The Best (And Mostly Depressing) Of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s Son’s AMA On Reddit

Written by Ashley Burns / 05.17.13

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar has been a busy man as of late, from penning his stinging critiques of HBO’s hit series Girls to teaching the WNBA newest star, Brittney Griner, how to perfect the skyhook shot. So it makes sense that he might not have as much time to spend with his kids as he’d like, and they’re also adults now, so they should probably stop being so damned clingy.

I kid, of course, as I don’t know much about Kareem’s family life, other than he had three children with his first wife and then another two after that. Fortunately, the youngest Abdul-Jabbar son, Adam*, had some time to share with us a new perspective on growing up as the son of one of the NBA’s most iconic big men of all-time, as well as a few other things that he’s picked up along the way, in an “Ask Me Anything” session on Reddit last weekend.

The Robert Morris Wikipedia Page Is Finally Awesome

Written by Brandon Stroud / 03.20.13

In case you haven’t heard, 8th-seed Robert Morris University knocked off the defending national champion Kentucky Wildcats, 59-57, in the first round of the National Invitational Tournament. No, seriously. Here, look.

Still don’t believe it? Here’s the YouTube description.

Robert Morris beats Kentucky
Robert Morris beats Kentucky
Robert Morris beats Kentucky

It was pretty incredible, despite Kentucky having to basically give up the spoils of being a top seed to play the game on the road. That’s outweighed by the hilarious tininess of Robert Morris, who didn’t bring in enough fans in an entire season to match one of the Wildcats’ home games.

Although the Wildcats were the top seed in the tournament, they had to travel to Robert Morris because Rupp Arena is being used for NCAA Tournament games. The total attendance for all of Robert Morris’s home games was 15,692. The attendance for Kentucky’s final home game was 24,294.

Robert Morris moves on to face the winner of the Providence/Charlotte game, and while a second round appearance is really all they’re guaranteed — they aren’t getting a giant new stadium for a bunch of new crazy bandwagon Colonials fans or anything — they’ve already enjoyed one unexpected perk.

Via Reddit comes the best possible edit to the Robert Morris Wikipedia page. It encapsulates everything you need to know about the upset in one beautiful reference to English-American history. Boom:

And Now, The Starting Pitcher For The New York Giants

Written by Brandon Stroud / 03.07.13

Pitcher Tackles RunnerThis video comes to us via Reddit without a lot of context, but it’s easy enough to figure out. It’s your classic “pitcher tackles runner” baseball scenario. Wait, what

GASP, are you serious? What the heeeck?

That’s the analysis of the crowd, and it says it all. What the heck indeed, guy who has been playing baseball long enough to be a team’s pitcher but still thinks you can Monty Brown Pounce a dude to keep him from scoring.

The players and coaches all handled the situation well, but man, I feel like a guy blindsiding you with a tackle in BASEBALL deserves an organized team beatdown.

Edit: Who am I kidding? It’s probably an AT&T commercial.

The Best Of Jose Bautista’s Reddit AMA

Written by Ashley Burns / 03.07.13

On paper (or perhaps pehper) the Toronto Blue Jays should be the team to beat in the American League East this season. With the core of the New York Yankees – Curtis Granderson, Alex Rodriguez and Mark Texeira – already injured and expected to miss significant time, the Bronx Bombers should be in for a down year. Additionally, the Boston Red Sox are coming off an unusual last place finish, which leaves the Baltimore Orioles and Tampa Bay Rays as the main threats to the Blue Jays’ divisional hopes. And thus ends the strangest paragraph I’ve written in several years.

So it shouldn’t surprise anyone that Jays outfielder Jose Bautista is already psyched and energized to get the season underway, so he took to Reddit yesterday for an Ask Me Anything session, through which he answered some of the hardest questions that any athlete could ever answer – namely, what’s it like to play with Colby Rasmus’ goofy-looking ass?

Oh, and it also helped that Bautista was promoting MLB the Show. I’d certainly be excited if I were featured in a video game, and hopefully it would be called “Asslevania” and I play a vampire slayer who hooks up with Kate Upton. If anyone from Konami is reading this, I’m willing to write that plot.

Anyway, Bautista answered a ton of questions and seems like a generally great guy, so here are some of the better, more insightful answers for people like me who think Reddit threads are ridiculously confusing to navigate. That’s not a dig at Reddit, mind you, I’m just old and easily confused.

The Game That’s Causing An Internet War: ‘Winnie The Pooh Home Run Derby’

Written by Ashley Burns / 01.04.13

We haven’t really discussed Flash games since we found out about Old Spice’s “Dikembe Mutombo’s 4.5 Weeks to Save the World”, which was far and away the best game that you could waste time at work with in 2012. But flash games are my dirty little secret, so when a new, fun game pops up on the radar, I’m usually gonna throw a few minutes at it to see what the fuss is all about, because I’m a child who refuses to grow up. This week’s buzzworthy game is fittingly sports-related, as you can tell from the title of this post, and it’s called “Winnie the Pooh Home Run Derby”. Hehe, Pooh.

So what’s the big deal about some paint-by-numbers kid’s game? I mean, it’s no Pinch Hitter 2, right? Apparently, this game was discovered by a random 4chan user and then picked up by another Reddit user, and suddenly Winnie’s Derby became the hardest game on the Internet. Just ask the Reddit users in this thread.

The Nolan Ryan Robin Venture Fight, Now In 8-Bits

Written by Brandon Stroud / 12.06.12

I think I speak for everyone when I say Nolan Ryan headlocking Robin Ventura and bashing him in the skull like a boss is the greatest moment in baseball history. Okay, maybe not the best, but the list goes “Jackie Robinson,” “Kirk Gibson’s gimpy home run,” then Nolan Ryan emasculating Ventura.

If you are on the Internet, you do not need me to tell you that Reddit is a place full of wonderful things, but today there is nothing more wonderful than said Nolan Ryan/Robin Ventura railroading as interpreted by the 1987 video game classic R.B.I. Baseball.

It’s two beautiful artistic endeavors brought together as one:
