A Belgian Goalkeeper Dove To Stop A Shot, Went Headfirst Into The Post, KO’d Self

Boubacar Copa Barry

"Missed it by THAT much."

I’ve seen a lot of unfortunate stuff during soccer games — not limited to fans throwing grenades at players and a kid in San Francisco running the length of the field to score a goal on her own team — but I’ve never seen anything quite as coincidentally unfortunate as what happened to Sporting Lokeren goalkeeper Boubacar Copa Barry during Sunday’s game against Club Brugge in the Belgian Pro League.

Barry was knocked unconscious when he dove to his right in an attempt to save Carlos Bacca’s shot and ended up lawn-darting himself into the goal post. Here’s the clip, which bleeds into “funny” territory now that we know he isn’t dead or paralyzed.

Another Dumb ‘I Dare You To Knock Me Out’ Knockout

Written by Brandon Stroud / 04.18.13

Dan Lewis Josh ColemanBack in October, we shared with you a clip of an MMA fighter deciding he was an invincible character from Bloodsport, making the COME AT ME BRO gesture to allow his opponent a bunch of free shots and getting knocked out like a goon. Since then the clip has gotten over two million views, all of them accompanied by a simple, easy-to-understand lesson: if you’re fighting for a living, don’t taunt the guy you’re fighting about how he can’t knock you out. He will do it immediately.

I guess Dan Lewis did not see that video.

He got knocked out in the first round by Josh Coleman during the Ultimate River Throwdown at Win-River Casino in Redding, CA, and why? Because he started smacking his own cheeks. You see, he’d gotten punched once and it didn’t knock him out, so he morphed into CHONG LI and NO PUNCHES COULD HURT HIM. Except, uh, the next punch, which knocks him on his ass. Whoops!

The funny thing to me about this clip is the Josh Coleman MacGuffin. You click on an “unexpected knockout” video featuring a guy with an hilariously oversized Jay Leno chin and he’s NOT the one getting knocked out? How do you miss this guy’s chin, seriously? I could throw a punch at him from Texas and probably land it.

In Celebration Of The Double Knockout

Written by Brandon Stroud / 03.21.13

double knockout

I love sports improbabilities.

Double knockouts don’t happen very often in mixed martial arts. It just doesn’t make sense. How are two guys going to hit each other with knockout blows at the exact point of intersection necessary to continue forward with deadly force, but still eat a strike and collapse backwards into beautiful failure symmetry? It’s hard enough to get it to happen once. A Polish DKO (I’m calling it that, I don’t care if it’s wrong) happened back in October, and I thought “welp, that’s something I’m not gonna see again for a while.” However, with only 21 days gone by in March, the month has seen two straight-up double knockouts and a third, pictured above, that came so, so close.

Here are all three, in their glory, with a double hat-tip to Cage Potato.

Make Tuesday Morning 100% More Violent With ’100 Knockouts Strike Back!’

Written by Brandon Stroud / 03.05.13

100 knockouts

Check out our third “100 Knockouts” special, featuring the sport’s wildest finishes from across the globe!

I will, thank you!

Inside the Cage’s third collection of 100 knockouts from basically everywhere they could find or imagine in the world of MMA is their best yet. The knockouts are great, sure, but my favorite part of the clip is how obscure and ridiculous some of the fighting leagues get. Smoker Fight! Short Fuse Promtions! Abu Dhabi Warriors! Just great stuff all around. Maybe the next 100 will feature a company so obscure Garfield couldn’t even mail Nermal to them.

Check out the video below, and enjoy almost 20 minutes of guys getting obliterated.

Written by Brandon Stroud / 01.10.13

I don’t know how far into 2012 we’re allowed to shared Best Whatevers Of 2012, but here are year’s best MMA and UFC knockouts. It barely counts as UFC, but I would’ve included a still of Tank Abbott’s book, because that kicked my ass harder than anything in MMA. (via Cage Potato)

3 Things You Should Never Do In An MMA Fight

Written by Brandon Stroud / 11.20.12

Vomit TKO

Okay, four things, if you count “don’t get a tattoo that says ‘RELENTLESS’ in a third grader’s print going down the back of your arm” as a thing.

As regular readers know, one of our favorite commenters (and people in the world) is Jessica, aka Lobster Mobster. She runs an MMA site called Leg Kick TKO and is sometimes gracious enough to send along a video or two to With Leather before she posts it. This morning, I woke up to a tip e-mail (cough withleather-tips@uproxx.com cough) featuring three very different videos with one thing in common: they are fantastic examples of what not to do if your job is “MMA Fighter”.

So, if you’re a Warrior In Training, own more than one Affliction shirt or just like watching people get royally f**ked up in every definition of the term, I present to you the Lobster Mobster-flavored MMA Walk of Shame videos of the day.
