Not Hated Enough, Duke Basketball Fans May Have Reminded America Why They’re Awful

Written by Ashley Burns / 02.08.13

Duke fans, beloved by everyone.

I was thinking just the other day that while this NCAA men’s basketball season had been pretty exciting, what with No. 1 teams dropping like flies each week, what we really need is a good scandal to besmirch one of the most successful teams in college hoops history. If only a certain rabid fan base that is widely viewed as a legion of self-entitled rich kids would step forward and reclaim its crown as the nastiest of the nastiest.

What’s that, Duke’s Cameron Crazies? You say you’re ready to do just that? Well, you’re going to have to convince me of that.

Damn. That’s messed up if it’s true. Fortunately, aside from writing inflammatory titles to posts so people get sucked it by irrational rage, I’m a pretty fair and balanced bro, so I want to take a look at some video first before I lay down my hammer of ultimate galactic justice.

That’s A Dead Meme, Bro

Written by Brandon Stroud / 07.20.12

Clown Question Bro NC StateOn June 12, Washington Nationals rookie outfielder Bryce Harper responded to a reporter’s inquiry about whether or not he’d be having a “celebratory Canadian beer” with the immortal phrase, “That’s a clown question, bro”. By the morning of June 13, the Internet had beaten the joke into the ground, attributing Clown Question Bro status to everything from ICP to Pagliacci. You can find some of the best of those tweets here.

NC State head coach Tom O’Brien is still living in the morning of June 13.

Tom O’Brien, the North Carolina State Head Coach, tried to seem hip with the times at a function and used the Washington National’s Bryce Harper line “That’s a clown question, bro”. This came from a interview with Bryce Harper where a reporter asked Harper a question he did not like.

As Throw The Flag points out, it’s pretty surprising that O’Brien even knows who Bryce Harper is. His audience didn’t seem to. Well, besides that one guy who goes HENNHHHHH right before the clip stops. That guy got it HARD.

Less “clown question, bro”, more “those three things are going to carry on forever”, please.

The With Leather March Madness Dummy’s Guide To Watching The Sweet 16 Pt. 2

Written by Ashley Burns / 03.23.12

Welcome back, everyone. I hope you enjoyed last night’s first installment of the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 and our Dummy’s Guide to sounding somewhat intelligent in the company of people who watch more college basketball than you. I went 2-for-4 with my picks from last night, as Syracuse and Florida won their games and Cincinnati and Michigan State really took massive horse dumps in their respective matchups. But I also technically rode the fence on each game enough that I can say I was 4-for-4.

What can I say, I’m an expert.

We’re back at it tonight, and I know it’s a Friday and all, but I’ll still be live chatting the action up from the handy dandy portable intelligent telephone. I’ll be at the Orlando Magic game, per the usual, which will make it all more fun. Make your predictions, quips and witticisms in the comments and there will be free t-shirts and possibly other surprises to be given out.

Admit it, you’re excited.

Hey Jenn Brown, That Wasn’t Very Nice

Written by Ashley Burns / 09.23.11

ESPN college football sideline reporter Jenn Brown took her extra N to the University of Cincinnati’s Nippert Stadium last night as the Bearcats took on N.C. State for some hot Thursday night action. Chances are that you were frozen in terror or confusion while watching “Whitney” on NBC, but if not you probably caught Brown’s tiny faux pas in the third quarter, as she accidentally called Cincinnati’s coach, Butch Jones, “Bitch.”

A mistake? Absolutely. But she quickly corrected herself and moved on like the consummate professional that she is, and she even recognized her mistake on Twitter, which means that the whole situation is resolved. After all, it’s not like she said, “Sh*t” on Monday Night Football and just kept guffawing along about quarterbacks. I guess what I’m trying to say is that Brown is more attractive than Ron Jaworski.

Video and apology after the jump.

THAT COACH’S MEMORIAL NEEDED A ‘STACHE

Written by JOSH Z / 02.02.09

Away from all the Super Bowl hoopla in Tampa comes a more lighthearted story about a dead basketball coach and the vandalism of a memorial to her. Yes, the victim is a woman, so put on your laughing pants.

A mural in N.C. State University’s Free Expression Tunnel to honor women’s basketball coach Kay Yow, who died Jan. 24 after a long struggle with breast cancer, was defaced Saturday with blue paint and offensive language.

A blue mustache and the phrase “cancer rules” were added to the painting [not actually pictured], which shows a portrait of Yow against a pink background. The graffiti was removed and the mural restored by early Sunday morning, but the incident did not sit well with students.

Aw, crap, I forgot to make the background pink. Hey, wait a second, I thought pink was just for cancer survivors. Now I’m somewhat relieved that a kind soul took some initiative to correct it. Even though defacing a memorial to someone that only left this earth a week ago is probably the most cowardly thing ever.

Ironically enough, the mural is situated in the Free Expression Tunnel. Mission accomplished, I’d say.
