first rule of Pro Stars is that you do not talk about Pro Stars.

Paulina’s Twitter feed has been discontinued, and the Toronto Star is speculating that her father’s involvement in a potential purchase of the Toronto Maple Leafs might have something to do with it.

According to the Star, before shutting down her feed, Paulina tweeted, “Having a nice sit down dinner with my dad about social media..haha #SIKEEE.” She then signed off on Saturday, writing, “Taking a break from Twitter for a bit. Happy Holidays!!! xoxo.”

I wonder sometimes if beautiful, semi-famous young people think Twitter is the audience from ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’, where the Fresh Prince characters can see them and they’re there, but nobody mentions it. If I said something passive-aggressive about my Dad on the Internet when I was a teenager he would’ve spent the next 20 years refreshing the page every day and grounding me for every haha-serving-as-punctuation and hashtag.

In all seriousness, we wish Paulina a quick and happy return to the Internet. She’s like Courtney Stodden without all the emotional abuse.

Great Moments In Professional Athletes Procreating: Paulina Gretzky

10.17.11 Written by Burnsy

I have a confession to make – I’ve been letting you down. What’s worse is that I’ve knowingly been letting you down. I’ve failed to come through on the topic that matters above all else – hot daughters of professional athletes and coaches. I know, I deserve your scorn and the shame that comes with it. Hopefully in time you’ll find it in your hearts to forgive me.

As for right now, I want to start making it up to all of you. Thankfully, in my morning reading, my buddy Chris pointed out a delightful post over at Boston Bar Stool about Wayne Gretzky’s daughter, Paulina. I’ve never been one to use hyperbole, but she may be the greatest offspring of a professional/collegiate athlete/coach ever. For instance, Tony LaRussa’s daughter, Bianca, is here…

And Paulina Gretzky is here…

*stands on chair, punches hole in ceiling, climbs through hole, holds hand above head*

Again, I’m a St. Louis Cardinals fan and Tony LaRussa is one of my favorite people on Earth, so obviously his daughter could look like that lady from “Two and a Half Men” and I’d still be like, “OK let’s do this.” That should speak volumes about my opinion of Paulina.

So I tip my cap to you, Great One. Way to slip that puck by.

NHL Puck-Up: $94K For A Hockey Card?

05.04.11 Written by Burnsy

I saw this story earlier in the week and forgot to mention it because I was more concerned with the liberty and freedom of Vancouver’s Green Men, but someone recently purchased a Wayne Gretzky rookie card for $94,163 from an online sports memorabilia auction. It is apparently an incredibly rare, flawless O-Pee-Chee card from 1979, and SCP Auction basically called it the most valuable modern trading card on the planet.

Tampa Bay Lightning 4, Washington Capitals 3 (Series: 3-0 TB)

The Washington Capitals scored three goals in the second period (big deal, football players do that just by kicking the ball) to grab a 3-2 lead over the Lightning heading into the third period. It really looked like Alex Ovechkin and Co. were going to splash some water on the red hot Lightning and climb back into this series. Instead, Caps goalie Michal Neuvirth allowed two goals in the third, which I have been told is not a good strategy.

Tampa’s Steven Stamkos and Ryan Malone scored the tying and game-winning goals, respectively, within 30 seconds of each other and the Lightning have now won 6 straight games as the 5-seed.

Fun Fact: The Lightning are the second most popular sports team in Tampa behind the Buccaneers. The Rays rank 714th.

COYOTE UGLIER: WAYNE GRETZKY QUITS

09.24.09 Written by JOSH Z

The most marketable face of pro hockey’s most unstable franchise is gone. Wayne Gretzky, who happens to be one of the greatest players to ever play the game, has quit as head coach of the Phoenix Coyotes.

“This was a difficult decision that I’ve thought long and hard about,” Gretzky said in a statement Thursday on his Web site. “We all hoped there would be a resolution earlier this month to the Coyotes ownership situation, but the decision is taking longer than expected.

“Since both remaining bidders have made it clear that I don’t fit into their future plans, I approached general manager Don Maloney and suggested he begin looking for someone to replace me as coach. Don has worked hard and explored many options. I think he has made an excellent choice, and so now it’s time for me to step aside.”

Gretzky’s replacement seems to be in hand, though no announcement has been made. And there’s a good chance that this could be it for the end of the Coyotes in Arizona, and the league-wide ramifications of the sale could be zzzzzzzzz…
