This Little Girl Knows Who Thurman Munson Is, Can Recite The Retired Yankees Numbers

Written by Brandon Stroud / 05.09.13

little kid Yankees HistoryThis is C.C. She’s a year and a half old. She can recite the retired numbers for the New York Yankees.

Okay, so she has a little help, but f**k you, she’s not even two. I’m a grown-up with a sports blog and I can’t recite the Cleveland Indians retired numbers without facepalming for five minutes. YOU try remembering Mel Harder! Anyway, C.C. (who shares a name with a Yankee, and is very excited about that fact) is adorable, thinks her daddy is the team captain of the New York Yankees and does a pretty-okay job of spitting out “Mattingly.”

YouTube user KylePMore sums up the clip nicely:

With Leather’s Watch This: Here’s The Worst Song You’ve Ever Heard. Ever.

Written by Ashley Burns / 05.08.13

I was going to post that new TV commercial from Morgan & Morgan asking the Jacksonville Jaguars to sign Tim Tebow, but I knew that our beloved NFL expert Christmas Ape would be all over it. If you live outside of Central Florida, John Morgan’s ads are quite famous for the serious-yet-familiar tone, as he is one of the more famous faces in Orlando and beyond.

Instead, I forgot that I hadn’t done anything with this amazing music video that my Twitter friend Dan brought to my attention the other day. It has jumped more than 300,000 views since I first saw it and rightfully so. It’s also apparently based on a delightful true story (read here and here, from the bottom up). I hope that this isn’t the last that we’ve heard from Miss Wolf.

The Fernando Tatis Art Gallery Is Amazing

Written by Ashley Burns / 05.08.13

Former Major Leaguer Fernando Tatis is quietly one of the best follows on Twitter. While a lot of baseball writers and fans in general – perhaps 2,797 of them – are familiar with his quirky Twitter habits, like his harmless trash-talking at Chan Ho Park that some people took a little too seriously, many people are missing out on Fernando’s new career as an MS Paint artist. Eat your heart out, Danger Guerrero.

As I’d seen his incredible work before, Fernando’s art was nothing new to me, but I was reminded of the combination of his exceptional talent and kind-hearted nature yesterday, when he had this pleasant exchange with a fan…

Girls Generation Is Still Terrible At First Pitches

Written by Brandon Stroud / 05.08.13

Tiffany Hwang

As an unapologetic stan for The Wonder Girls, I like to throw shade at Girls Generation whenever I can. Last year, I got my first opportunity to turn a sports comedy blog into a Korean teenager’s Tumblr when Jessica Jung wound up for a dramatic first pitch and got it about four inches before it hit dirt. I laughed and laughed, and took joy in the momentary failure of a rich pretty lady who probably didn’t give a shit.

Fast forward a year and history is repeating itself.

Tiffany Hwang of Girls’ Generation was tasked with throwing out the first pitch at Monday’s Los Angeles Dodgers/Arizona Diamondbacks game. She wore cat ears. She had a dramatic wind-up, just like Jessica Jung. She impressed the crowd by firing in a strike, and hahahaha no she didn’t. Here’s the clip:

With Leather’s Watch This: Screw Your Pizza, A Man Must Watch His Playoff Hockey

Written by Ashley Burns / 05.06.13

The above image of a pizza order was posted to Reddit over the weekend, as a Vancouver Canucks fan ordered his tropical chicken pizza for pickup on Friday night, presumably at the start of the third period, when Vancouver was trailing the San Jose Sharks 1-0. But Ryan Kesler tied the game within the first minute of the period, and that customer’s order quickly changed to delivery. Seven minutes later, the pizza seemingly became a hockey celebration prize, as the Canucks went up 2-1. Then it became an overtime feast when the Sharks tied the game at 2 late in the third. Finally, it became a feast of depression, as the Canucks lost 3-2 in overtime.

While I certainly feel for this fan… who eats chicken on a pizza? Gross, bros.

The McCovey Cove Hot Dog Kayak Is The Most American Thing Ever

Written by Ashley Burns / 05.06.13

The World Series Champion San Francisco Giants are one of the hottest teams in all of baseball today, as they defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 4-3 yesterday to complete a three-game sweep of their rivals and reclaim a one-game lead over the Colorado Rockies in the National League West. But while people across America were donning sombreros, serapes and fake mustaches as they chugged overpriced Coronas and licked Sauza out of the navels of sweaty coeds, all in the name of a holiday that nobody really understands, the Giants and ESPN were reclaiming May 5 for America.

A gentleman named London Van Der Kamp took to a kayak in San Francisco’s famed McCovey Cove and he rowed from person to person, awarding free hot dogs to the fans in water. Judging by the photos, Van Der Kamp gave away a total of two hot dogs, maybe four if he was being generous, but it’s still the thought that counts.

It’s certainly better than the most recent giveaway at Marlins Park, which offered fans the chance to pay the stadium’s utility bills.
