Macklemore And Detlef Schrempf Vs. Oklahoma City. Who Ya Got?

Written by Brandon Stroud / 05.14.13

Macklemore Seattle

I’m not trying to write this much about Macklemore, stories just keep happening. The guy is set to headline the Preakness with Pitbull this weekend and hung out onstage with the Oregon Duck LAST weekend. In two weekends he’ll be dating Kate Upton and winning a Most Beautiful Surfing Dog contest or whatever and we’ll never be rid of him.

Anyway, the reason we’re talking about him today is because he’s a loyal resident of Seattle, Washington, and as such, that makes him disdainful of the fine men and women of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Something about a pro basketball team being torn away moments before they became championship contenders, who can say for sure? So what happens when the NEW Sonics try to use the hit song of a guy who loves the OLD Sonics as their pre-game hype music?

From the creativity magicians at UNDRCRWN comes the REIGN UMBRELLA, an umbrella in the style of Seattle Supersonics great Shawn Kemp that protects you from rain, and, I’m assuming, reign. You can order it here, and by “can” I mean “should definitely.” (via That NBA Lottery Pick)

Ex-NBA Prospect Robert Swift’s Home Would Have Been Awful On MTV Cribs

Written by Ashley Burns / 03.06.13

Robert Swift was drafted 12th overall by the Seattle Supersonics in 2004, and, at the time, taking Swift straight out of high school seemed like a solid move, because the 2004 NBA Draft mostly sucked. Unfortunately, Swift’s career became a prime example of why the NBA wanted kids to spend at least a year in college, and it seems that Swift may have recently been reflecting on his decision to turn pro at 18 as a huge mistake.

Swift’s Washington mansion had been in foreclosure since last year, and a couple eventually purchased it at a fraction of the original price, but there was one notable problem with their desire to actually live in it – Swift refused to leave. Now, the once-promising center has finally left, and the couple faces a new problem – the mansion is a complete sh*thole. Literally.

Reddit Users Really Love The L.A. Lakers

Written by Ashley Burns / 12.04.12

Over on Reddit, or the front page of the Internet as those kids have taken to calling it, the volume of sports content has been increasing lately, which is great because what we all need is more forums through which to debate sports. But it also means that fans of specific teams now have a chance to connect on arguably the most popular site on the web, and that’s cool, because it beats going to sporting events and actually interacting with real people. That’s not sarcasm, by the way.

Reddit user “pdxbass” decided to find out just how much clout a specific sports league’s fans have on the site, and hold on to your pants, because Los Angeles Lakers fans run the NBA world. Sorry, I tried to make it as suspenseful as I could, but it’s like asking people to predict what teenage boys liked more between a piece of celery and Kate Upton’s breasts.

Fortunately, we don’t need to talk just about the Lakers, because pdxbass made a large graph that shows us just how popular each team is, and it provides a pretty interesting breakdown.

Are The Hornets Moving To Seattle?

Written by Ashley Burns / 12.14.10

Wow, what a day for speculation in the NBA! First some black-and-white airbrush Brooklyn logos show up and now the city of New Orleans may be in danger of losing the Hornets franchise to those troublemakers up in Seattle. After the league’s recent purchase of the Hornets, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer coincidentally sold $1.4 billion worth of stock and he’s been very open about his desire to return a NBA franchise to the Emerald City.

Now I know what you’re thinking – “Burnsy, aren’t your abs naturally sculpted and isn’t it pretty common for a billionaire to just up and sell $1.4 billion worth of stock?” And to be honest, I read the figure “$1.4 billion” and lost control of my bowels, blacked out and woke up in a puddle of my own tears. Regardless, Seattle is making a push to replace the void left by the Sonics’ move to Oklahoma City after David Stern left a flaming bag of dog poop on the entire city’s doorstep.

Per the Seattle Post-Intelligencer
