CRAIG BELLAMY HATES YOUR FACE

Written by JOSH Z / 09.21.09

Seriously, I love British people. But this Craig Bellamy from Manchester City is just a little bit testy. Watch him unload on this Manchester United fan, and everyone’s afraid it was going to overshadow a great game between Man U and whatever that other team was.

Man United players immediately came up to Bellamy and expressed their disdain at the Welshman’s actions.

The video also shows Javier Garrido being struck by a coin thrown by a Manchester United supporter at half-time. via.

It doesn’t really look like a punch until you see a still of the whole thing, and then it’s pretty obvious that, yeah, he pretty much decked the guy. Dude’s no LeGarrette Blount, but that’s not bad for a wimpy little Briton. But at that point, the security people have to cut that fan loose and let him go after Bellamy. Anyone can be a hero when the other guy has his arms tied up.

UPDATE: BLOUNT GONE FOR THE YEAR

Written by JOSH Z / 09.04.09

UPDATE: Blount has been suspended for the year; his career as an Oregon Duck is over. There’s always the UFL, kid.

It wasn’t bad enough that Oregon had to cost me money by marching out of Boise State with a bizarre 19-8 loss on ESPN last night. No, we had to watch some senior awesomely lose any sense of composure and totally coldcock some white guy. Yeah, running back LeGarrette Bounte, who ran for 1,000 yards last year by the way, basically ruined Byron Hout’s poop before almost coming to blows with his own teammates and being restrained from fans by stadium security. Lotta pride in that feller there, and one can only speculate how severely Oregon will act to discipline him.

“I tell you what, that will never happen again,” Blount continued. “I will never lose my head again. … I should have handled that situation a lot better than I did.” via.

But let’s not forget that this whole thing was touched off by Hout slapping Blount on the shoulder pad and getting into his ear. We can see Boise State head coach Chris Petersen returning the favor before Blount delivers a Nike swoosh of his own to Hout’s chin. Should Hout be suspended for touching a guy’s shoulder pads? No, he should be suspended for running his mouth without wearing his helmet. Stupidity like that deserves a punishment all its own.

Oh, and South Carolina won last night, 7-3. No. 19 Utah also won, and the rest of the games were kinda blah. Thanks, Joel, for the vid, and you’re right: Emilio Estevez would never let his Ducks do this.

UFC 102: COUTURE LOSES, STILL GETTING PAID

Written by JOSH Z / 08.31.09

So, you guys ever gonna do a News Radio reunion show?

The sport of mixed martial arts saw its own iteration of “Age in the Cage” at UFC 102 on Saturday when 33-year-old Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira took on 46-year-old legend Randy Couture in Portland Saturday. Couture was overpowered by the enormous Brazilian in the three-round bout, but went the distance as Nogueira pulled out a unanimous decision. I pulled out yesterday also, but that’s a story for another time, kids. Hey, who wants ice cream?

Of the 11 fights on the card, three fights were settled in 1:35 or less, including Todd Duffee’s seven-second bashing of Tim Hague, who caught a left hand with the wrong part of his face [video]. But even that fight couldn’t win the $60,000 Knockout of the Night bonus, which went to Evan Danny Bosephus Nate Marquardt, who stopped Demian Maia in 21 seconds. That’s like three times as long! Lazy. Full results. Payouts.

Despite losing, Couture already has re-upped with UFC in a deal will see the former Oklahoma State wrestler finish his career with the promotion with whom he walked out on less than two years ago. Couture actually sent a letter to Dana White in October 2007 resigning as heavyweight champion after “swimming against the current with the management of the UFC.” He probably just wanted an office with a window. It’s those little things that make the workday more bearable. Read the rest of this entry »

TIM SYLVIA GOT KNOCKED THE FUGGOW

Written by Matt / 06.15.09

Tim Sylvia, the former UFC heavyweight champion who was once considered one of the toughest fighters in the world (not many people choose a broken arm over tapping out), has been old and crappy for some time now, and he finally bottomed out this weekend at “Adrenaline III: Bragging Rights” in Birmingham this weekend, when he weigh in at a hefty 310 pounds and got knocked out less than 10 seconds into the first round.  As you can see from the video, he’s clearly unconscious before he even hits the ground, which I haven’t seen since I drugged your mom’s drink.  Not that I needed to.  Because she’s easy.

In more important MMA news, UFC 99 was held on Saturday night, and for the most part it was a pretty entertaining card.  The highlights:

THIS WELL-ORGANIZED FIGHT LOOKS REAL

Written by JOSH Z / 05.13.09

Sports Videos, News, Blogs

Ever wonder how much better a Jean-Claude Van Damme movie would be without Jean-Claude Van Damme? Generally more awesome, and significantly shorter. And without all the forced ESL dialogue. In otherwords, a lot like this video of a street fight in some undisclosed location some bag-assed movie called Never Back Down that I’ve never seen before. Whoops. I guess you guys don’t want to see my totally-real interview with some journalist from Kazakhstan now…

I’m sure that when they started UFC that they wanted every fight to look like this. Now I know why Terrence Howard took the white guy in that one movie.
