PHILLY IS JUST SEVEN WINS AWAY…

Written by JOSH Z / 10.10.08

Philadelphia might become the new Boston before any of us realize it, as the Phillies managed to wrangle the seemingly unstoppable Los Angeles Ramirezes in Game One of the NLCS last night. The final score was 3-2, but the total ramifications of the win have yet to be tallied, as Philadelphia just inched closer to its first major sports championship since 1776, or thereabouts.

The Phils scored all their runs in the 6th inning in a mind-bogglingly efficient attack. I heard of these guys that used to rob restaurants right before they closed for the night, and that’s exactly what Chase Utley and Pat Burrell (pictured) did to Dodgers pitcher Derek Lowe, hitting 2-run and solo home runs, respectively. Lowe was yanked immediately after, and LA never bounced back.

We’ll preview the ALCS later, but Game Two of the NLCS is today. Chad Billingsley will try to punch out the Phils for LA, and Brett Myers will try to not punch out his wife again. First pitch is at 4:35 ET. Anyone that can explain that start time gets a free balloon.

THROAT MEAT TACOS?

Written by Matt / 09.15.08

Dodgers outfielder Andre Ethier is such a foodie that he keeps a blog on mlb.com called Dining with ‘Dre. It’s got all sorts of restaurants reviews with fun insights like:

This isn’t your typical pizzeria…the apps are to die for and don’t disappoint. But first up was the fried squash blossom stuffed with ricotta…one word – UNBELIEVABLE! [...] Next up was Mussel al forno with Calabrian sauce and if you’re a mussel lover like me, then come for these.

Certainly nothing wrong with that.  Who doesn’t love a big mussel with Calabrian sauce, am I right fellas?  No, what troubles me is this quote from the Wall Street Journal: (via Ben Maller):

Mr. Ethier knows where to find the best throat-meat tacos in Los Angeles, the juiciest Salvadoran papusas and the city’s tastiest Romanian chicken stew.

I understand that I’m not a gourmet, but I’m willing to bet a “throat-meat taco” isn’t some kind of culinary delicacy.  I think I know a disgusting Mexican sex act from Urban Dictionary when I see one.

By the way… where CAN I find the best throat-meat taco in Los Angeles?

THE ’86 DODGERS HAD A LOT OF SATIN JACKETS

Written by Matt / 02.26.08

BADASS UPDATE: Thanks to Machochip for uploading the video like a REAL American.

I wanna say one thing before I get to this video, and that thing is this: Hey, people who upload videos onto YouTube then disable the option to embed the video, FUCK YOU.  What makes you so fucking special?  "Oh, my video is too sacred to appear on any other site, la la la, look at me I voted for Nader because I oppose the two-party system."  You're fucking assholes, you know that?  And you're forcing me to learn needlessly complex HTML skills that I'm going to forget in twenty seconds.  Die in a fire.

*exhale*  Much better.  That said, this video is pretty amazing, even if clicking on it sends you over to the YouTube page instead of keeping you in the confines of With Leather's handsome gunmetal and blue borders.  It's the '86 Dodgers rocking out in almost as many satin jackets as a section of Yankee Stadium in April.  There's Orel Hershiser, and, um, that black guy?  Pedro Guerrero, maybe?   I can look at the roster and try to pick out players all I want, but all I can see are those jackets.  They're going to haunt my dreams.  Which is good.  I could use a change from Uncle Larry.

BIG TEN FOOTBALL: IT’S FANTASTIC

Written by Matt / 09.30.07

Well, not really, but at least they have some great hits once in a while.  My head this morning feels a little like Kyle Jefferson's felt after this collision:

Wisconsin ended up defeating the warriors of Leonidas 37-34.  It's comforting to see a ranked team beat an unranked opponent, especially when 7 squads failed to do so yesterday.  Time to liquidate the baseball card collection – act now for reduced rates on Jack McDowell rookie cards. -KD
