I don’t really get figure skating, but I appreciate it for what it is: terrific female athletes being generous with the cameltoe. But leave it to our fave Finn Kiira Korpi to kick it up a notch with this routine in the 2010 Euros last month, where she’s dressed up as a cop and then peels off her sequined uni to reveal more conventional regalia. It’s meant to express the difficulties of a woman striving for what she wants in a man’s world, and that sometimes a woman has to act like a man…or she just really likes taking her clothes off. If you think figure skating is stupid now, you should have been around during the early days of the sport. In fact, the first half of the “competition” involved skaters literally tracing “figures” laid out on the ice, and then all the judges would waddle out there and see how close they came. It was pointless and boring, and in 1973 the figures component was thrown out entirely for what we now call the short program. Coincidentally, any time you’d be fortunate to spend with Finnish figure skater Kiira Korpi would also be…a short program. At least now you have a reason to watch the Winter Olympics.
