Mr Met

As the Texas Rangers prepare for tonight’s Game 1 action of the American League Championship Series against the New York Yankess, Rangers right fielder Jeff Francoeur is staying loose by taking swings at his previous team, the New York Mets. With tongue firmly planted in cheek, Frenchy complimented and thanked the Mets management, and when asked about playing the Yankees, Frenchy said, “I always wanted to know what it was like to play meaningful baseball in New York and I’m going to have the opportunity.” I checked down to the first base umpire and he confirmed – that’s a burn.

Francouer, who was traded to the Rangers late in the season, is also raising some eyebrows with his follow-up comment: “I’m happy in this role here. There’s a lot of blue-collar types here. They’re about baseball and winning.” Some message board Mets warriors have taken those words as a slight against the Mets’ Latin American players, but that’s just silly. If that were the case, the Mexican drug cartels that have taken over Texas would be shooting up his house right now.
