COP WANTED TO SHOOT PEOPLE – UPDATED

UPDATE: ESPN is reporting that Powell has resigned. Hey, the Bengals could always use another cornerback.

In the wake of this whole Ryan Moats thing, we’ve seen an apology from Officer Robert Powell that only made him look like the sociopath that most of us assumed he was, anyway. And now even the wife of former Cowboys linebacker Zach Thomas has come forward and said that she filed a complaint against Powell after a traffic violation in 2007. From the Dallas Morning News:

The Thomases went public with their story after recognizing Powell on a video that shows him detaining Houston Texans running back Ryan Moats outside a hospital this month while Moats’ mother-in-law was dying inside.

In addition to a ticket for the illegal U-turn, Powell wrote Thomas four other tickets. They were for failure to show proof of insurance, running a red light, improper address on her driver’s license and not having a registration sticker on the windshield.

TEXAS COPS ARE PRICKS – UPDATED

UPDATE: MyFOX Houston found the dashcam footage from the incident. It’s after the jump.

Texans running back Ryan Moats was obstructed from entering a Plano-area hospital last week after Plano police pulled him over in the ER parking lot for running a red light. When Moats attempted to explain that he, his wife, and another woman were there to see Moats’ dying mother-in-law, Officer Robert Powell of the Dallas Police Department refused to let him do so. From WFAA:

Dashcam video from the Dallas officer’s patrol car captured the incident.

“Get in there,” Officer Powell yelled out to Tamishia Moats, Ryan’s wife, as she exited the car. “Let me see your hands. Get in there. Put your hands on the car.”

“Excuse me, my mom is dying,” Moats said.

Moats and the other woman ignored Officer Powell’s commands and rushed inside the hospital to see her mother.

Even after pleas from nurses at the hospital and another police officer, Officer Powell would not relent. Read the rest of this entry »
