Tuh-Tuh-Tuh TODAY JUNIOR

Written by Brandon Stroud / 08.30.12

referee_stutter_failBeing an NFL replacement ref is easy, right? You just know a lot about football, learn what all the hand gestures mean and speak clearly into a microphone for what, ten seconds at a time?

Meet Don King, a guy who lucked into a scab position and should be BORN to talk, because his name is f**king “Don King”. Don had a little trouble spitting it out during the second quarter of Wednesday night’s Patriots-Giants preseason game, and if the embarrassment of having a stadium full of people boo you for being terrible isn’t enough, he’ll have the televised broadcast full of pro football players laughing at him to make it as bad as possible. Ugh, look at his poor mouth. It looks like an asshole.

Why was he so shaken up, you think? It could be because of this:

People Are Really Freaking Out About This New York Giants ‘Hazing’ Video

Written by Ashley Burns / 08.20.12

It's grainy because it's so scandalous.

When I saw a bunch of people Tweeting about New York Giants punter Steve Weatherford this morning, my first thought was, “Sloooooooooooow news day.” Or maybe he was abducted by intergalactic talking raccoons, in which case, awesome! And now that I know why people are buzzing about him, I think he’d probably prefer that some spaceships came and scooped him up.

It turns out that Weatherford Tweeted a video of his teammate Jason Pierre-Paul taking part in a little rookie hazing of Prince Amukamara, as he threw him in a tub of ice water after Saturday’s preseason game. And then the angels opened up the fiery gates of Hell and all overreaction broke loose. Yes, my friends, it’s true – NFL players haze rookies. Go ahead and turn off the planet, nothing is sacred anymore.

What do you have to say for yourself, punter?

“I want to apologize to the fans,” Weatherford said on Twitter. “The video I posted was distasteful. Our team is a family, and we love each other. I am sorry to the fans.” (Via The Victory Formation)

I can understand if people are upset about this kind of roughhousing because Amukamara could have been hurt. Otherwise, what’s the big deal? Dudes f*ck with each other. Hell, I’ll give JPP credit for doing something this tame, when we still see teammates in every sport resorting to homophobic tactics like dressing their teammates up as fairies or shaving dicks in their hair. But then, I’m an optimist and I’ll always be the first to say: “Bro, it could be worse.”

Alas, we’re in full damage control mode now.

Pepsi And The NFL Are Giving Some Teams New Theme Songs

Written by Ashley Burns / 08.14.12

The marketing gurus at Pepsi have teamed up with the NFL to create 5 new NFL team anthems by pairing franchises with their biggest pop star fans, and Dallas Cowboys fans are first up with Kelly Clarkson’s new single, “Get Up”. The Texas native and American Idol winner is famously a fan of America’s Former Team, and that must be comforting for her fellow Cowboys fans as they watched their team herp and derp to a 3-0 preseason loss win to the Oakland Raiders last night.

But preseason jitters aside, Clarkson is excited about her team’s chances this season, so she wants you to picture one thing and one thing only when you listen to her new jam – her mother giving birth.

“When you’re born in Fort Worth, you come out of the womb loving the Cowboys,” she says. “In Texas, people love football more than anything. Once they find out about this, I’ll be golden.” (Via USA Today)

And don’t worry, folks, Clarkson didn’t want this to be a friendly little PR stunt. She also wanted to do her part in crapping all over the team’s rivals.

The team is simply iconic, she says. “People overseas know the Dallas Cowboys. They don’t know the Denver Broncos or the Philadelphia Eagles. The Dallas cheerleaders are more famous than some of the NFL teams. I know I sound biased.”

I really wish she said the New York Giants instead of the Denver Broncos, because then ESPN could devote hours of coverage to analyzing what the star of From Justin to Kelly means when she says the Eagles aren’t known overseas. “With more on this developing story, we take you to Ron Jaworski having a stroke,” an anchor would say while I made fart noises with my hands.

Clarkson’s Cowboys anthem is joined by Tavie McCoy’s “All In” anthem for the New York Giants, as well as yet-to-be-announced instant classics by Kid Rock (Detroit Lions) and Ice Cube (Oakland Raiders). Also, Wiz Khalifa’s “Black and Yellow” will be remixed, because someone got lazy toward the end of planning this.

After the jump, check out Clarkson’s “Get Up”.

This Week In Original Etsy Sports Merchandise

Written by Ashley Burns / 06.15.12

In what has quickly become my favorite With Leather-inspired hobby yet – not counting dumpster diving outside Kate Upton’s apartment – I tried to broaden the horizon of TWiOESM by including a little bit of everything. Originally, I wanted to make this all about the Los Angeles Kings winning the Stanley Cup and the Miami Heat and Oklahoma City Thunder battling for the O’Brien Trophy, but that’s not fair to the rest of you that need pictures of WWF wrestlers printed on dictionary pages.

Speaking of, I received my Ultimate Warrior dictionary pages in the mail this week and they are pretty much the coolest thing I’ve ever spent $5 on. Needless to say, I’ve got my eyes on a few new things this week, starting with one of my all-time favorites – Legos.

Osi Umenyiora, LeSean McCoy Still Feuding

Written by Ashley Burns / 05.14.12

Last summer, as the majority of NFL players were worried about whether or not they’d be able to pay for their Internet bills, Philadelphia Eagles running back LeSean McCoy took a shot at New York Giants DE Osi Umenyiora on Twitter, calling him soft and overrated. Umenyiora then called McCoy a “Twitter gangster” and referred to him as “she” in all interviews because only girls start feuds with each other on Twitter. Fair enough.

So, um, how was your weekend, Mrs. Umenyiora?

Umenyiora has been the subject of various trade rumors this offseason, and he openly declared his discontent with the organization for only offering him an extension worth half as much as what they gave Mathias Kiwanuka. Whether or not that will be rectified has yet to be seen, so I suppose boredom is the reason that Umenyiora is poking the ringless McCoy with his Lombardi stick.

At least McCoy seems to have a sense of humor about it…
