Bernie Williams Isn’t Going To Take It

Written by Brandon Stroud / 05.02.11

NO, THEY AINT GONNA TAKE IT80s rockers-turned-guys who miss being 80s rockers Twister Sister played a benefit concert New York City on Friday night, and former New York Yankees centerfielder Bernie Williams joined them onstage, holding a guitar and looking like so much Hootie, for a rendition of their hit “We’re Not Gonna Take It.” I’m sure Bernie’s happy to be in front of a cheering crowd again, and at 3:38, the length of “We’re Not Gonna Take It” is the longest Williams has spent alongside old men in makeup since his 16-year stint with the New York Yankees.

Now all I can imagine is Mark Metcalf staring down a fat, 10-year old Joba Chamberlain, screaming “WHATTA YOU WANNA DO WITH YOURRR LIFFEEEE.”

Musical Guest: Lover Of Ketchup

Written by JOSH Z / 05.24.10

Today is Bob Dylan’s 69th birthday, so it seemed appropriate to reprise our “Special Musical Guest” segment with a Dylan cover. And then I found this guy, who goes by Badly Bruised Bob on YouTube, playing “The Times They Are a-Changin’.” On accordion. And I can’t explain the bottle of ketchup, which seems to be sitting on the corner of his bed. Rather, it seems like the ketchup bottle is explaining something to us. Read the rest of this entry »

Musical Guest: Sean Og

We’re sort of going off the reservation here, as Sean Og’s song, “I Still Love You Without My Car” isn’t exactly a cover, but the video has dogs dressed as people with people hands. Unless Sean’s band is made up of dog-people, this is all just a big tease. Oh, and the song is terrible. Not quite “so bad it’s awesome” territory, but in the neighborhood. Plus, dude is from Ireland. That helps. Visit his website or download his album. Read the rest of this entry »

Musical Guest: 6th-Grader Greyson Michael

This is, I’m assuming, tween and piano maven Greyson Michael, which sounds backwards to me, but I’m pretty sure that’s right. Here he is at the Edmund Middle School Sixth Grade Festival performing Lady Gaga’s “Paparazzi,” which, seriously, might be the only Gaga song that I don’t like. Don’t judge me. And if everyone says that Betty White killed it on SNL, this little Justin Bieber replica certainly does as well. Don’t look up Greyson, that blonde in the back row wants you to tickle her ivories. I’d wait a couple years for that. Well…at least nine months. Video’s after the jump.

Thanks for checking us out today. Come back tomorrow. We’ll be here. Read the rest of this entry »

Musical Guest: On The Rocks

Written by JOSH Z / 05.04.10

We leave you for the day with this cover of Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance,” performed somewhat flamboyantly by the University of Oregon’s all-male a cappella group, On The Rocks. Yeah, it’s a bit fabulous, relative to our typical fare, and it’s about 3 minutes too long, but it’s still incredibly well-sung. Put it on and go pay some bills or something. We’ll be here tomorrow.

SPECIAL MUSICAL GUEST: LEONARD NIMOY

Written by JOSH Z / 03.15.10

We usually save this space for covers of already popular tunes, but this performance deserves an exception as much as any; it’s Star Trek alumnus Leonard Nimoy singing “The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins,” and for the Tolkien-uninitiated, that’s not an anotomically-correct sex toy. Baggins is the protagonist from The Hobbit, the book that chronologically preceeded the Lord of the Rings trilogy. This video was taped as part of a variety TV show that originally aired in 1967. As for the song itself, yeah, it kinda blows. But hey, Leonard Nimoy!
