Gangnam Style Rampage Jackson, Everybody

Rampage Jackson Gangnam Style

So far, our coverage of sports-related instances of ‘Gangnam Style’ has been light. I couldn’t resist writing about the Oregon Duck’s version (because it is awesome), but I’m not quick to relive the ‘Call Me Maybe’ parody and tribute video terrors of the spring and summer.

That said, here’s Gangnam Style Rampage Jackson.

Funny enough, this clip of Jackson doing Psy’s signature horsey dance contains less air humping than a normal Rampage interview. If you need more backstory than “everybody loves that song and Rampage will do anything for attention”, here’s a recap from Maggie Hendricks over at Cagewriter:

Jackson had communicated with Psy via Twitter, telling him he’s working on the dance that has become a viral sensation. He also said he was practicing the dance by himself when a teammate walked in. Awkward!

Skip to the 1:15 mark in the video to check out the dancing. Ariel Helwani’s a much better interviewer than me, I would’ve just stood up and flipped the table.

UFC 144: Edgar Vs. Omega Shenron

Written by Brandon Stroud / 02.22.12

UFC 144 Japanese promoAnd here I thought a parody of the Brady Bunch theme was how they’d make me an MMA fan.

Please enjoy this Japanese promo for UFC 144: Edgar Vs. (Florence?) Henderson, which combines South Park’s “Let’s Fighting Love” with animated fight footage and some tried-and-true anime tropes — giant eyes, speed lines and ring girls straight out of Magic Knight Rayearth.

The nerd in me wishes they’d subbed in Lord Il Palazzo for Dana White and maybe had Brock Lensar slowly fill with light and explode when Alistair Overeem kneed him in the spleen, but whatever. I’m just happy with the accuracy of “protect my balls” UFC interviews and Rampage Jackson in the locker room with a couple of 11-year olds.

UFC 75 HAPPENED

Written by Matt / 09.09.07

I remember when I was terrified of Mirko Cro Cop.  I probably still should be, but I'm still drunk from last night.  Here's the end of the fight he lost in a unanimous decision to Cheick Kongo last night in UFC 75:

In a related story, the movie Congo really sucks. It's just horrible – one expects more from a Michael Crichton vehicle.  Also, Quinton 'Rampage' Jackson is still a badass. -KD

RAMPAGE TKOS ICEMAN IN FIRST ROUND

Written by Matt / 05.27.07

OK, some outfit named ZUFFA, LLC has claimed copyright infringement on on all YouTube videos of this fight, so poor bastards like me have to imaginatively reconstruct it from ringside accounts.  Here we go:  Quinton "Rampage" Jackson was booed upon entering the ring for doing a lame Junkyard Dog impression, while Chuck "Iceman" Liddell was cheered wildly by the crowd (most UFC fans are also devotees of Eugene O'Neill and love any brawler who references one of his titles).  As the rules were enunciated by the referee, Jackson asked Liddell, "Is there any way we can resolve this without coming to blows?" Liddell responded, "Your comments after our last match cut me to the quick sir, I think not!"  They exchanged a few punches before Jackson decapitated Liddell with a thunderous right hand.  As the Iceman's limp body fell to the canvas, Rampage kicked Chuck's skull around the octagon and then played hacky sack with it.  The ref stopped the fight after Jackson successfully completed an 'outside stall'

"I was doing my thing," said the charismatic Jackson. "The right hand landed right on the jaw, right where I planned for it to go, and it was des-ti-ny."

Rampage is so charismatic that he can make people hear hyphens!  Just like a supervillain.  In fact, I believe Rampage is a Marvel villain.  And Iceman is a Marvel superhero.  Was Stan Lee behind this match?  Remember when Iceman roomed with Spiderman and Firestar on Saturday morning cartoons?  Mmm, Firestar.  You don't need your superpower to make me hot honey.  Just don't change your hair. -KD

UPDATE: Thanks to a tip from commenter Flushing Meadows, you can watch the match here.  I still think my description of the action is more enthralling.
