ON JEWS, THE MEDIA, AND THE NBA
01.11.07We all remember Elie Seckbach, right? He became a bit of an Internet sensation after I did a post (yes, With Leather was the first blog to post Elie video, and yes, I'm proud of myself) with his Hanukkah video. To jog your memory, here he is again in his most recent video:
Well, this may come as a surprise to you, but apparently not all Jews are diminutive, dorky tools. And FreeDarko, as a dual beacon of coolness and Jewiness, hosted a roundtable about Seckbach and the perception of Jews by NBA players. Along with FD stalwarts Bethlehem Shoals and Dr. LawyerIndianChief, D.C. Sports Bog's Dan Steinberg and Eli Horowitz of McSweeney's joined the fun to see if Seckbach's access to NBA players is ultimately good or bad for the perception of Jews, or some philosophically gray area.
It's a pretty cool read, and I highly recommend it. I did all sorts of thinking I wasn't prepared to do. Like, I always thought of Jews as white people who didn't get to have Christmas because they killed Jesus. Apparently there's a lot more to it than that.
