With Leather’s Watch This: Rob Delaney Sang The National Anthem At A Dodgers Game

Written by Ashley Burns / 04.29.13

That wasn’t the best National Anthem I’ve ever heard, but it certainly wasn’t the worst or even what I expected from a comedian like Rob Delaney. Delaney performed the National Anthem at a Los Angeles Dodgers game after he teased it on Twitter and most people thought he was joking. But sure enough it happened. So what was I expecting? I don’t know, maybe an Enrico Palazzo or a rendition using only mouth farts.

That doesn’t mean I don’t want someone to perform a mouth fart version of the Star-Spangled Banner. In fact, it would be awesome if it was a young girl or basically someone that you’d never expect it from. Like, even if one of those fat opera dudes came out, I’d probably think, “There’s a 25% chance that this guy mouth farts the National Anthem”. But if a sheepish elementary school girl walked out with her parents and she was too nervous to start and her mom was like, “It’s okay, honey, go ahead” and then she like *FART NOISE*… that would be AWESOME.

Baseball Comes Back To Fenway, David Ortiz Declares Boston “Our F**king City”

Written by Brandon Stroud / 04.20.13

Without the stars, of course.

Today’s been an emotional one at Fenway Park. The Boston Bruins-style “everybody sings our national anthem in unison” moment has officially become a Boston staple. Pat-down lines were endless. Tears were non-stop. At the perfect moment, David Ortiz dropped the mother of all f-bombs, and baseball helped do what it always does: makes us feel better about the stupid shit in our lives that isn’t baseball.

GO BOSTON

Written by Ashley Burns / 04.18.13

So yesterday, I was all, “Wow, did you guys see those baseball teams and especially the New York Yankees and Milwaukee Brewers being so awesome by playing Sweet Caroline and the Cheers theme to honor the people of Boston in the wake of the Boston Marathon bombing?” And people were all, “Yeah, that was awesome, nothing will ever top that!” Then we all cyber-bro-hugged for world peace and called it a day, right?

Well, last night, the Boston Bruins were like, “That was pretty cool, baseball, but we’ve got this now” and Rene Rancourt took the ice to sing the National Anthem before the Bruins took on the Buffalo Sabres. About 15 seconds in, Rancourt signaled the crowd and he put the mic down to let the Boston faithful do the rest.

It’s moments like this that truly make sports such an important reminder that humanity exists. It may be under attack, but humanity is still alive and well within most of us.

Bob Saget Named ‘Princess For The Day’ At Chicago White Sox Game

Written by Brandon Stroud / 05.28.12

It was a real Tanner Family Fun Day at U.S. Cellular Field on Saturday — the Chicago White Sox defeated the Cleveland Indians 14-7, and television’s Bob Saget sang the Star-Spangled Banner. You may remember Bob from such creative endeavors as ‘Full House’, ‘America’s Funniest Home Videos’ and spending the last 20 years trying to convince people he wasn’t the Danny Tanner motherf**ker who headlined both.

Bob did an admirable job with Our National Anthem (and on Memorial Day, I wouldn’t want to share it with you if he hadn’t), but the best part of the video is Saget being announced as “stand-up comedian, director, actor AND singer”. They left off “former CHIKARA pro wrestling commissioner”. Also, singer? If they’re advertising him as a singer he should’ve gotten up and done this in its entirety:

The Cubs Are So Lucky To Have Bill Murray

Written by Ashley Burns / 04.06.12

As a St. Louis Cardinals fan, I’m generally regarded as more intelligent and classy than other baseball fans, but I also have a heightened ability to identify which celebrities are better for teams than others. For instance, the Cardinals have Jon Hamm, Billy Bob Thornton and myself. That’s not a bad little group right there. But I’d trade almost anyone in a heartbeat to steal away the Chicago Cubs’ biggest fan, Bill Murray. Seriously, he’s so awesome as a fan that it almost makes us forget that Jeremy Piven is also a huge Cubby. Almost.

I watched all of yesterday’s 2-1 Cubs loss to the Washington Nationals – who have no celebrity fans, mind you – and Murray not only threw out the first pitch in his classic, hilarious fashion, but he also sang “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” with Big Head Todd, and then he stuck around to provide color commentary through the bottom half of the 7th. Even as Kerry Wood began blowing the game for the Cubs, Murray’s A-game was good enough to cushion the blow of a bad start to 2012.

And he’s been there the whole time, as evidenced by a little gem I dug up after the jump.
