This Week In ‘Dude, Come On, Bro’: Alabama QB AJ McCarron

Written by Ashley Burns / 04.15.13

AJ McCarron and Waka Flocka Flame remind you that Alabama is No. 1.

If you judge a man solely by his Twitter account, then Alabama QB AJ McCarron comes across as a pretty big douchebag. That’s not to say that I think he is a big ol’ bag of oil and vinegar to the billionth degree, but if I were a non-sports fan with no clue who he was and I came across his Twitter profile, I’d probably be like, “Gee, this guy is a total uber-douche, white sunglasses and all.” Of course, the same can be said for plenty of people, myself included.

Now, do I blame McCarron for rocking the whole “SWAGGY BRO” vibe now that he’s a national champion college guy whose girlfriend rocketed to fame after she was made out to be the second coming of Helen of Troy on national TV? Hell no. He’s behaving exactly how I’d expect any 22-year old guy to behave. In fact, I’m a little shocked that he doesn’t have his own replica WWE Championship belt to wear everywhere. It’s a white belt, naturally.

However, I do have to issue one little, “Dude, come on, bro” for McCarron after he hung out with rapping Muppet Waka Flocka Flame over the weekend.

Every Good College Rap Song Deserves A Sequel: ‘FGCU Dunk City 2′

Written by Ashley Burns / 03.28.13

Last week, as the myth of the 2013 NCAA Tournament Cinderella grew beyond their redneckian beach town of Ft. Myers, the No. 15 seed Florida Gulf Coast Eagles were gifted with their new nickname, Dunk City, and their very own rap anthem. And while I’d thought that I would never, not in a million academic school years, hear anything as wonderful at Chet Haze’s “White and Purple” anthem for Northwestern football, FGCU MC Black Magic showed up and made Chet look like Colin Hanks.

Set to the beat of Tyga’s “Rack City”, Black Magic and his female counterpart, Bambi, delivered a “Dunk City” rap song that racked up around a half million views in less than a week. But apparently it was missing something, because Mr. Magic and Bambi are back today with “Dunk City 2” and this time they brought Eagles star and one-time bench scrub Sherwood Brown with them.

They also brought a bunch of students and some new rhymes, so I thought we could break down the finer points of “Dunk City 2” today.

Good News And Bad News, Preakness Fans: You Get Macklemore And Pitbull

Written by Ashley Burns / 02.26.13

"Please, throw Bud Light responsibly."

If you thought the strange feud between Lil Wayne and the Miami Heat was over – you know, because Weezy is cool with LeBron James’ mom and all – you were dead wrong, because Miami’s homegrown rappers have been stepping up to call out Wayne for dissing the 305. It started with Unkle Luke reminding Lil Wayne that he’s the unofficial mayor of Miami, and now everyone’s favorite product pitchman and the possible result of a threeway involving Luke and Jon Secada, Pitbull, has released his own diss track directed at Weezy. Ladies and gentlemen, hip hop in 2013.

But before Lil Wayne can retaliate with his own diss track or by possibly giving him scurvy, Pitbull has to fulfill his latest obligation of headlining the 2013 Preakness InfieldFest on May 18 at the Pimlico Race Track in Baltimore. Because when you think horse racing, you think drinking Dr. Pepper under a freeway. No beef, though, because the Preakness folks just want to fist pump their Bud Light Limes and have a real good time.

We Can’t Bring You Anywhere, 50 Cent

Written by Ashley Burns / 02.25.13

50 Cent’s new album “Street King Immortal” was set to be released tomorrow after several setbacks in 2012, but it seems that it has been pushed back once again to a tentative release date of “whenever the f*ck it happens”. This is worth mentioning because aside from beefing with Floyd Mayweather Jr. and starring in crappy energy shot commercials with Joan Rivers, I can’t figure out why the hell 50 Cent is being invited to huge events like the Daytona 500, but sure enough he was there yesterday and he was as poignant as ever.

Mr. Cent started his day by Tweeting that he couldn’t find any black people at the race, and everyone laughed because that joke is fresh. But to his credit, he at least set the race as a top priority, and he made that perfectly clear to his biggest fans…

We Now (Kind Of) Know The Truth Behind The Lil Wayne And Miami Heat Beef

Written by Ashley Burns / 02.21.13

While most NBA fans are probably glued to Chris Broussard’s Twitter account to check out his breaking NBA trade deadline news that Yahoo!’s Adrian Wojnarowski already broke 5 minutes earlier, some people are still trying to get to the bottom of the season’s biggest controversy – Lil Wayne’s beef with the Miami Heat.

In case you forgot, Weezy claimed that he was removed from a recent Heat game because he was cheering for his favorite team, the Los Angeles Lakers. That’s his story – he was simply cheering for the Lakers in the Heat’s arena and the police made him leave for that. Just that. Not because he also allegedly threatened another fan by motioning that he had a gun. Simply because he was cheering for the Lakers.

Since then, the Heat revealed that Wayne left on his own accord, but the rapper still insisted that he’d been banned by the NBA from all league events, which led some conspiracy theorists to believe that noted Illuminati front man and Brooklyn Nets minority owner Jay Z was behind it all. The NBA – where rappers being bigger news than players happens.

Mario Chalmers Finally Recorded A Rap Song

Written by Brandon Stroud / 11.13.12

Mario Chalmers rapping

Mario Chalmers finally recorded a rap song, and it’s got everything. Lens flares! Exploding pillars of flame! Big Boi’s sunglasses! Lay-up similes! Mario Chalmers dribbling a basketball in street clothes! An inflated sense of self-worth, as if he’s not totally the B.J. Armstrong of his team!

The only question is, “is it better than Kevin Druant’s rap song?” I want to say no (he doesn’t say “urrbody” enough), but I’ll let you be the judge. UNTITLED MARIO CHALMERS BASKETBALL-THEMED CLUB BANGER is after the jump.
