Randy Moss Missed History By That Much…

Written by JOSH Z / 11.12.10

Just had an odd realization: If Randy Moss would have gone to Miami over waivers last week, as so many had expected, he could have been the first player in NFL history to play 17 games in a regular season. Moss was shipped from New England, and subsequently Minnesota, before either team made it to its bye week. Moss could have been sort of a guinea pig for the league’s “enhanced season” plan, provided, of course, that he would have stayed with the Dolphins for the balance of the year.

Unfortunately, Randy went to the Titans, who were off last week. Dammit, Randy. You’ll just have to settle for being the first guy to catch a pass with three different teams in the same year. I’m sure that somehow this is still all your fault.

Randy Moss To Tennessee

Written by JOSH Z / 11.03.10

Adam Schefter just confirmed that the Tennessee Titans have “won” the Randy Moss sweepstakes. Jeff Fisher’s club will be on the hook for the Moss’s remaining salary of $3 million and change, and Titans quarterback Vince Young has a new buddy to hang out with at those shirtless clubs.

It’s a win for Tennessee, who get a nice lease on a complement to their own wideout in replacement for Kenny Britt, who needs one in a race for the AFC South where the Colts are actually vulnerable. The bizarreness of it all, I guess, is that Tennessee was 22nd in line in the waiver order, and that Moss fell that far. I was silly to think that Moss had a prayer at landing in Cincinnati; they have plenty of depth at troublemaker.

Blackface On ESPN: We’ve Seen It All Now

Written by JOSH Z / 11.02.10

1288734475265_b256bI have to tip the proverbial hat to NGNG Sports for this screencap of DJ Steve Porter–auteur of the Randy Moss “One Clap” mashup of the volatile wideout’s press conferences. It features Porter, surely a very nice guy, in his classic home Randy Moss jersey. And an afro wig. And blackface. Yes, this was on ESPN, and yes, I laughed my ass off when I saw it.

Look, I’m not saying it’s not racist, but I’m not saying it is. I’m not one of those people pretending to be the moral guardian of all that is holy and good, but this clearly was an oversight by somebody. And one could only wonder if the monolith will be less eager to give an on-camera opportunity to the next up-and-comer in new media. Right now, someone’s head is rolling down Middle Street. Cool song, though. It’s after the jump.

Randy Moss Complained About Food He Didn’t Pay For

Written by JOSH Z / 11.02.10

To follow-up on yesterday’s post of Randy Moss’ dismissal from the Minnesota Vikings: yes, Moss was cut, and no, not everyone on the team is that bent out of shape about it.

Yahoo!’s Michael Silver recounted a Friday incident in the Vikings’ locker room where Moss went out of his way to berate a couple of restaurant proprietors during a catered team meal.

According to one player who witnessed the scene, Moss yelled, “What the [expletive]? Who ordered this crap? I wouldn’t feed this to my dog!”

Said the witness: “It was brutal. The truth is, he deserved to be cut after that. It was such an uncomfortable moment. You know that feeling where you just can tell someone feels so small? That’s what it was like being there.

“This wasn’t a chain – it was a mom-and-pop restaurant, and you could tell it was their best stuff. They had a special carving station set up, and there were players and other support staff lining up to eat it. And [Moss] is at his locker saying, ‘You know, I used to have to eat that crap – but now I’ve got money.’ You just felt so sad for them. I had never seen anyone treated like that.

“And by the way, the food was actually really good.”

Moss’s waiver claim should be sorted out by 4 pm tomorrow; he’ll be the first player in NFL history to start more than one game with three teams in the same season. My Randy Moss Bengals jersey is in the mail right now. I just hope it still fits after I eat all of this Halloween candy.

Randy Moss Will Now Half-Ass It For Some Other Team

Coach Dog wants to see you. Bring your playbook.

Well, that was quick. The Vikings just waived Randy Moss. It’s one thing to be a slouch on the field, but I guess it’s quite another to slouch and then whine about your coach.

Moss expressed frustration with the fact that members of the Vikings gave him validation for the input he gave them last week into the Patriots’ offensive tendencies. He seemed to be upset that the Vikings’ coaches hadn’t taken his advice.

Said Moss: “The bad part about it — you have six days to prepare for a team, and on the seventh day, that Sunday, meaning today, I guess they come over to me and say, ‘Dag, Moss, you was right about a couple plays and a couple schemes they were going to run.’ It hurts as a player that you put a lot of hard work in all week, and toward the end of the week, Sunday, when you get on the field, that’s when they acknowledge about the hard work you put in throughout the week. That’s actually a disappointment.” –USA Today.

Final tally? Thirteen receptions and 2 touchdowns for a third-round pick. But hey, the Vikings probably sold, like, five or six more MOSS jerseys. That’s a totally worthwhile four-week stint. Sting has had orgasms last longer than that.

This Randy Moss Trade Is A Disgusting Act

Written by JOSH Z / 10.06.10

randy moss disgusting actNFL.com is reporting that the Minnesota Vikings and New England Patriots have finalized a trade that will send wide receiver Randy Moss to the Minnesota Vikings. Moss played in Minneapolis for the first seven years of his NFL career before being traded to the Oakland Raiders in 2005. Rumors of the trade began swirling last night when ESPN’s Bill Simmons misfired a DM tweet that went public.

The Patriots will receive a 2011 third-round draft pick in exchange for the seven-time Pro Bowl wide receiver, who started his NFL career with the Vikings in 1998. Had New England allowed Moss to leave in free agency next offseason, it would have received a third-round selection in the 2012 draft as compensation.

Moss, who’s in the final year of his current contract, is scheduled to make $6.4 million in base salary this season. He wants a new deal, but he wouldn’t receive one from the Vikings as part of the trade, Lombardi reported. via.

A third-rounder? That’s the best they could get for the guy? And secondly, I’m surprised that Moss did not get a new deal from the Vikings. Those contract talks between Moss and Minnesota were reportedly the only thing holding up the trade. I’m just stunned (and somewhat annoyed) to see Moss’s price set so low.

But now Randy can go someplace where he’s more appreciated, the Vikings finally have a qualified replacement option for Brett Favre and New England can bask in the glare of its all-Caucasian receiving corps. It’s a win-win-win, really.
