The Best And Very, Very Worst Of Vintage WCW Promo Photos – Part 1

Written by Brandon Stroud / 01.14.13

WCW Promo Photos Macho Man

Update: Part 2 is now up. Check it out!

Back in September, we shared A Golden Treasury Of Cheesy Late-80s/Early-90s WWF Promo Photos, a collection of the best photos from pro wrestler 8x10s. If you missed that … yeah, you should click the link.

Anyway, I was never a WWF kid when I was growing up. I was born in southern Virginia and was raised on the National Wrestling Alliance — if you’re a WWF lifer, that means we had Ric Flair when you had Hulk Hogan — and eventually what the NWA became, World Championship Wrestling. You may remember WCW from its sudden, crazy popularity in the late 1990s when Hulk Hogan became a bad guy, Sting became The Crow and WWF put as many curse words and dick jokes on television as they could to combat it. Spoiler: the dick jokes won.

That said, WCW is still my favorite thing, and if I’m going to share the worst of WWF’s promo photos, I might as well dip into the endless well of embarrassment that is the WCW library. What follows is only part one of a series, because holy shit you will not believe some of these pictures.

Enjoy, and show this to everyone you’ve ever known.

Sports On TV: Boy Meets World’s 20 Greatest Sports Moments

Written by Brandon Stroud / 11.21.12

Boy Meets World Sports

This week’s Sports On TV covers another show people have been requesting since the column’s inception: ‘Boy Meets World,’ the long-running TGIF staple that asked, “if Fred Savage can have a successful television show, shouldn’t his little brother have one as well?”

‘Boy Meets World’ ran for seven seasons from 1993 to 2000 on ABC, and now’s a better time than ever to look back on the show’s 158 episodes. Why? Take it away, Wikipedia!

n November 2012 it was reported that Disney Channel is in the early stages of development of a follow-up series titled ‘Girl Meets World,’ which will center around Cory and Topanga’s 13-year-old daughter. Boy Meets World co-creator Michael Jacobs will develop the series and serve as its executive producer and showrunner. It is yet unknown if any of the original actors will return if the series gets a pilot order or is greenlit as a series, although Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel are in talks to reprise their characters.

If that news excites you or a 12-year old in your household, you’re going to love this column. If you’ve never seen ‘Boy Meets World’ and don’t know what it has to do with sports, what’re you, new? Here’s a sneak preview of what’s inside: Olympic athletes, WWF wrestlers, at least six dozen people you’ll recognize from currently-popular TV shows and at least one insane, weird man dressed as Lance Armstrong. Enjoy.

Best And Worst Of WWE Survivor Series 2012 By Dan ‘Soupy’ Campbell

Written by Dan Campbell / 11.19.12

Ryback Ambrose Rollins Reigns

Pre-show editor’s notes:

- Brandon here. This is one of the cooler things I’ve gotten to do so far as the EIC (or COO, whatever) of With Leather. Soupy’s doing me a great favor by stepping in and covering the Best And Worst Of Survivor Series, so show him the most ever love so he’ll consider coming back.

- Follow us on Twitter @withleather, follow me personally @MrBrandonStroud and like us on Facebook. Follow Dan at @headabovewater and The Wonder Years at @twypoppunk . I put those links at the end because he’s already got a billion more followers than me.

- If you’re new here and just stopping by to read the guy from your favorite band’s wrestling column, consider stopping back by on Mondays and occasional Sundays for our open discussion threads, and on Tuesdays for the Best And Worst Of Raw. It got a shout-out at a TWY concert, so it is band-approved.

For further proof of street cred, here are two guys who dressed up as Daniel Bryan for Halloween:

WWE Survivor Series 2012 Predictions, Jorts Jokes And Open Discussion Thread

Written by Brandon Stroud / 11.18.12
WWE Survivor Series 2012 open discussion thread

Other than "anyone who convinces the ref to punch Ryback in the dick," I guess?

I thought we’d try something a little different with this month’s pay-per-view open discussion thread.

WWE Survivor Series 2012 takes place live, this Sunday night at 8 PM EST, and as always, the With Leather wrestling community will be on hand to make the snarky, esoteric jokes you’ll want to share with friends and pretend you made up. The pre-show (featuring a tag team match!) begins at 7:30 EST on WWE’s YouTube channel, and our stuff begins … well, as soon as you drop down into the comments and start nesting.

The card, as we know it:

Pre-show Match: Justin Gabriel & Tyson Kidd vs. Two Members Of 3MB (Heath Slater, Jinder Mahal and Drew McIntyre)

1. World Heavyweight Championship Match: The Big Show (c) vs. Sheamus

2. Triple Threat Match For The WWE Championship: CM Punk (c) vs. John Cena vs. Ryback

3. Divas Championship Match: Eve Torres (c) vs. Kaitlyn

4. United States Championship Match: Antonio Cesaro (c) vs. R-Truth

5. Team Ziggler (Dolph Ziggler, Damien Sandow, Cody Rhodes, Wade Barrett and Alberto Del Rio vs. Team Foley (The Miz, Kofi Kingston, Kane, Daniel Bryan and Randy Orton) with Mick Foley

My predictions for the show are below. Be sure to let me know what you think will go down, and also how mad you’d be if they actually let Truth pin Cesaro. The only answer I’ll accept: EXTREMELY F**KING MAD.
