Rays Fan Ejected For Thinking the Yankees Suck

Rays fan ejected for "Yankees Suck" shirt

Yankees SuckThe Tampa Bay Rays ejected a fan from Tropicana Field for wearing a shirt reading “Yankees Suck” citing profanity, so either Bud Selig is controlling MLB security from a TV-covered command center like Ozymandias or the Rays are taking advice on what does and doesn’t constitute curse words from my grandmother. My grandmother would’ve ejected me from Tropicana Field for saying “God” or “darn,” and not even together. How easy is it to find switches in Tampa?

A little more on the story, from the Tampa Tribute:

The game got under way, but in the fourth inning a security guard came down the aisle and approached [Melvin] Little.

“The security guard says Major League Baseball has determined that the shirt constitutes profanity,” Little said. “He tells me to get another shirt, cover it up, turn it inside out or leave the stadium.

“I said, ‘That’s unbelievable,’ and he says, ‘I don’t’ make rules, I’m just telling you.’“

Little and his two sons, 8 and 19, instead accompanied the security guard to the offices to appeal the decision. But he got no relief there. He said a front-office Rays employee just shut the door on him.

The best part is that Little is a lawyer, and his letter of protest to the organization was met with an amazing canned response of “We get tons of letters from people.” Good to know Bible-era Chief Wiggum is in charge of Rays PR. What’s next, ejecting Yankees fans for making jack-off gestures at opposing outfielders? Kicking out anybody at a ballgame in Texas wearing one of those Rangers shirts that are nothing but illustrated hand gestures? Actually, that’s not a bad idea.

The Yankees do suck, by the way, in case anybody wanted to fact check his shirt.

Justin Smith Was Ejected For That?

Written by Ashley Burns / 12.17.10

While the San Diego Chargers were busy thrashing the San Francisco 49ers 34-7 last night, Niners defensive tackle Justin Smith got into a bit of a verbal bout with Chargers tight end Randy McMichael. As the two exchanged words in the second quarter, referee Garth DeFelice stepped in to break it up, when Smith unleashed a thousand furies upon him. Or he pushed his arm away.

DeFelice didn’t take too kindly to Smith’s response and he immediately ejected him from the game for making illegal contact with an official. Legal contact, of course, is a gentle nude embrace followed by breakfast. Of the fiery DeFelice, one announcer said:

“This guy right here, that’s Garth DeFelice and he’s one of the toughest umpires in the National Football League.”

I think that marks the first time that a NFL announcer used the “This guy right here” on a non-player. Finally, a breakthrough. As for Smith’s take on the ruling, he seems to be fine with it. Or at least he understands it…
