Still Undecided? Let The Obama Vs. Romney Taiwan Animation Boxing Game Decide For You

Written by Brandon Stroud / 11.05.12

Obama vs Romney Boxing Game

Normally, posts about Taiwan animation sports recaps are pretty straight-forward; Tim Tebow gets literally crucified, a newborn baby flies out of a womb with a handgun or Queen Elizabeth beats a kangaroo to death with a baseball bat. You know, the usual.

With Election Day right around the corner, our pals in Taiwan (and the uncredited nerds and graphic designers in Los Angeles who probably write and actually animate these things on the reg) have gone the extra mile. Instead of simply posting a bunch of videos of Barack Obama riding a tiger into a circus tent and tearing up a bunch of binders full of women, Next Media Animation has crossed over into the video game world and allowed you to control the U.S. Presidential candidates via their grim, violent, barely-drawn avatars.

Not content with showing wacky re-creations of world events, Next Media Animation is now getting viewers into the action.

The “Obama vs Romney Boxing Faceoff” game, released in time for the US election, lets viewers feel the ‘deep affection’ the candidates have for each other. The interactive online experience lets anyone become either President Obama or Governor Romney for a satisfying smackdown of the opponent in a virtual boxing ring. (via NMA.tv)

It’s like that old game where you could beat up Barney the dinosaur, only in 2012 for some reason, featuring people who will control the world. Who cares about the loss of our privacy and freedoms or a rollback on women’s rights when you can get 5-20 seconds of mild enjoyment out of a crudely done, virtual Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots? THIS IS HOW WE ROLL. And in all honesty, I’m surprised Taiwan didn’t whip out this concept for Hurricane Sandy. That thing got memed to death, and I would’ve enjoyed punching an anthropomorphic New York City subway system in boxing gloves.

Anyway, because I don’t have time to make a photo-realistic Romney and Obama in WWE ’13 before tomorrow morning, you can get more information about the game here, and watch a hype video below. They never touch, but their eyes are connected by lightning! AMERICA!

NBA Jam XXX, A Comedy Dream Come True

Written by Brandon Stroud / 10.25.12

NBA Jam cursing

To be fair, it’s more NBA Jam R than NBA Jam XXX, but this unearthed clip of the original NBA Jam with a ton of cursing in it (sample dialogue: “HE’S ON F**KING FIRE!”) is my new favorite thing. It’s the manifestation of every joke I made playing NBA Jam with my 13-year old friends, and yes, when you’re 13 there is nothing funnier than putting ‘f**k’ where it doesn’t belong. See also, The Dan Band.

The clip made the rounds in video game circles back in August, but I have Jason at Sportress Of Blogitude to thank for the share. Former Midway creative director Mark Turmell talked about the video with GameTrailers.com and gave us just enough to believe Tim Kitzrow saying ‘boomshaka-f**kin-laka’ really happened:

He said through a conversation with Side Mission on Facebook that he saw the video the other day and recalled doing some similar audio recordings with voice actor Tim Kitzrow during the development of the arcade game.

“I can confirm that in the early days we did record tons of off-color stuff,” Turmell said.

Lines like “Get that **** out of here” and “He’s on ******* fire” were recorded when they worked on the arcade version of the game for Midway. Turmell said they actually tried to put the “Get that **** out of here” line into the final version with a “bleep” sound over the offending word, but the NBA objected and it was removed.

Kitzrow wrote to them shortly thereafter with an e-mail that read, “uhhhh, I don’t remember saying ‘shit’ so much” and Turmell turned around and denied the cursing to Kotaku, so the clip isn’t real. But ultimately, who cares? It’s hilarious, and you should show it to everyone you know.

Video is after the cut.

You Can Finally Play As Justin Bieber In A Basketball Video Game

Written by Ashley Burns / 10.03.12

Just a few nights removed from barfing on stage, Canadian pop superstar Justin Bieber performed the show of a lifetime at the Staples Center Monday night. I know that because I looked at his Twitter feed and he’s been retweeting everyone who has Tweeted that his show was great and, according to some, propelled his swag to new heights. If only that swag would run out of fuel and plummet to the ground.

This morning, though, Bieber Tweeted a video that followed up a Tweet from last week that confirmed that the MVP of the NBA All-Star Weekend celebrity game – I think, who even remembers? – is available in NBA 2K13, which hit stores yesterday. I’d make fun of this, but he’s instantly an upgrade to the Orlando Magic roster.

The video is… less than flattering, as it shows Bieber being rejected and turning the ball over, before getting frustrated and throwing his arms up in the air. Interestingly, he is, in fact, waving them like does care. But please don’t feel bad for the Biebs, because as YouTube commenter DiaperBoy1996 points out, Justin is awesome at everything.

Alex Morgan And Conan O’Brien Danced To ‘The Final Countdown’

Written by Brandon Stroud / 09.27.12

Alex Morgan Conan

Conan O’Brien’s ‘Clueless Gamer’ segments are the best. If you frequent UPROXX, you may have already seen him play through ‘Skyrim’ as a cat named Mr. Buttons or not give a shit about ‘Minecraft’.

This week’s segment reviews ‘Just Dance 4,’ enlisting the help of U.S. Olympic soccer gold medalist/the Internet’s girlfriend Alex Morgan. Alex and Conan dance their way through Carly Rae Jepsen’s ‘Call Me Maybe’ and Europe’s ‘The Final Countdown’ before Conan gives up completely and leaves Alex to roll around on the floor by herself.

It’s five minutes of Alex Morgan dancing in workout clothes, people, you don’t need me to blurb this for you. Video is below.

The Best Part Of NHL 13? Goring Sidney Crosby Into The Stands

Written by Brandon Stroud / 09.26.12

NHL 13 glitchFrom the same tired, desperate-to-be-coding-Mortal-Kombat game developers who brought you “slide tackle glitch that makes soccer players into Liu Kang” comes the HERCULES GLITCH, a special assault that turns NHL 13′s standard body check into a monstrous attack that sends dudes flying into the stands. In this clip, we see Sidney Crosby get backdropped over the glass by Zdeno Chára. Well, it’s either Zdeno Chára, or the Bruins drafted Solomon Grundy.

Greg Wyshynski at Puck Daddy provides key suggestions for working through this glitch:

Suggestion for NHL 14: Smoke trails and a small explosion when they land in the stands. Oh, and if the game is in Philly or Boston, the player gets bludgeoned by the fans. This might also be a good place to have Mike Milbury as a secret character, with atomic shoe attack once you unlock him.

My suggestion: Make Zdeno the only person in the game who can execute the glitch, give him two extra arms and have him skate around in a loin cloth. Extra points if he can do a leaping stomp.

My Favorite Player In FIFA 13: Liu Kang

Written by Brandon Stroud / 09.14.12

FIFA 13 glitchIf I’d known they’d put special attacks into the FIFA games, I would’ve started buying them years ago.

On Tuesday, EA Sports released the Demo version of the FIFA ’13 video game, available for download on XBOX Live, among other platforms. As this is not the final version of the game, a few glitches were bound to be found, including one where a player making a slide tackle of an opponent sends both players flying across the field.

In a follow-up video I’m totally imagining, that player follows up his slide tackle with a squatting uppercut, then turns into a dragon and bites the other guy in half. Then Noob Saibot shows up and holds up a red card. Yeah, I wish this was the real game.

Anyway, I’m gonna keep playing the demo until it lets me morph Lionel Messi into Shang Tsung.
