Dennis Rodman And The Pope In NBA Jam Is Taiwan Animation’s Masterpiece

Written by Brandon Stroud / 03.14.13

This is it. They’re never going to top this one. Taiwan Animation covered Dennis Rodman’s trip to the Vatican with a game of NBA Jam, pitting Rodman and the Pope against evil lawyers, dunking altar boys and RICHARD SIMMONS (to represent gay people). At one point, Simmons gets “on fire” and Rodman puts him out with a hose.

Dude. Dude. This is it. God (and The Pope) bless you, Next Media Animation.

NASCAR Fans Vs. Taiwan Animation, A Battle For The Ages

Written by Brandon Stroud / 02.26.13

Next Media Animation’s “Taiwan Animation” of the Daytona crash has all the absurdity and hyperbole you’d expect — fans being killed and turned into cheering ghosts, all the cars being Toyota Corollas because they don’t have a stock car stock animation, NASCAR literally erasing the video from YouTube — but the best part is easily the fact that nobody at NMA thought, “hey, it’s probably a bad idea to ask NASCAR fans what they think of this insulting, wacky parody video made by Asians.”

From the YouTube description:

As every NASCAR fan knows, you come for the crashes and stay for the races. But are NASCAR officials taking fan safety seriously enough?

NASCAR fans are stoic. Talk to any fan and they will admit to accepting some level of risk when watching the races live. Furthermore, the fine print on the back of admissions tickets would seem to absolve race officials of liability if fans are injured.

But despite the risks, are NASCAR officials doing enough to ensure no fan is ever hurt? Leave your thoughts in the comments.

Predictably, NASCAR fans left their thoughts.

Taiwan Presents Super Bowl XLVII

Written by Brandon Stroud / 01.24.13

Taiwan Animation takes on Super Bowl XLVII, because of course they do. Honestly, of all the weird things they’ve done, their version of Alex Smith getting a concussion is probably the funniest ever. (via NMA)

Yep, Taiwan Animation Weighed In On The Manti Te’o Girlfriend Hoax

Written by Brandon Stroud / 01.17.13

Manti Te'o Taiwan AnimationNew career goal: get name-dropped in a Taiwan Animation video.

With the exception of WWE doing a Lennay Kekua/Little Jimmy joke on Monday, the most predictable thing to come from the reaction to Deadspin’s Manti Te’o I LOVE MUH DEAD GIRLFRIEND story is the response from Next Media Animation. Sometimes life lobs a ball in their direction, and it’s their job to do a bunch of peyote and slam it home. They don’t disappoint here, covering Te’o's troubles with butt-chugging leprechauns, in-game mech attacks and what may or may not be a necrophilia joke.

Thanks for doing what you do, Taiwan. I’d be down for an entire series of these, especially if they involve more scenes of fictional characters pouring whisky up this poor guy’s butthole.

Taiwan Animation’s Take On Mike D’Antoni Is Pretty Perfect

Written by Brandon Stroud / 11.14.12

I considered writing my normal wordy intro paragraph about how Taiwan Animation is the weirdest thing in the world, citing examples from the stories we’ve covered and wondering how two Taiwanese ladies with 3rd grade computer animation skills could get to the heart of a story better than a nation of aged sports reporters, but I’ll let this image do all that for me:

Taiwan Animation Mike D'Antoni

Additional highlights, if you aren’t already watching, include:

- Phil Jackson as the zen, levitating version of The Mandarin from ‘Iron Man’
- A swinging jazz soundtrack
- The Lakers having fruit thrown at them because they’re trying to play basketball with walkers (try to figure out which one’s supposed to be Steve Nash!)
- Slow motion fruit explosions
- Player-on-fan violence

They really got their money’s worth out of that “bus backing up” noise.
