Ralph Wilson Stadium, Now In Lego Form

Written by Brandon Stroud / 07.18.12

As a kid who could never get past mindlessly trying to fit as many Legos onto one flat green piece as possible, this is especially impressive. 57-year old Buffalo Bills fan and season ticket holder Robert J. Hall used over 30,000 Legos to create a 20-foot-long, 3-foot-deep Lego replica of Ralph Wilson Stadium, home of the Bills since 1973, with working video display and everything. It’s the kind of endeavor that makes you think “it is marvelous what humanity is capable of” and “hahah what” at the same time.

Creating a masterpiece like this wasn’t easy.

“I was leaning over the corner of the stadium where the M&T Bank sign is trying to place a yard marker on the field, and the plastic stool collapsed,” said Hall. “I fell right into the corner of the stadium and smashed it to smithereens. It pushed the field 2-3 inches forward and the part of the stadium that overhangs the table fell on the ground. I cried.”

Thankfully the project came back together quickly, and until somebody breaks out a Marlins Park made entirely of Duplo this monolithic structure will stand as the best possible sports arena made from children’s toys. My Cowboys Stadium made from Lincoln Logs looks like shit compared to this.

The full tour (courtesy of the official website of the Buffalo Bills, by way of Sportress Of Blogitude) is after the jump. Love, admire, imagine how many crappy looking helicopters you could make with this many Legos.

This Week In Original Etsy Sports Merchandise

Written by Ashley Burns / 06.15.12

In what has quickly become my favorite With Leather-inspired hobby yet – not counting dumpster diving outside Kate Upton’s apartment – I tried to broaden the horizon of TWiOESM by including a little bit of everything. Originally, I wanted to make this all about the Los Angeles Kings winning the Stanley Cup and the Miami Heat and Oklahoma City Thunder battling for the O’Brien Trophy, but that’s not fair to the rest of you that need pictures of WWF wrestlers printed on dictionary pages.

Speaking of, I received my Ultimate Warrior dictionary pages in the mail this week and they are pretty much the coolest thing I’ve ever spent $5 on. Needless to say, I’ve got my eyes on a few new things this week, starting with one of my all-time favorites – Legos.

Dwight Howard Convinced To Stay In Orlando By This Heavily Edited Fan Video

Written by Brandon Stroud / 03.07.12

I don’t know if Ray William Johnson invented that YouTube “edit 3 times in the same sentence so I jump around the screen” thing, but I’m blaming it for him anyway. This video would’ve benefitted from a little “Everybody’s Free (To Wear Sunscreen)”. [via Sportress]

The NBA Finals Done With Legos

Written by Ashley Burns / 06.02.11

Earlier this year, the geniuses at Tauntr celebrated March Madness by recreating some of NCAA basketball’s finest moments with Legos. Imagine my sadness when they didn’t celebrate the women’s tournament with an Easy Bake Oven (*jerks off bat with Gloria Allred*). But they’re back to celebrate the NBA Finals this time with an equally awesome Lego tribute, and I don’t know if it’s my childlike fascination with Legos or my nostalgia for a NBA product that was always enjoyable, even when the league’s greatest player had an absurd gambling problem, but I think these videos are the cat’s pajamas.

But their awesome effort doesn’t just end with some Legos and Michael Jordan shaking and baking (and maybe shoving) Byron Russell. Tauntr has a nice collection of original videos over on their site, and I’ve included a pair of my recent favorites after the jump.
