SCOTT VAN PELT GOT VAN PRANKED…ZING?

Scott Van Pelt might be my favorite SportsCenter anchor, which is a lot like a 9-year-old picking out his favorite vegetable (and probably just as mature). But it was still humorous to see him endure a prank call from someone pretending to be the recently-cut running back Brian Westbrook. But in These Trying Economic Times, who’s willing to pull off such colossal (if not entirely funny) pwnage for free? Better question: Why does SportsCenter even take incoming phone calls? The same thing happened to Dan Patrick in 2003. You’d think they’d just let those roll over to voicemail. Read the rest of this entry »

SCOTT VAN PELT WILL BE IN TIGER WOODS 10

Written by JOSH Z / 06.15.09

ESPN personality Scott Van Pelt will be featured in Electronic Arts’ latest installment of the Tiger Woods video game series. Well, just his voice, actually. And EA has the new commercials to showcase that. Not to sound gay, but if Scott Van Pelt wanted me to kill somebody, I would do it. Let that be a lesson to you other clowns at ESPN that don’t return email.

ESPN DID OKAY THIS TIME

Written by Matt / 11.12.08

Last month, I was admittedly excited for ESPN’s new series of webisodes featuring Kenny Mayne, wittily dubbed Mayne Street.  Yesterday, the first episode debuted on ESPN.com (the video above is an abbreviated version), and the early are returns are not bad.  Not bad at all.

Of course, the end result makes me wonder why they just don’t do every SportsCenter with Van Pelt and Mayne, who (along with Neil Everett) comprise the majority (entirety?) of ESPN anchors that shouldn’t be buried alive in wet concrete.  So bravo, ESPN.  Golf clapping for you.  Now don’t let the quality slip, or you can count on hearing about it.

IT’S FUNNY BECAUSE THE MUSTACHES ARE FAKE

Written by Matt / 07.09.08

Yesterday, I didn't get a chance to write about the American Mustache Institute's endorsement of Jason Giambi for the final spot on the All-Star roster.  And that worked out well for me, because now instead of writing a bunch of words about it I can just show the SportsCenter clip that addressed it.

I do say, those Neil Everett and Scott Van Pelt chaps are quite droll!  Why, they're trusted newsmen wearing false whiskers!  How whimsically amusing!  Perhaps that Ed Sullivan fellow should have them on as guests!
