Macklemore And Detlef Schrempf Vs. Oklahoma City. Who Ya Got?

Written by Brandon Stroud / 05.14.13

Macklemore Seattle

I’m not trying to write this much about Macklemore, stories just keep happening. The guy is set to headline the Preakness with Pitbull this weekend and hung out onstage with the Oregon Duck LAST weekend. In two weekends he’ll be dating Kate Upton and winning a Most Beautiful Surfing Dog contest or whatever and we’ll never be rid of him.

Anyway, the reason we’re talking about him today is because he’s a loyal resident of Seattle, Washington, and as such, that makes him disdainful of the fine men and women of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Something about a pro basketball team being torn away moments before they became championship contenders, who can say for sure? So what happens when the NEW Sonics try to use the hit song of a guy who loves the OLD Sonics as their pre-game hype music?

The Oregon Ducks Are Selling A Helmet Car, Hanging Out With Macklemore

Written by Brandon Stroud / 05.13.13

Oregon volkswagen beetle

I guess the Oregon Ducks have always been pretty weird. They were the first team on the ‘Gangnam Style’ parody video bandwagon, they promote via Ferris Bueller homage and their fans are prone to emotional breakdowns.

But yeah, now they’re auctioning off a 1973 Oregon Ducks Volkswagen Bug for $2500, if you’re the kind of fan who wants to pay nearly three-grand for a car that doesn’t run and looks like an enormous football helmet.

The skinny:

A staple at Autzen Stadium for years, now is your chance to own this one of a kind 1973 VW Bug with an Oregon football helmet on top and CD player inside. Imagine parking this at your tailgate on gameday or bringing it to special events. The helmet is green with a yellow “O” and the Oregon license plate on this unique car is “QB” and registration expires 10/03/13. The seats inside are designed to look like a football with laces and Nike Swoosh.

It has a 1641 CC dual port motor w/ 4 speed stick shift. NOT CURRENTLY IN RUNNING CONDITION.

Disclaimer: This car is currently for display purposes only as it currently does not operate and it has not been driven on roads. The item will need to be picked up from the University of Oregon athletic department. Winning bid is responsible for pick up within 2 weeks!

brb, I’m imagining what it’d be like to to park this at my tailgate. Yep, it’s a car that looks like a football helmet, so … a regular tailgate, and now strangers bother me about it the entire time? Good deal.

If that’s not enough to substantiate the oddness, here’s a clip of rapper Macklemore praising Eugene, Oregon at a concert (complete with fans doing all sorts of hilarious JEAAAAHHH reactions), then performing his hit ‘Thrift Shop’ alongside the Oregon Duck. Yep.

Golf And Vanilla Ice, Together At Last

Written by Brandon Stroud / 05.03.13

slice slice baby Vanilla Ice golf parodyVia Golf.com

Teaching pro Marty McCurry has a new way to fix his students’ golf swing. If they don’t start swinging “inside-out,” he threatens to keep rapping. Enjoy!

I’ll be straight with you … when I saw that there was a Vanilla Ice parody video about golf called ‘Slice, Slice Baby,’ my first thought was, “oh great, the Golf Boys again.” Now I’m just happy that the Golf Boys have an N*SYNC to their Backstreet Boys. N*SYNC were the ones that would just randomly rap, right? Or was that everyone.

I hope this video catches on, because it can’t be too hard to put this in Actual Vanilla Ice’s hands and get him to cameo in the follow-up, which I assume would be called ‘What It’s Like (Havin’ A Rory)’. Buy him a sandwich at the clubhouse and he’s in!

[h/t as always to Shane over at Devil Ball Golf]

Indiana’s Yogi Ferrell Released A Rap Song (When He Was In The Sixth Grade)

Written by Brandon Stroud / 05.01.13

Yogi Ferrell rap song

Indiana point guard Yogi Ferrell is a talented kid, but you can’t know how truly talented he is until you’ve heard him rap about wanting to go to Duke, but how he won’t because his cousin goes there, when he was 13 years old. Yep, Yogi recorded a rap song back in the sixth grade, when he was merely a Boo-Boo, and it is adorable.

A quick explanation, courtesy of YouTube user Channing Mitzell:

So I just found my computer from 6th grade and this video (from seven years ago) was on my hard drive. I have no idea how or why this was on here but I thought I’d share haha. If I remember correctly, back in 6th grade at Park Tudor we had a business fair (in Mr Weymuth’s class) where every student had to sell a product…this was his product haha. In case someone cares, this was posted with yogi’s permission

Here’s the song, if you’re interested in buying Yogi’s product:

From Jay Z To Bob Costas, It Seems Like Rap Has Found A Home In Baseball

Written by Ashley Burns / 04.03.13

Now I don’t know much about the music that you crazy kids are listening to today, but I’m told by the barista at my Starbucks that Jay Z is a hippity hop rap maker, and he’s quite successful. So successful, in fact, that he could write down 100 jobs and careers on a piece of paper, cover his eyes and point, and just up and do whichever gig he chooses, simply because he’s wealthier than most nations and just doesn’t give a proverbial f*ck.

That’s why it wasn’t very shocking when New York Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano announced that he had fired his agent Scott Boras and declared that he was the first professional athlete to sign with Jay Z’s new sports agency, Roc Nation Sports.

Kate Upton Rapping Update: She’s Still Not Rapping, But It’s Close Enough

Written by Brandon Stroud / 02.14.13

Kate Upton rapping

Last week we posted the preview clip of Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue cover model Kate Upton spitting hot fire alongside Outkast’s Big Boi and Buffalo Bills wide receiver Stevie Johnson for episode 2 of Skullcandy’s Take a Supermodel to Work. The full episode has arrived, and if you’re a fan of watching Kate Upton remove her jacket, you’ll like it.

I was expecting a full-on ‘The Love Below’ effort from Kate, and unfortunately we STILL don’t get to hear her rapping. We just get her saying rap terms while a pair of Not Jean-Ralphios ogle her boobs and Big Boi just plays video games with Stevie. But, you know, Kate is adorable, and it is what it is. I guess Kate singing along to ‘Teach Me How To Dougie’ will have to remain the best Kate Upton rapping memory.

You can check out the full episode below. Spoiler alert:
