The Anaheim Ducks Social Media Night Flash Mob, Or ‘Flash Mobs Are The Worst Thing’

Written by Brandon Stroud / 04.04.13

The top comment for this video says it all:

I was sitting.

.lookin up at Honda vision…and I saw the girl dancing…thought process…”oh wow…she really likes this song…..WWWHHHHAAAAAAAATTT IS THIS?!?!?!?!…THIS IS AWWWWEEEEEEESOME!!!!!!!!!!”

NEVER seen anything like it at a ducks game. Legit. PROPS

I try not to be judgmental about wacky stuff like this on With Leather. We in the blogging community are quick to get heated about unimportant stuff like commercials or memes or the tiredness of memes that’ve been done for more than 30 minutes. With me, if you wanna do parkour over a police officer or whatever to get famous on the Internet, hey, parkour your heart out. If you want to make “One Does Not Simply ____” jokes several years too late, that’s your prerogative. It’s not my place to judge.

That said, if you enjoy or participate in flash mobs I hate you and you should die for real. This is not a joke. I will fight you in real life. I think Flash Mobs are probably the worst thing, worse than world hunger, worse than prejudice and sadness and black licorice. It’s like somebody watched Usher’s scene in She’s All That and thought, “hey, let’s do this in real life.” It makes me so mad I just flipped my desk.

Besides, “Social Media Night” should just be about getting into the building anonymously and telling the Ducks how shitty they are for trying to play sports.

Happy April Fools Day, Don’t Believe Anything You Read On The Internet Today

Written by Brandon Stroud / 04.01.13

Here’s Montreal Canadiens rookie Nathan Beaulieu skating a solemn lap by himself while his team stands back and chuckles at him, helpfully reminding us that you shouldn’t believe anything you read, see, or someone tells you from yesterday morning until like, tomorrow evening. April Fools Day is the worst, and no matter how cool an idea sounds today, let somebody ELSE lead the team out onto the ice. (via IASID)

Important Sports News: Mr. T Scored A Goal At A Chicago Blackhawks Game

Written by Brandon Stroud / 03.27.13

Well, during intermission, but still, here’s Mr. T shooting a hockey goal. That’s the kind of thing you share with others. Oh, and he said something about how he pitied the puck, but you probably already psychically new that. (via SBN)

The Buffalo Sabres Fire Sale, Now With Tons Of Screaming

Written by Brandon Stroud / 03.21.13

Buffalo Sabres Fire SaleWednesday Wednesday Wednesday (April 3)!

The Buffalo Sabres are horrible and EVERYBODY IS AVAILABLE at the trade deadline. Once in a lifetime liquidation event… Everything MUST GO!

I’m thinking about picking up Tyler Ennis in this sale. I mean, I don’t have a hockey team or anything, but it’d be nice to have him around the house. Maybe he can clean my windows. Do you think they’re selling $20 digital cameras, too?

Katy Perry Makes The NHL More Exciting

Written by Ashley Burns / 03.11.13

Last week, ESPN finally gave the NHL some much-needed coverage, except that it wasn’t good coverage and it involved Stephen A. Smith pretending to be an expert on something that he knows nothing about. Basically, Screamin’ A wrongly compared the Chicago Blackhawks’ incredible points streak to the Miami Heat’s winning streak, which would be like me comparing Kate Upton’s breast size to Stacy Keibler’s legs, in that they’re both incredible and worthy of discussion but they have absolutely nothing to do with each other.

But whether ESPN was using SAS to further the network’s anti-NHL agenda or it was just a drive-by nut punch to a sport that desperately needs better ratings, it got us talking about hockey for at least a few minutes. I’ve long argued*, though, that the NHL needs to add some serious star power if it wants to re-emerge as one of America’s premier sports, and the league should be showcasing celebrity fans like Paulina Gretzky, Carrie Underwood, Elisha Cuthbert and Hillary Duff, among others, in order to bring more fans around.

And now we can add Katy Perry to that list since she’s suddenly a big Los Angeles Kings fan.

With Leather’s Watch This: At Least The Toronto Raptors Have Rachel McAdams

Written by Ashley Burns / 02.26.13

At 23-34, the Toronto Raptors aren’t having a great season, by any means, but they’re still only 4.5 games out of the 8th playoff spot in the mostly terrible NBA Eastern Conference. Despite the lingering possibility of playoff hopes, Raptors fans shouldn’t get too excited about basketball in late April, so they should just be happy that Rachel McAdams was on hand to watch the Raptors lose to the 18-37 Washington Wizards last night.

I don’t mean to be a dick to Toronto fans, though, but I think the NBA should imply new rules about the attractiveness of female celebrities at courtside. Like, the Raptors aren’t the worst team in the NBA, but they don’t deserve McAdams. Maybe Avril Lavigne.

Also, Selena Gomez can’t sit courtside for Lakers games until they’re at least in a playoff spot. Until then, the Lakers can only have Amanda Bynes. And Kirstie Alley will sit next to me at Magic games. I think I’m on to something here.
