At Least Tyson Chandler Can Laugh About It

Written by Ashley Burns / 05.03.12

For the first time in three years, Brooklyn Nets Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard failed to win the NBA’s Defensive Player of the Year Award, which I am just going to assume he’s blaming on Stan Van Gundy. Instead, this year’s honor went to New York Knicks center Tyson Chandler, because when you think of the Knicks, you think of defense.

And that’s the kind of easy joke that so many people were ready to make, before Chandler beat us all to the punch and made the joke himself.

That’s some good comedy right there, namely because the Knicks played less-than-stellar defense this season, as evidenced by their inability to play better than the 7 seed and/or stop the Miami Heat from pummeling them into the dirt in the playoffs.

But to be fair, the Heat actually ranked lower than the Knicks in team defense this season, while the Knicks led the NBA in jackasses who punched glass.

Fan hit in head by basketball while texting

>=(

Basketball can be a divisive game, but from Larry Brown Sports comes a story we can all enjoy — a guy spends thousands of dollars on front row seats to Wednesdays Knicks/Nets game in New Jersey, decides he’d rather text than pay attention to what’s happening on the court and catches a Tyson Chandler pass to the face.

ROFLMNBAO: Kobe’s Black Mask, 2012-2012

Written by Ashley Burns / 03.08.12

With the NBA trade deadline just 7 days away, all of the media’s focus is on the big market teams and their needs, which begs the question – which chump teams are gonna get fleeced? The quick answer: probably none. The Orlando Magic currently have the 5th best record in the entire league, which absolutely baffles me after watching them stand still and take it hard against the 4-win Charlotte Bobcats the other night, but then that’s how the wonderful world of sports works. So they’re most likely not trading Dwight Howard, and every other team is stuck waiting to see what happens with that to make their own moves. Classic log jam, folks.

Common sense says that Orlando won’t get a Denver Nuggets-type haul at the deadline, so that means the Magic instead want to move some of their crap for another team’s lesser crap. Meanwhile, Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers sure could use some help, as could pretty much any team that isn’t the Chicago Bulls, Oklahoma City Thunder, San Antonio Spurs or Miami Heat. Face it, your team is pretty much screwed.

Warning: This Video Might Make You Like The New York Knicks

Written by Brandon Stroud / 01.18.12

carmelo-anthony-knicks-kids-reportersIt is pretty easy to hate

1. The New York Knicks
2. Justin Bieber
3. Hipster children
4. Precocious novelty kid interviews that aren’t Wonder Showzen’s Beat Kids

… but somehow when you put them all together, you get this adorable video of ‘Knicks Kid Reporters’ Ryan and Jaylah asking the team the most unnecessary questions of all time (like “how do you spell super-fradja-cadja-listic”) and eventually singing Justin Bieber’s “Baby”. There’s something really reassuring about getting to see Sports Guys act like regular people in a way other than “hey MTV, step in here and look at my bed, it has tank treads”, and Wayfarers and mohawks aside, it’s reassuring to see kids being kids on the Internet without hurting themselves, crying about something stupid or lip-syncing Nicki Minaj songs.

I just realized I’m wearing pajama pants and a Tennessee Smokies t-shirt. That six-year old is crushing me. Ah well, at least there isn’t a video on every sports blog of me singing “Baby”.
