THE HOLIDAY BOWL WAS PRETTY GOOD

Written by Matt / 12.31.08

I actually kinda watched part of last night’s Holiday Bowl, and it wasn’t not entertaining.  For something on in the background, anyway.  For those of you who had better things to do, Oregon rallied to score five second-half touchdowns in beating Oklahoma State, 42-31.

I include the video highlights above because three of the TDs are pretty sweet: Jeremiah Johnson’s 76-yard run, quarterback Jeremiah Masoli’s safety-flattening 41-yard score (one of his three rushing TDs), and the game-sealing 29-yard run by LeGarrette Blount, who hurdled a defender, then carried several more on his back the final ten yards into the end zone. Good stuff. Also, anything bad that happens to the state of Oklahoma has to be good. How else could I love tornadoes so much?

AWWWWWK-WARRRRRRRD

Written by Matt / 09.24.07

This video has already been on every college football blog on the Internet, but the amazingness above deserves the widest dissemination possible, so please enjoy.

The orator delivering this tirade is Mike Gundy, Oklahoma State's football coach.  The childless reporter he's ranting against — and I, presume, staring at, while she shifts uncomfortably and looks helplessly around the room for a hole to crawl into — is Jenni Carlson of The Oklahoman, whose editorial about benched QB Bobby Reid can be found here.  I can't imagine she's dotting the "i" in Jenni  with a heart today.

Honestly, I don't see what the big hubbub is all about.  I mean, her column was just a bunch of conjecture based on rumor and hearsay that she completely blew out of proportion.  That makes her officially qualified to write With Leather the next time I go on vacation.

OKLAHOMA COACH HAS A NAKED DAUGHTER

Written by Matt / 09.20.07

This photo here — Exhibit #2,473 why With Leather is banned at several major corporations and most schools — is from Playboy's Girls of the Big 12 last year.  I know: not timely.  But The Lost Ogle has done some quality sleuthing to learn that the nubile OSU Cowgirl here, listed as Kelli Gallo, is actually Sunni Kate Galloway!  Dun dun DUN!

Oh, I guess I could have set that up better.  Sunni Kate is the daughter of Oklahoma baseball coach Sunny Galloway.  So… that's interesting.  Hey look, titties!

And of course, I wouldn't be doing my job if I didn't give you the NSFW linkage.  The original photo can be found here, and I happen to like it because it shows her nipples instead of a blog logo.  I'm old-fashioned that way.  The rest of the Girls of the Big 12 shoot is here, and I have to say, the Big 12 kinda stepped it up.  Those girls used more wax than Madame Tussaud.

COL-LEGE BASKET-BALL?

Written by Matt / 01.17.07

Listen, I know I don't give enough love to college basketball. It's one of my faults, like being so humble despite my good looks. So I hope this post can hold you NCAA hoops fans over until the conference tourneys start, because that's when I can actually work up the ability to pay attention.

Anyway, it would be kind of criminal to not mention that Texas and Oklahoma State played a hell of a game last night. It was almost Fiesta Bowlesque: A falling-out-of-bounds baseball-toss three-pointer, three overtimes, and a game-winning three at the end of it all. Kevin Durant is doing his part to overshadow Greg Oden's freshman year, and OSU's Mario Boggan may have outplayed Durant last night. You can read the full recap and watch highlights at some sports conglomerate's webpage here. Oh, and I guess that I should mention that the Cowboys won, 105-103.

As the Fanhaus's Nathan Fowler wrote,

This was college basketball at it's [sic] best, a reminder of why cold winter nights in the middle of the week can be some of the best sporting days of the year.

Of course, that's complete bullshit. Cold winter nights in the middle of the week are never the best sporting days of the year. But I like the sentiment, and this game was worthy of it.

UPDATE: Peter Schrager writes, "how do you mention ok state and texas and NOT mention that HORRIBLE camera work by espn 2…felt like we were sitting in the worst seat in the house all evening. Thanks for ruining it, espn." What's he talking about? People getting in the way of the camera just make you feel like you're there in the stands, man.
