Two nights ago, after the Miami Heat lost a third straight game to the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference Finals, the Internet was introduced to its newest star – The “Good Job, Good Effort” Kid. We didn’t know much about this young lad, other than he didn’t really understand the enormity of Game 5 and that he has the oblivious enthusiasm of Kenneth from 30 Rock. Either way, people loved hearing him shout that losing effort battle cry as LeBron James and Dwyane Wade sulked off the court.

And thank goodness Ihosvani Rodriguez of the Sun Sentinel still has that investigatory urge, because the aftermath of “Good Job, Good Effort” was a vulture-like corpse cleaning of Internet tough guys fighting over who ran the phrase to Custom Ink the fastest. Rordriguez discovered the true identity of the young boy, and got to the bottom of his enthusiasm. Was it sincere or was it trolling?

“For those people who thought I was being sarcastic, you’re wrong,” [9-year old Jack] Meyer said at his family’s Coral Gables home Wednesday. “I was being enthusiastic. I was saying the truth. I would never hurt the Heat’s feelings like that.”

“Based on their expressions, they didn’t seem happy being beaten by four points. I wanted to cheer them up,” he said. “I really meant it.”

Good lord, that’s adorably refreshing. Granted, I doubt James, Wade, or any Heat fan feels that way, but it’s still a little heartwarming once the laughter subsides.

Of course, as we all know, memes die like matches in the wind these days, so his fame should be expiring as soon as the ECF ends, whether tonight or after a thrilling Game 7, like my gut tells me. Regardless, I can only hope Jack carries his enthusiasm over into next season after the Heat either trade one of the Big 3 or allow Wade to continue his downward spiral into the angriest man on the planet.

There isn’t much to do when you’re the creative director of a Madden game (“okay, this year I think we’re gonna make it look like football”), so EA Sports’ Mike Young has spent the last few weeks tweeting about the amazing new features set to debut in Madden NFL 13, such as Tim Tebow being able to Tebow.

Still no word on whether or not planking and Batmanning will make the cut, but earlier today @EAMaddenNFL dropped the first official image of Tim Tebow Tebowing in a New York Jets uniform in the end zone at MetLife. If you were gonna get excited about this at some point, now’s your chance.

As Weed over at Sportress notes, being able to Tebow won’t matter if you can’t assign the pose to whichever linebacker murders him. Or the ability to Tebow via Kinect. Maybe the Wii version will have a mini-game where you run to the 50 yard line and do it, who knows.

This is basically what I look like when I’m watching ‘The Wire’. Somebody draw this guy a warm bath for Christ’s sake. (via Awful Announcing)

While there’s nothing better than someone becoming aware of their own meme and embracing it, I’m sad to say that I am the bearer of bad news today. The above image popped up on Imgur, Memebase and a few other sites yesterday and most people were all like, “Oh snap, Yao Ming has embraced his trollface meme.” I only wish that were the case. Using my keen CSI investigating, it’s pretty easy to tell that it’s just a photoshop, much to the disappointment of every website’s commenters asking, “LOL IZ THIS REELZ?”

It’s even easier if you also know that the photoshop is one of several created by Le Rage Shirts. Trust me, I wanted this to be real, too.

As with most memes, the Yao Ming trollface – or “Bitch Please” or “F*CK IT” – debuted on Reddit a year or so ago after a rather amusing postgame interview featuring Yao and Metta World Peace, then known as Ron Artest. This trip down memory lane has been brought to you by Yao Ming with a panda bear, still the most adorable picture we’ve ever posted.
