LEBRON WANTS MORE 6 IN HIS LIFE

Written by uproxx / 03.02.10

LeBron_6LeBron doesn’t want to just wear No. 6 during the Olympics. The Cleveland Cavaliers guard just submitted paperwork to the NBA that would allow him to change his number from No. 23 in time for next season, in the event that he stayed with Cleveland (no such notice would be required if he wound up with another team). This move is either an attempt by James to pay tribute to the Nets current win total for the season or James is distancing himself from Jordan after MJ lost two games of H-O-R-S-E to a Bobcats benchwarmer.

James said in November he was considering the change out of respect to Michael Jordan, who wore No. 23. Paperwork had to be filed this week to request a number change for next season. –SI.com

This is almost too silly to even discuss, but LeBron’s jersey switch, whether it’s with the Cavs or some other club, should give the economy a boost. I almost feel sorry for the idiots that shelled out $80 or whatever it was for LeBron jerseys that will be almost worthless after this year. The NBA should pass a resolution that prohibits changing jersey numbers without stints in minor league baseball or rape accusations. Just think of the children. –Thanks, Brandon.

MARINO, NOT ELWAY, IS YOUR COMEBACK KING

Written by JOSH Z / 08.07.09

Football writer Scott Kacsmar took a look at the concept of what actually constitutes a “comeback” in NFL terms and found that, since comebacks are not kept as an official NFL stat, the PR departments of certain teams were free to make up any definition they pleased. But when Kacsmar ran the numbers on his own, he found out who the true Captain Comeback was. And it wasn’t John Elway. That’s redundant since you obviously read the headline, but anyway:

Once Kacsmar standardized the definitions and corrected some media guide oversights, he discovered that Elway had 34 true comebacks. Marino had 36. If you prefer to count the game-winning drives that started with fourth-quarter ties, then Marino still has a 51-49 edge. Any way you slice it, Marino is the real “comeback” king.

Elway may not even be second. Johnny Unitas was credited with 31 comebacks by Colts media guides, but they only counted regular-season comebacks, while Elway and Marino both got credit for playoff games. via.

Johnny Unitas also rocked a flattop haircut that was so badass that it’s still being duplicated today. Granted, the only place that’s happening is at WNBA games, but it’s still a sports staple nonetheless. It’s a haircut AND it’s a place to set your drink. Just make sure you use a coaster.

West Ham = St. Louis

How much would you pay for a license plate honoring your favorite soccer team

Fans of east London club West Ham set a new record price of 57,000 pounds for a football-related vehicle license plate on Friday as they outbid each other for plate number WE57 HAM . . . "The atmosphere in the auction room was electric — it was like a cup final," said Damian Lawson, Marketing Manager for Driving and Vehicle Licensing Agency Personalized Registrations.

57,000 pounds sterling?!?  That's over $115,000 in the good old greenback.  I suppose it's a small price to pay to show fellow motorists on the roundabout your undying allegiance to the East End club.  Too bad they won't even notice, as they'll be too busy trying trying to drive on the wrong side of the road.

The price dwarfed the previous record of 36,000 pounds set in 2004 for plate number AR53 NAL (Arsenal).

So I guess '3's are some kind of crazy British backward 'E's.  And '7's are 'T's.  Those crazy Limeys think they can spell anyway they want.  Well listen up UK: there's no 'U' in 'color' or 'favorite' and the element with atomic number 13 is 'aluminum'! -KD
