Nick Diaz Isn’t Retiring, Wants A Rematch Against Georges St-Pierre

Written by Ashley Burns / 03.27.13

"Yo I said best of 9."

Hey, remember when Georges St-Pierre defeated Nick Diaz at UFC 158 by unanimous decision after he spent five rounds dropping Stockton’s finest on the ground and completely eliminating his ability to box? And remember how, after all of the horrible things that GSP and Diaz had been saying about each other leading up to the fight, GSP and Diaz were like, “Yeah, that was all fake and we really respect each other”? Oh, and remember how Diaz was also like, “I’m probably going to jail because I don’t pay taxes, so I’m going to retire”?

Well, go ahead and forget everything except for that first part, because Diaz isn’t retiring and his team is back to crapping all over GSP, because they think that St-Pierre either needs to forfeit his belt an cough up part of his PPV purse or Dana White and the UFC need to schedule a rematch. Oh Nick Diaz, you can’t ever leave us.

Nick Diaz Probably Retired So He Could Go To Prison

Written by Ashley Burns / 03.18.13

"But Ron Swanson said that income tax is illegal!"

On Saturday night, Georges St-Pierre and Nick Diaz, for the lack of a much better term, gave us a very disappointing finale to their courtship of craziness over the past several months. In case you were too cool to hang out with us for the UFC 158 live discussion, GSP successfully defended his UFC Welterweight Championship by forcing Diaz to the ground for a very underwhelming five rounds. And after the fight was over, both GSP and Diaz pulled the curtain back to reveal that their whole feud was fake, as St-Pierre has no “dark place” and Diaz just acted that way because certain people wanted him to.

That’s not to say, though, that Diaz doesn’t bring the crazy 24/7. Take, for instance, his post-fight interview, as the pride of Stockton once again claimed that he was retiring from mixed martial arts competition, while also admitting that he has bigger problems to focus on. Like going to federal prison for not paying his taxes. Ever.

With Leather Live Discussion: UFC 158

Written by Ashley Burns / 03.15.13

Hey, you guys want to know a secret? I don’t think that Georges St-Pierre and Nick Diaz like each other very much. In fact, I can’t remember the last time that I’ve been so excited for a UFC Pay-Per-View that features two guys who hate each other this much. I mean, Bigfoot Silva and Alistair Overeem didn’t care for each other, but GSP and Diaz just f*cking hate each other. Of course, we just have to keep our fingers crossed that this kind of pure, intense, seething hatred translates into an amazing fight that we’ll remember for years to come.

That said, I’m going to do something a little out-of-character for UFC 158 – live tomorrow night at 10 PM ET in Montreal – and I’m going to make a prediction for the main event. I predict that Diaz wins. I know, I’m a huge GSP fan, but Diaz has pushed this to a point where it’s all or nothing for him. I mean, hell, he just accused St-Pierre of using steroids! So unless Diaz is in this to not only win, but win convincingly, his whole career is on the line. Because if he loses, it’s going to be a long, long time before Dana White, or anyone for that matter, ever takes him seriously again. So yeah, it’s a far-fetched reason, but my pick is Diaz.

Meanwhile, I might be more excited about the Carlos Condit/Johny Hendricks fight, because if Hendricks and GSP win, then giddy up. If you think Diaz hates GSP, then try to imagine how Hendricks feels after getting the shaft for this title fight. That could be two “I f*cking hate your guts” fights in a row for GSP before he finally takes on Anderson Silva in the super fight that White promised us. I’m not saying that’s how it will all unfold, but it would be pretty awesome.

As always, join us for the prelims tomorrow night starting at 8 PM ET on FX, and bring the jokes that only you guys (and gal) bring to these live discussion that Pope Francis called, “The most inspirational Internet discussion of the last 30 years.” Be sure to check out our own Lobster Mobster’s fight primer, and for the fight card, I thought we’d celebrate the return of ring girls Chrissy Blair and Vanessa Hanson for the Ultimate Fighter 17 Finale.

Georges St-Pierre Thinks Chris Weidman Will Beat Anderson Silva

Written by Ashley Burns / 03.12.13

We’re only five days away from one of the most anticipated UFC Pay-Per-View events in recent history, as Georges St-Pierre will defend his UFC Welterweight Championship against Nick Diaz in the main event of UFC 158 Saturday night in Montreal. And as we’ve already discussed, these two gentlemen do not care for each other one bit, as St-Pierre believes that Diaz is disrespectful, while Diaz believes that St-Pierre is a spoiled, pampered brat MOTHER F*CKER I’M A MAN DON’T TALK SH*T TO ME I DON’T DESERVE TO BE BEAT DOWN A SOCCER MOM TALKED SH*T TO ME!

Sorry, I was momentarily possessed by the ghost of Nick Diaz’s phone conference. Anyway, St-Pierre is so focused on this fight that he took the opportunity to talk about someone else’s main event championship match at UFC 162, specifically Chris Weidman’s big shot at Anderson Silva.

Georges St-Pierre And Nick Diaz Are Probably Going To Kill Each Other At UFC 158

Written by Ashley Burns / 03.08.13

While I’m happy to have a Saturday away from this site’s fiendishly loyal UFC fans, I’d really like it if next Saturday could hurry up and get here already so we can watch UFC 158. I could probably be a little more patient had Georges St-Pierre and Nick Diaz not had their telephone conference yesterday and had it not been one of the greatest conversations between two men who are just 8 days away from attempting to kill each other for the UFC Welterweight Championship.

Now, some people question whether or not Diaz even deserves to be in the octagon with St-Pierre, as Diaz has only fought one time since defeating BJ Penn at UFC 137, and that was his unanimous decision loss to Carlos Condit at UFC 143 (followed by a nice suspension). However, others will argue that Diaz was supposed to fight St-Pierre at that event originally, so this is retribution to the fans or something like that.

Either way, the UFC is still billing this as the “fight we’ve all been waiting for” – even though that distinction arguably goes to St-Pierre (or Chris Weidman) and Anderson Silva – so the two men facing each other next Saturday night in Montreal are at least treating it like the biggest fight of their lives. And boy do these two dudes not like each other.
