UFC heavyweight champ Brock Lesnar isn’t doing so hot. After being misdiagnosed with mono–which led to the cancellation of his fight with Shane Carwin in UFC 106–Lesnar’s career seems to be in jeopardy as UFC boss Dana White tries to get Lesnar transferred to the Mayo Clinic, which I understand is totally different from the Miracle Whip clinic.
White tells us Lesnar — the UFC heavyweight champ — is “very, very sick” with some sort of intestinal disorder, although listening to White, it sounds a lot more serious than that. White says the condition will require “major surgery.” –TMZ
Camel Clutch Blog reports that Lesnar was in Canada when he collapsed. And I’m sure that other UFC fighters are upset that Lesnar is getting his shot at the Mayo Clinic so much faster than the guys that paid their dues. It’s not a caste system, fellas. I was talking about the pecking order in UFC, not Canadian health care. That actually is a caste system.
People act like being a ring girl is easy, as if all you do is walk around the ring with a big sign with a number on it. It’s hard, yo. And then when that ring becomes an octagon, it’s even harder. I mean, there’s like twice as many corners! It’s amazing that they can make that trip around the mat wearing nothing but a bikini. I couldn’t do it without a packed lunch and an overnight bag. via.
Kimbo Slice made his highly-anticipated UFC debut last night against the not-so-fit looking Roy Nelson, and it went about as well as the people that know said it would: Nelson got him on the ground and kept punching him in the face until the ref stopped it.
I was a bit disappointed in Slice. I think he would have had a shot here if he came out [for the second round] more explosive. He overwhelmed Nelson twice with punches and probably could have won if he was more aggressive. As I said before, it almost looked as if Slice was mentally defeated once they went to the ground. –Eric Gargiulo.
UFC president Dana White reportedly compared Nelson’s punching power to that of his own daughter. But to be fair, Nelson probably has better table manners and a vocabulary less becoming of an American sailor. I mean, “she’s coming about?” Who the hell talks like that? Oh, watch the full fight after the jump. Read the rest of this entry »
Arguably the most anticipated MMA fight to happen on free TV will air tonight when Elite XC alum Kimbo Slice takes on former International Fight League champ Roy Nelson in the feature bout on Spike TV’s “The Ultimate Fighter.”
The Slice-Nelson fight was taped several weeks ago. There have been conflicting spoilers that indicate that Kimbo both wins and loses, so it really anyone’s guess.
Nelson may look like a fat truck driver, but he is no joke. Unlike many heavyweights, Nelson’s strength is his ground game.[..]This is probably the last guy you want to fight if you are Kimbo Slice. Unfortunately for Kimbo fans, Slice is a goner if this thing goes to the ground.–Eric Gargiulo.
The show airs at 10 PM Eastern AND Pacific time, but you’re much more “in” if you watch it on Pacific time, preferably while snorting about $200-worth of cocaine. Because cocaine turns boring, slovenly people into rock stars in the blink of an eye. But then, so does every reality show on E!, from what I can tell.

I like to pretend that I know more about MMA than I actually do, but since I didn’t watch the premeire of the 10th cycle of “The Ultimate Fighter,” here’s some opinion from around the blogosphere from a few friends that did.
My first thought always watching new seasons of The Ultimate Fighter is how many guys show up out of shape….Usually one or two guys show up physically unprepared, yet it looks like half the cast this season didn”t look in shape to fight. –Eric Gargiulo, Camel Clutch Blog.
As we saw in the preview, Kimbo Slice walks in after everybody else, and after Dana White gave him an introduction. Kimbo seems to not want to draw attention to himself, while Roy Nelson seems disappointed that he is not the biggest name in the room. –Maggie Hendricks, Cage Writer.
The tenth season also boasts three former NFL players trying to make their way in mixed martial arts. Though calling Matt Mitrione and Wes Shivers former NFLers is putting it generously. Mitrione, a former Purdue defensive tackle, got nine games with the New York Giants in 2002. Shivers, a 7th-round draft pick by the Titans, enjoyed a three-game NFL career with Atlanta. –TheBaker, Rumors & Rants.
The unquestionable highlight of the night was watching the feature bout between Abe Wagner and John Madsen. Madsen looked like one of the dudes that wasn’t in shape (whereas Wagner looked like he actually was), but Madsen’s physique seemed to improve as their match went on, as Madsen wasn’t the guy with the busted-open forehead. Honest Abe would get stitched up and finish the two-round bout and lose a unanimous decision. Video’s after the jump if you’re one of the people that didn’t eat breakfast this morning.
