Kate Upton Finally Broke That High School Kid’s Heart

Written by Ashley Burns / 03.26.13

Los Angeles high school senior Jake Davidson achieved Internet fame last week when he posted a very creative video prom invitation addressed to two-time Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue cover model Kate Upton. Bless her busty heart, Upton Tweeted at Jake and played along like a good sport, as she even called into NBC’s Today when Jake was being interviewed about his crush, because Matt Lauer has nothing better to do.

But now the fame is over, because Upton did a little crushing of her own. And by that I mean his heart.

“It was so flattering,” Upton, 20, tells PEOPLE. “The video was so cute, and I really appreciated it. There was something about it that I knew I had to respond.”

“When a guy has a good sense of humor and confidence, that’s attractive,” she says. “This video was creative and funny. It made me laugh, and everyone loves a good laugh!

“I’m not sure if I’ll be able to go with him or not, due to my schedule,” she says. “I want to, but I just don’t know if I can make it work. But I really appreciated being asked; it made me feel really great!” (Via People)

Sure, that’s not a definitive “No”, but we’re all old enough to read between the lines. But if I can, I’d like to take a moment to have some real talk with Jake, from one bro to another, now that he can just focus on finding a girl at his school to take to his prom and awkwardly try to make out with at the end of the night.

Update Of Pure Jealous Rage: Kate Upton Responded To That Kid’s Prom Invite

Written by Ashley Burns / 03.20.13

Yesterday, we pondered aloud whether or not Los Angeles high school student Jake Davidson deserved to be taken seriously with his creative prom invitation to our beloved Kate Upton, and it appears that we came through for Jake, because she has responded to him.

The two-time Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue cover model Tweeted at Jake last night, telling him to call her Katie, which is just complete BS because we just try and try and try and try and all we get is “Please refer to her as the plaintiff”. So is she going to make Jake the coolest wealthy teenager among all of his wealthy classmates?

The answer is an incredible, resounding – probably not. UPDATE: Jesus, either Kate is incredibly sweet or she’s going to go through with this.

Should We Endorse This Kid Who Asked Kate Upton To Be His Prom Date?

Written by Ashley Burns / 03.19.13

Los Angeles high school student Jake Davidson is a man with a dream. Well, technically he’s one of millions of men, ages 13 to 90, with a dream of wooing our favorite Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue cover model and celebrity sports fan Kate Upton. Unfortunately, I think many of us – at least those of us in the non-psycho category – have realized that unless we can throw a 101-mph fastball through 9 innings and 110 pitches, we don’t stand much of a chance when it comes to stealing Upton’s heart.

But not being a Cy Young-winning pitcher won’t stand in Jake’s way, because he is staying the course in his desire to embarrass himself in Upton’s presence, as he recently recorded and posted a video dedicated to the two-time SI cover model, asking her to be his date to his prom.

Gabby Douglas Is A Gold Medalist In Gymnastics And Breaking Hearts

Written by Ashley Burns / 01.04.13

"And that's how you tell boys to talk to the hand."

I have to give credit where it’s due. When Twitter celebrity Leon Purvis first posted a video asking 2012 Summer Olympics superstar and gold medalist Gabby Douglas to prom, I thought that we just had another one of those typical star-chaser types on our hands. But it turns out that while, yes, Purvis is a bit of a star-chaser, he gets results.

For example, Douglas wasn’t his first celebrity conquest. Originally, Purvis rose to fame in 2011 when he asked Justin Bieber to his junior prom “as a bro”. Hey, don’t judge. I’ve asked Channing Tatum to be my best friend, so we obviously all use the Internet to get things done on our own accord. The only difference is that while C-Tates has never responded to me, Purvis actually met the Biebs in person. And yesterday morning, he received his response from Douglas.

You see, people? Star-chasing pays off if you’re not a total creepshow about it. It’s just too bad that Purvis didn’t get the response he wanted.

This Kid Wants To Go To Prom With Gabby Douglas, Needs To Chill Out A Little

Written by Ashley Burns / 12.19.12

Lost in the shuffle of producing what is already being called the greatest list of 2012 sports moments that will ever be written, according to this guy and these guys, was the phenomenal, inspirational tale of Gabby Douglas, who actually almost quit her dream of being an Olympic gymnast, because she couldn’t stand being away from her family.

“It was very hard to overcome being away from [my] family,” the Virginia-born gymnast told Us of her nonstop traveling and training schedule, noting that it was especially difficult to say goodbye after they visited her on the road. “It’s a very strong thing. It almost drove me to quit the sport that I love and [kept me] from achieving my dreams.” (Via Us Magazine)

And since she rose to fame as one of the dynamic members of the Fierce Five gold-medal women’s team in the 2012 Summer Olympics, Douglas has had to overcome the problems being caused by her family. It certainly hasn’t been easy for this 16-year old international star. Certainly, the last thing she needs to worry about is what to wear on prom night, but that’s not stopping one hornball teenager from trying to date way out of his league.

Pro Wrestling Prom is Still Happening

Written by Brandon Stroud / 05.13.11

Matt Palmer gets powerbombed by Masada @ Anarchy Championship Wrestling

A few days ago I reported about a professional wrestling prom that is going down this weekend in Austin, and how proud I am to be going to the Men’s Wearhouse to buy a suit jacket that will probably end up caked in blood. Since then the word has spread (including a link on wrestling legend Austin Idol’s Twitter … pretty surreal to think a guy who held the PWF World Tag Team Championships even indirectly knows who I am) and I’ve gotten requests for more information, like “how is this going to work?” and “what the hell?”

Rachel Summerlyn (swoon)Well, to find out what the hell, I got in touch with the woman pictured right. That’s Rachel Summerlyn, a 24-year old Austin resident who happens to be a veteran of Ring of Honor pro wrestling and Chicago’s SHIMMER Women Athletes. She’s one of the fine folks at Anarchy Championship Wrestling putting the prom together, and in the ten months I’ve spent in Texas, I’ve seen her dance to Avril Lavigne’s “Girlfriend” and put somebody in a Texas Cloverleaf submission on a sh*tload of thumbtacks.

On Sunday she’s in the prom-themed (and first ever) “Anarchy Evening Gown Match,” where the winner is the woman who rips off her opponents’ clothes. In case you’re worried that sounds a little too much like the hacky T-and-A you see on WWE, keep in mind that the match also features arguably the best female wrestler in the world, Sara Del Rey, and that nothing in Anarchy is normal. I had a chance to talk to Rachel yesterday, and find out exactly how close to the Carrie prom this whole thing is gonna turn out.
