Table Tennis Surprise Really Lives Up To Its Name

Written by Brandon Stroud / 02.21.13

I can’t decide what my favorite part of TABLE TENNIS SURPRISE is — the amazing return shot, the guy who loses’ stunned reaction and awed sportsmanship, or the fact that it sounds like the worst side dish ever. “Here honey, we’re having pot roast, green beans and Table Tennis Surprise.” (via NESN)

Programming Note: Biggest-ever thank you to Burnsy, Danger Guerrero and Maske for holding down the fort yesterday. My return from New Orleans went from “I’ll work in the morning and then leave” to “I’ll leave super early because the Megabus says they have WiFi WHOOPS THE MEGABUS IS LYING, ENJOY 12 HOURS OF TRYING TO WRITE WRESTLING JOKES ON YOUR PHONE” and it delayed the Raw report. That’s coming today. Sorry for any inconvenience. I’ll be happy to send you a refund.

3 Things You Should Never Do In An MMA Fight

Written by Brandon Stroud / 11.20.12

Vomit TKO

Okay, four things, if you count “don’t get a tattoo that says ‘RELENTLESS’ in a third grader’s print going down the back of your arm” as a thing.

As regular readers know, one of our favorite commenters (and people in the world) is Jessica, aka Lobster Mobster. She runs an MMA site called Leg Kick TKO and is sometimes gracious enough to send along a video or two to With Leather before she posts it. This morning, I woke up to a tip e-mail (cough withleather-tips@uproxx.com cough) featuring three very different videos with one thing in common: they are fantastic examples of what not to do if your job is “MMA Fighter”.

So, if you’re a Warrior In Training, own more than one Affliction shirt or just like watching people get royally f**ked up in every definition of the term, I present to you the Lobster Mobster-flavored MMA Walk of Shame videos of the day.

Orlando Solar Bears Back-up Goalie Goes Full ‘Glee’ On Opposing Fans

Written by Brandon Stroud / 11.07.12

Orlando Sun Bears

I’ve seen a lot of bad sportsmanship in my day, but nothing that gave a black eye to Zombie Nation’s ‘Kernkraft 400′. At least, not until today.

After losing to the Gwinnett Gladiators on November 1, 2012, the backup goalie shows us the teams true colors by throwing Gatorade on the Gladiators fans. Stay Classy Orlando.

Of course, the liquid being thrown around looks a lot like water, but that’s been addressed via a well-placed conversation in the video’s comments section:

Looks like water to me.

That’s what we thought it was at first, but water doesn’t burn when it hits your eyes.

So what’s the proper response to that? “Stay classy, guys who are trying to escalate a water splashing into assault”?

Video of the VICIOUS GATORADING is below.

The SEC Sure Seems Fun Right Now

Written by Ashley Burns / 07.03.12

Texas A&M and Missouri are currently in their honeymoon period before they begin playing in the new and even more improved SEC, and things are already to an, um, interesting start. First, there was this little tidbit about someone’s photoshop tribute to the Missouri Tigers and the Confederacy, which had Mizzou athletics in a little bit of an uproar with my buddy @ParadigmShift35. But then the Aggies decided to make things really awkward, like whenever I take off my pants at Disney.

I don’t really have much to say about the video after the jump, because no description I can write for it will do it justice. It’s almost like they’re already rolling over and shouting, “As long as the championship stays in the conference!” Because that’s an awesome battle cry.

As Snarky As We Get, Don’t Forget That Sportsmanship Is Awesome

Written by Brandon Stroud / 06.05.12

megan_vogel_sportsmanshipAfter years of the ‘Florida Or Ohio?’ game making criminals and ridiculous people easy to geographically identify, it looks like the people of Ohio are getting it together — on the heels of the most inspiring Ohio elementary school field day of all time comes the story of West Liberty-Salem High junior Meghan Vogel, a state champion in the 1,600 meters who turned her burned-out 3,200 meters performance into the best acts of sportsmanship you’re likely to see.

Vogel was last, the 15th runner on the track, with about 200 meters to go when she noticed the runner directly in front of her, Arden McMath of Arlington, was struggling.

McMath, a sophomore, fell to the track, got up and began to fall again when Vogel picked her up and carried McMath across the finish line, making sure to keep McMath ahead of her.

“I don’t really remember much about it,” Vogel said. “It was kind of a blur. I just remember picking her up and trying not to injure her as I crossed the line. She deserved to be in front of me.” (via USA Today)

Video of the finish is below. Keep it up, Ohio.
