Pujols To Attend Glenn Beck Rally

Written by Ashley Burns / 08.27.10

Since learning that St. Louis Cardinals Manager Tony LaRussa and Triple Crown contender Albert Pujols will be attending Glenn Beck’s “Restoring Honor” rally in Washington DC this weekend, phones have been ringing off the hook at Busch Stadium. I know this because I haven’t been able to call Felipe Lopez today to ask him how his hunt for the single season errors record is going. It’s no debate that Beck is a polarizing figure in the world of political talking heads, and it certainly doesn’t help that LaRussa previously made news for endorsing Arizona’s immigration law.

However, despite the outrage over their decision to attend, LaRussa insists that it has nothing to do with politics. Regardless, shouldn’t the anti-Beck contingent be hopeful that the man with the strongest bat in baseball is going to be in the same place as the Fox News pundit?

Salute my Washington Monument, Huffington Post:

“I made it clear when we were approached: I said, ‘If it’s political, I wouldn’t even approach Albert with it.’ I don’t want to be there if it’s political,” La Russa said. “I don’t know who’s going to be there, who’s going to accept it. But the gist of the day is not political. I think it’s a really good concept, actually.”

Beck’s rally will also feature former Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin.

So instead of talking about how Pujols and my pick for NL MVP, Joey Votto, are neck-and-neck to win a Triple Crown this year, we’re going to hear about how terrible LaRussa and Pujols are for exercising their liberties and attending a speaking event while they’re in DC to play the Nationals. Maybe the Cardinals just want to be around a crowd of people at some point during this series.

RUNNING ONTO THE FIELD IS A GREAT IDEA

Written by Matt / 05.29.07

There really should be some kind of universal law that when a fan runs on the field, security shouldn't be allowed to make an arrest until the players have kicked the fan's ass.  Big ups to Maccabi Tel Aviv's Kobi Mossa, who delivered this particular idiot his righteous comeuppance and made an otherwise uninteresting Israeli soccer match totally sweet.

LeBron is Better than the Chosen People

Written by Matt / 10.18.06

LeBron James nearly registered a triple-double in only three quarters of work as the Cavaliers stomped Israeli champs Maccabi Tel Aviv 93-67 in Cleveland. Drew Gooden shot 9-of-11 from the field and even Larry Hughes kind of looked like a fraction of the $60 million was worth it.

I was disappointed that former NCAA players Rodney Buford (Creighton) and Will Bynum (Georgia Tech) play for Maccabi. I had a whole bunch of Jewish jokes lined up. But not the typical "running the media" jokes, because Israelis are different than American Jews. They kick a lot more ass. Probably because every country in a 1000-mile radius has at one time tried to go to war with them. Plus the IDF uses the Merkava (pictured), one of the baddest-ass tanks in the world.

One of my RAs in college had spent a year in the IDF. My God, she had a fucking killer rack. Stacked like a month of newspapers. I don't know how this post stopped being about LeBron, but when my mind wanders it usually ends up at tits.
