Great Moments In Sports Guys Doing The Worm For No Reason

Written by Brandon Stroud / 04.26.12

Étienne Brodeur of the Chicoutimi Saguenéens is either a random group of meaningless letters or a Quebec Major Junior Hockey League who is not afraid to celebrate his playoff game-winning goal against the Saint John Sea Dogs with a 1980s breakdancing centerpiece.

The moment (informally known as “the worm on ice”) comes to us from our friends at Buzzing The Net, and while he’s not technically doing The Worm — it’s more of a dive, bounce and flop situation than a purposeful worming — it brings to mind some of the other great Worm-centric moments in sports, ALL OF WHICH YOU WILL SEE RIGHT NOW.

Skill Is Hereditary: Reid Ryan Does The Worm

Written by Brandon Stroud / 02.09.12

From the official Round Rock Express Facebook page:

Have you seen Express Founder and CEO, Reid Ryan, busting out ‘The Worm’ at a Father-Daughter dance off? He’s got some serious moves…

nolan-ryan-reid-ryan-wormI hadn’t, but I’m glad I did.

You may remember Reid Ryan as a 17th-round draft pick for the Texas Rangers (477th overall!) or as the son of legendary Hall of Fame pitcher Nolan, who will probably never be videotaped breakdancing. The Ryans run the Rangers AAA-affiliate Express here in central Texas, and having gone to a bunch of games I can say we’re lucky this video didn’t involve more t-shirt cannons and dogs dressed as train conductors.

Hell, I’d like to see someone from the San Antonio Missions try to pop and lock like that.

Will Ferrell Does NBA Player Intros, Reveals Carlos Boozer Still Lives With His Mother

Dirk Nowitzki may have competition for best NBA announcer.

Comedian Will Ferrell handled player introduction duties during last night’s New Orleans Hornets versus Chicago Bulls game, and it didn’t disappoint. I’d say it ranks somewhere between his Ric Flair-inspired character on ‘Eastbound & Down’ and posing as a Venezuelan to pitch for the Round Rock Express as the funniest Will Ferrell sports moment ever.

Highlights include Derrick Rose loving The Notebook, Luol Deng collecting rare birds (and having a pet dolphin named “Chachi”) and Gustavo Ayon being loved despite not speaking “a lick of English”. I know I said this about Dirk Nowitzki, but Will Ferrell should just announce everything.

Video of the introductions is after the jump.

No Longer Looking Forward to the Weekend

Written by Brandon Stroud / 06.17.11

rebecca black is so excitedYou know a meme has outstayed its welcome when Minor League Baseball teams start using it for promotion. Rebecca Black’s co-starring role in Katy Perry’s “Last Friday Night” video has become a professional shadow-seeing groundhog, and we’re suffering through six more weeks of her — watch in abject horror as representatives of the Round Rock Express (my local Triple-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers) do a parody of “Friday” to get you excited about fireworks.

By the way, if you’re watching the video, he’s saying “Bud fireworks”, not “butt fireworks”. It’s pretty sad when the man-sized dog in a conductor’s outfit is the least humiliated person in your video. Do I even need something to get me excited about fireworks? They’re FIREWORKS. What’s next, backflipping ninja fail Epic Fail afro wig Tuesday? If I go to the game on Sunday afternoon, will the first 2,500 fans receive a free Lemon Party team photo? Uh, actually, pretty sure I’m not going to that Sunday game.
