The 10 Best Vicious Football Hits You’ll See This Week: Kids Edition!

Written by Ashley Burns / 10.27.11

Here at With Leather, we’re suckers for some good violence, between Brandon’s love of wrestling and my appreciation of a good football to the groin. But we don’t always get to catch all of the best stories and videos of the day, because we’re so busy trying to balance blogging and teaching MMA to toddlers. It’s a pretty hectic life we lead. But thankfully I have a lot of friends who have young kids and are starting to introduce them to sports to fill my email inbox with stories and videos of their kids dropping balls or spinning in circles. They keep me pretty grounded.

Of course that led me to exploring the YouTubes the other day for funny pee wee and child football league clips and I discovered what we basically already knew – parents are monsters. First of all, I know parents think their kids are the most awesome kids in the world, but that doesn’t mean they have to post 10,000 videos of their kids with each video claiming to be the most amazing play in pee wee football history. Secondly, kids aren’t very bright when they’re young. They can’t quite understand the complexities of football plays, so yelling at them about lining up properly or running routes doesn’t really register. You might want to stick to the basics.

Thankfully, out of the hundred or so pee wee and Pop Warner football videos I ended up watching this week, there were a few that had some quality entertainment values to them. Please note, that I’m not condoning violence in child sports – because there were a few videos I could have included but I’m not a monster so any that resulted in injuries or crying have been left out – but it is pretty funny watching kids tackle each other. Enjoy!

9-Year Old Girl Can Beat You Up

Written by Ashley Burns / 04.13.11

Normally posting videos of 9-year old girls isn’t something that we’re too into, not with “laws” and stuff, but every so often a child athlete pops into the picture and deserves some recognition. Nine-year old Naomi Kutin is becoming an Internet sensation since a video surfaced or her squatting 187-pounds recently. At only 88 lbs., Naomi’s physical strength is impressive, or at least it seems like it is, because the most squatting I did at 9 years was for picking up Nintendo cartridges to blow on them.

Naomi showed off her pint-sized power in a series of weightlifting challenges in Burlington, Vermont – state motto “Raw Liberty, Raw Power” – as she also put up 66-lbs. in the bench press and 193-lbs in the dead lift. All in all, these videos have really inspired me. Not to start working out more, mind you, but to find more videos of monkeys drinking their own pee on YouTube.

Bully’s Mom Wants Victim’s Apology

Written by Ashley Burns / 03.17.11

Thanks to round-the-clock news that focuses on news that shouldn’t really be focused on, we know considerably more about Casey, AKA Zangief’s Son, AKA Kid Zangief, AKA Casey the Punisher, AKA that kid who body slammed the bejesus out of that stupid kid who was picking on him. Casey Heynes is a Year 10 student at Chifley College’s Dunheved Campus in Australia, and his tormentor was a younger student named Ritchard Gale. According to numerous reports, both students were suspended for 4 days (one report claimed that Gale was suspended for 17 days), and despite Casey’s evident case of self defense, the school’s officials claimed that they have a zero tolerance policy on any kind of fighting. Even Foxy Boxing? Damn, I thought you were cool, Australia.

While Casey’s parents have expressed their concern over their son becoming an instant worldwide hero – coincidentally during the same week as Australia’s National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence tomorrow (the focus is ironically bystanders, presumably with video cameras) – it is Gale’s mother who has come out and demanded an apology from Casey.

This Is The Proper Response To Bullies

Written by Ashley Burns / 03.15.11

When my paisano Vincenzo emailed me this video we wondered if I could turn it into something sports-related. Eventually I just said, “F*ck it” because I’m a rebel and I don’t play by the man’s rules. But if you really want to be a jerk about it, I’ll point out that schoolyard fights are one of this country’s most time-honored competitive traditions. And while nerdy celebrities continue to bring attention to bullying in our public schools, I think it’s high time that we told the bullies to meet us at the bike rack for a little ass kicking.

Take this kid, for instance, who found some Twitter fame yesterday under the nickname “Zangief’s Son” and “Kid Zangief”, an obvious nod to Street Fighter. It appears that Big Z here was the target of a tiny Napoleon’s wrath, and while pipsqueak got one good shot in, Z’s reaction is just downright priceless. According to Deadspin, his actual name is Casey and he’s been a constant target of bullying. Sadly, he ended up getting suspended for defending himself.

Casey’s big moment after the jump, as well as a special remix…

UPDATE: I fixed the video. Sorry, I’ve been out apologizing to all the fat kids I used to pick on.

UPDATE No. 2: Both kids were suspended for four days, according to MSNBC, but Casey’s family believes that he’s in for even worse treatment when he returns to school.

Add Daron Bryden To Your Mock Draft

Written by Ashley Burns / 03.07.11

With all of the football and soccer trick shots making the web rounds – Johnny McEntee, Alex Tanney, Zach Enyeart, Lassi Hurskainen, the U.S. Women’s Cup Team, etc. etc. – I had thought we’d seen it all. But I thought too fast, friends, because 8-year old Daron Bryden is here to show us a thing or two. Daron is the quarterback for the Manchester Sentinels youth football team in Connecticut, and according to the video after the jump, he is one of the top youth football prospects in the country, which leads me to wonder: 1) How do you rank youth football players? and Two) Does he need an agent?

Daron shows off three tricks for us – the half-court basket pass, knocking a shoe off of two stacked trash cans from 15 yards, and a 30-yard trash can swish. In related news, Chad Henne claims he’s making progress on his next trick – throwing to his teammates.

This Child Will Beat Up Your Child

Written by Ashley Burns / 03.04.11

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls of all ages, let me introduce to you 8-year old Stevo Paulin, a pint-sized bat out of h-e-double-bendy-straws who is making a name for himself in the increasingly popular child wrestling circuit. As of this week, Stevo has compiled an overall record of 256-26, which is insane. I can only imagine he hired Nick Patrick to follow him to daycare centers where he just pins random kids for the 3-count to maintain his toddlerweight title.

As for his name, I’m curious to know how it’s pronounced, because it could be Stevo like Steh-vo, which is cool. But from the adult with purple Mohawk in the video after the jump, I’m guessing that when this kid was born, the doctor asked the father what the child’s name would be and he yelled, “STEVE-O, YOU PUSSY MOTHER F*CKER!” And then he chugged a Mountain Dew Code Red and gave the doctor a DDT. In summation, this kid is going to grow up to be a dick.
