Matt Cain Busted The Myth That He Couldn’t Ruin A Pizza With Baseball

Written by Brandon Stroud / 10.22.12

Tory Belleci and Kari Byron from Mythbusters host this video of Matt Cain of the San Francisco Giants showing off his legendary throwing arm by rocketing a baseball through various objects thrown up in the air!

Matt Cain MythbustersBefore you say it, yes, this clip is fake enough to have ended with a Powerade logo. What myth are they busting? Is “Matt Cain can’t hit a watermelon with a fastball if somebody threw it in the air” a myth? Regardless, ‘Evan Longoria Saves Reporter’ set a dangerous precedent for what people on the Internet will accept as real, so until Prince Fielder shows up riding a minotaur or whatever, just roll with it.

The only really terrible part of the clip is Tory Belleci. He has clearly never watched baseball before. He intros Cain like he’s in a local band (“We’re here with Matt Cain, the pitcher for San Francisco Giants”) and gets way, way too excited about everything. If Cain could hit a soda bottle, why are you losing your mind over him clipping a watermelon? Also, why do you make a weird blowjob face when you’re impressed? There are children present. “This guy should host something on television” is the only myth I need to see busted.

I really want to see them do a video like this now with Justin Masterson, where a kid tosses a deep dish pizza into the air and gets drilled in the face by a 72 mph fastball.

The Dugout: Matt Cain’s Perfect Game

Written by Brandon Stroud / 06.14.12

matt-cain-perfect-game

Last night, San Francisco Giants pitcher Matt Cain threw a perfect game. The 10-0 victory over the Houston Astros was the first perfect game in Giants franchise history and only the 22nd in Major League Baseball history. Some are calling it the greatest game ever pitched.

Cain, the longest-tenured Giant, has been through it all in his eight seasons in San Francisco. He has seen highs — a World Series title in 2010 — and lows — dozens of losses on nights when he was brilliant.

Through it all, Cain has been unflappable, but that trait never has been tested as it was Wednesday night.

“There’s really nothing like it,” said Cain, who previously had taken five no-hitters into the seventh inning and had a perfect game into the sixth inning of his second start this season.

“I was having to recheck myself to see the signs that Buster (Posey) was putting down. I was thinking about it. It felt like it was the World Series, but it almost felt a little louder.” (via Mercury News)

Cain’s special night is the feature of today’s Dugout, after the jump.

For Just $20 Million, You Can Own Your Favorite Baseball Player’s House

Written by Ashley Burns / 02.17.12

Here’s a fun little factoid for you crazy sports fans out there: athletes tend to buy really expensive houses. Who would have thunk it, right? Well it turns out that in a lot of cases, when athletes retire or change teams, they sell those houses and then people have an opportunity to take a look inside and see how the 1% really lives. And I’m almost always disappointed by the lack of bearsharktopus cages. Step your game up, so-called ballers.

Yesterday, the Cookie Kwans at Realtor.com posted some of the latest listings of current and former Major League Baseball players, and while there wasn’t anything too crazy, it was still pretty interesting. For instance, I can’t quite wrap my brain around how a guy could invest a quarter of his 5-year, $80 million salary into a home purchase, but then again nobody has yet to accept my challenge of giving me $80 million just to see how fast I can blow it. Offer still stands, billionaires. Let’s get this done.

Search for your dream home after the jump, you silly cash cows.
