Despite All His Rage, Frank Matin is Still Just a Rat in a Cage

Written by Ryan Walsh / 12.23.10

Kansas State men’s basketball coach, Frank Martin, has had a bad week. After getting his team to an AP top 10 ranking, the coach and his team lost to lowly, unranked Florida. The team slipped to #11 in the rankings, but are sure to see their ranking fall further after losing to unranked UNLV. Many would question how a program with such talented players could lose two in a row to supposedly less talented teams, but the loss to UNLV can be easily explained. Kansas State’s top two scorers, Jacob Pullen and Curtis Kelly, were suspended by the NCAA for receiving illegal benefits. When told of the suspensions, Cam Newton chortled to himself and continued to polish his Heisman Trophy.

Preseason All-America guard Jacob Pullen, who had made 82 consecutive starts for No. 11 Kansas State, was suspended by the NCAA for three games just before the Wildcats’ loss to UNLV on Tuesday night.

In a statement, the school said Pullen and senior forward Curtis Kelly were being punished for receiving impermissible benefits in connection with the purchase of clothing at a local department store. –ESPN.com

Anywho, Frank was less than excited to address the media, who made the obvious connection that not scoring enough points is difficult when you’re missing your two leading scorers, after the loss. The press conference is so uncomfortable it’s fantastic. Martin berates the press like a red-headed step child. I’d love to see this get autotuned while it’s still fresh in my mind, but unfortunatly DJ Steve Porter doesn’t work that quickly. Video after the jump. Read the rest of this entry »

Press Hop 2 Has More Michelle Beadle

Written by Ryan Walsh / 08.03.10

presshop

The second edition of DJ Steve Porter’s Press Hop was released last week, and Michelle Beadle makes a couple of appearances, which is good news for anyone who likes cute blondes who can talk sports. 90s era Mike Tyson and Deion Sanders also get some face time, which is good news for everyone.

Despite those advantages, I have to admit that the first version is better. There’s more of a reliance on the absurdity of the press conferences rather than the beat itself. That being said, how awesome are Lennox Lewis Mitch Green and Mike Tyson dressed? I guess that’s why boxing is going the way of the buffalo. Video after the jump. Read the rest of this entry »

HOW TO, LIKE UM, BOMB AN INTERVIEW

Written by JOSH Z / 09.09.09

Here’s Ellis Lankster, the 7th round pick in last April’s draft for the Bills, and other athletes wish they had the same command of the podium that he does. Just let the eloquence wash over you like a shower of broken glass. I counted 16 “Like, um” iterations, which should leave the stewards of the internet plenty of ammo for any upcoming remix. I’m keeping my fingers crossed. Via. Thanks, Greg.
