Get ready for the analytical insight that brought you to a comedy sports blog for your opinions: Cleveland Cavaliers guard Kyrie Irving is really good at basketball.

The real question (because otherwise I won’t have much of a blog post) is whether or not the Fictional Kyrie Irving is better than the real one. Take, for example, the comparison of real and fictional Shawn Bradley. In fiction, he once had his “basketball playing ability” stolen by some aliens. In real life, he never had any basketball playing ability. Clearly, the fictional one is better.

Kyrie helped us out this week by providing two key examples, one from each side of the argument. Representing Fictional Kyrie Irving is ‘Foot Locker Week of Greatness ft Kyrie Irving: 60,’ a commercial where he dunks in slow motion and has time to do everything from gargle mouthwash to read a book and clip his fingernails. Representing Non-Fiction Kyrie Irving is a clip of him dropping a ridiculous behind-the-back bounce pass assist to Anderson Varejao. I can’t decide which one I like more, so I’m leaving it up to you.

Last night marked the beginning of the 2012-13 NBA season, and it started pretty much the same way that I assume next season will begin – with the Miami Heat raising a banner. But I’ll save my season predictions for tomorrow and just stick to the highlights of what we saw in last night’s three games starting with the obvious – Steve Nash, WTF?

The Los Angeles Lakers point guard showed up to the Staples Center looking rather geeked up for his Hollywood debut, and he did not disappoint. Wait, yes he did. In fact, everyone on the Lakers except for Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol disappointed in one way or another. Scores, thoughts and bright, shining moments after the jump.

"Please don't go to Miami."

Pepsi wants us to believe that NBA Rookie of the Year Kyrie Irving dressed up as an old man named “Uncle Drew” to watch his nephew “Kevin” play a game of pick-up basketball for a documentary. Pepsi wants us to believe that at the Clark’s Pond Courts in Bloomfield, NJ, Uncle Drew was called into the game by Kevin to sub for an injured player and everyone was all like, “This guy?” And Pepsi wants us to believe that everyone just stood there and went apesh*t as Uncle Drew took them all to school.

Screw it, I want to believe it, too, because this latest viral sensation is just too awesome not to appreciate. Maybe for the next video Pepsi MAX can dress Kobe Bryant up as an old man and he can walk around a nursing home blaming all of his soiled diapers on everyone else. Come on, you’d buy a soda to watch that.

I’m a big sucker for fan art – well, appropriate fan art – and that’s why I’ve been pounding my desk all morning over the news that the world’s biggest patent troll is going after Etsy’s new $40 million investment. But while soulless thieves are going after the sources of the Internet’s showcases for art and inspiration, they’ll thankfully never be able to crush the actual artists. At least not yet. I’m sure they’ll find a way eventually.

My Internet Artist of the Day of the Week goes to the guys at Double Scribble, a Tumblr site devoted to NBA fan art.

Double Scribble is the lovechild of basketball and art; two of Nick Kastner and Mike McGrath’s favorite things in the world. From the coldest, murkiest depths of Cleveland, OH (and now to some extent, some obscure part of North Carolina) Nick and Mike have forged a blog out of blood, sweat and tears in their unwavering vision to provide you, the viewer, with a never ending source of basketball related art.

And it’s pretty awesome. I’ve been shuffling back and forth through its archives since a friend emailed the link last week and there is just a ton of great artwork on this site that has really inspired me to consider re-launching my web comic series, “The Erotic Adventures of a Sports Blogger.” Spoiler alert: it’s sad and gross.

I took a couple weeks off from doing these here ROFLMNBAO posts for two reasons: 1) because the last two weeks of the season were soooooo boring and B) I forgot. But I figured what better time than now to resume posting these NBA meme pictures since the news that they’re so in demand. Form a line to the left, attractive girls who want to give me money to create ridiculously corny-sounding sites!

Also, I figured it was a better time than any for this week’s installment with the playoffs in full swing and individual awards being presented by the league. As we already know, Tyson Chandler is the Defensive Player of the Year, Jason Kidd received the Sportsmanship Award and Gregg Popovich is the Coach of the Year. “What about the other awards?” you ask while peeling apart the pages of my vintage Hustler collection. The NBA is taking its sweet ass time with those, so I’m issuing my own awards.

A lot happened in this condensed season, so it’s only fair that we recognize everyone for their efforts.

With a surprising and respectable 10-16 record, things aren’t completely terrible for the Cleveland Cavaliers. After all, they could be the Charlotte Bobcats, New Orleans Hornets, Washington Wizards, New Jersey Nets, Detroit Pistons, Toronto Raptors or Sacramento Kings. But with a young team and plenty of potential, raw talent, at least the Cavs still have a good sense of humor.

Last night, Kyrie Irving and some of his teammates treated fans to a very special Valentine’s Day video, as they sang “Our Fans” to the tune of “My Girl.” I can’t decide which of Irving’s teammates made me laugh the hardest between Tristan Thompson’s expressions and Samardo Samuels’ horrific effort. But I’d kill to have Semih Erden on my team, just so he could record a different video for every home game. He’s almost good enough to make the hurt of being terrible subside.
