Wednesday Dunk Battle: Young Vs. Bowser Vs. Bryant Vs. Robinson

Written by Brandon Stroud / 02.06.13

Kobe Bryant dunks on Kris Humphries

You know the drill. Every Wednesday we collect four notable slam dunks from the last seven days of basketball and pit them against one another in the WEDNESDAY DUNK BATTLE. You watch the dunks, then scroll to the bottom and vote for your favorite. The winner is named the scientifically, democratically-decided Dunk Of The Week, which I assume wins them fame and prizes.

This week’s dunks:

1. Nick Young’s 360 dunk for the mild enjoyment of Sixers fans.
2. Pacific University’s awesomely-named Dustin Bowser catches a ball off the glass and sends his defender tumbling into a wall.
3. Kobe Bryant dunks on the Nets, but Kris Humphries is there, so we’ll just say he specifically dunked on Kris Humphries, because f**k Kris Humphries
4. Nate Robinson’s fast-forward dunk on the Bucks.

Please consult the following clips and make your decision below.

Written by Brandon Stroud / 01.30.13

Dwight Howard misses dunk

You know how this works.

In order to further Slam Dunk Analysis sciences, we’re asking you, the With Leather community, to compare four of the week’s best dunks and tell us which was the most … uh, slam dunk. We’re still working on the phrasing. Anyway, watch these four dunk clips and please, take a moment to vote in the handy poll included at the bottom.

Your dunks for this week:

1. James Harden’s tomahawk slam on the Utah Jazz.
2. Carlos Boozer dunks, gets an amazing call, gets an even better reaction from Taj Gibson.
3. Jeff Green dunks on Chris Bosh, specifically.
4. Dwight Howard sucks at basketball.

Written by Brandon Stroud / 01.23.13

Kevin Durant Wednesday dunk battle

Ladies and gentlemen, it’s the return of the Wednesday Dunk Battle, the Internet’s only democratic, scientific determination of slam dunk effectiveness in relation to its peers!

If you’ve never participated in a Wednesday Dunk Battle, now’s the time to start. All you have to do is watch four slam dunk videos (the best kind of videos, fact) and decide which dunk is the most slam-dunkingest in the included poll. The winner will receive two prizes: (1) great admiration from the readership of a comedy sports blog, (2) a continued life of being a millionaire.

This week’s dunks are:

1. Kevin Durant dunking on the Los Angeles Clippers so hard their families felt it
2. Last Thursday’s LeBron James effort that made Kobe Bryant’s face do this emoticon – :O
3. Damian Lillard turning Nene from the Washington Wizards into Nene from the Real Housewives
4. Alonzo Gee making Kevin Garnett something something Honey Nut Cheerios

Please watch each clip carefully, then vote!

My New Favorite Thing: NBA Mascots That Should Never Dunk

Written by Brandon Stroud / 01.11.13

Conan mascots that should never dunk

If you’ve ever wanted to see a bear try to slam dunk while being attacked by a gang of sharks, now’s your chance.

Conan O’Brien put together a dunk contest of mascots that should never dunk, and it’s … almost majestic. The aforementioned bear takes on a giant thing of non-dairy creamer, the Olive Garden never-ending pasta bowl, a CD discount bin, and more. I won’t spoil it for you, but one of them actually connects on a dunk. It’s my new favorite thing, and I wish it’d gone on for 90 minutes.

Video is below.

CP3 Dunked, But His Son Is Pretty Sure It Didn’t Happen

Written by Brandon Stroud / 12.20.12

Here’s a video of Chris Paul throwing down a two-handed dunk. The Mayan apocalypse might actually be upon us.

The best part of the clip is that his own son didn’t believe it happened. Hold on to your butts, because this is the most adorable thing you’re going to read today. From Kevin Arnovitz on Twitter, by way of The Basketball Jones:

Chris Paul dunked

Well, technically he’s right. Maybe we should bring in Little Chris as a special guest analyst for next week’s Wednesday Dunk Battle. You know, assuming we can convince him between now and then that this is a Legitimate Dunk, and that the world doesn’t end tomorrow.

If that doesn’t count, we can always use CP3 dunking on Dwight Howard from a few years back, because reasons:

Wednesday Dunk Battle: Which Slam Dunk Dunked The Most Slams

Written by Brandon Stroud / 12.19.12

Gerald Henderson dunk

One day I’ll get that headline to work.

Last Wednesday, With Leather dunk scientists decided that Cleveland’s Anderson Varejao faking out Dwight Howard and dunking on the rest of the Actual Lakers was the most slam dunkingest slam dunk of the week. While we struggle to properly conjugate “slam dunk,” we’ve gathered a new crop of HOT DUNKZ and ask you, the reader, to decide which one is the most slam and/or dunk.

Dunk clips and a handy selection box for your dunk of choice are included after the jump. Please take your time with these and consider which is best, because the Internet desperately needs science.

This week’s choices are:

1. Blake Griffin catching an alley-oop off the glass, because every dunk battle needs Blake Griffin in it doing something ridiculous
2. Gerald Henderson throwing down a monster dunk on Dwight Howard, because every dunk battle needs somebody making Dwight Howard look bad.
3. Danilo Gallinari alley-ooping the ball to himself against the Memphis Grizzlies.
4. Cal State San Marcos’ Daniel Redmond catching a half court alley-oop
