Indiana’s Yogi Ferrell Released A Rap Song (When He Was In The Sixth Grade)

Written by Brandon Stroud / 05.01.13

Yogi Ferrell rap song

Indiana point guard Yogi Ferrell is a talented kid, but you can’t know how truly talented he is until you’ve heard him rap about wanting to go to Duke, but how he won’t because his cousin goes there, when he was 13 years old. Yep, Yogi recorded a rap song back in the sixth grade, when he was merely a Boo-Boo, and it is adorable.

A quick explanation, courtesy of YouTube user Channing Mitzell:

So I just found my computer from 6th grade and this video (from seven years ago) was on my hard drive. I have no idea how or why this was on here but I thought I’d share haha. If I remember correctly, back in 6th grade at Park Tudor we had a business fair (in Mr Weymuth’s class) where every student had to sell a product…this was his product haha. In case someone cares, this was posted with yogi’s permission

Here’s the song, if you’re interested in buying Yogi’s product:

This 5-Year Old Is Better Than You (And Maybe Ronaldinho) At Soccer

Written by Brandon Stroud / 03.22.13

Here’s an adorable clip of an … awesome 5-year old playing “keepy-uppy” with Brazilian soccer ninja Ronaldinho. It’s the right mix of skillful and adorable, and more of what we should be seeing in soccer stories. You know, more “having fun and being talented,” less “somebody tossed a grenade onto the field.” (via Prep Rally)

Sports On TV: Arthur’s 20 Greatest Sports Moments

Written by Brandon Stroud / 01.10.13

Arthur Sports moments

And I say HEY! What a wonderful time of day! Where you can learn to work and play, and read the first Sports On TV of 2013: the 20 greatest sports moments from PBS Kids’ ‘Arthur.’

‘Arthur’ is about the mostly-educational adventures of Arthur Read, an 8-year old aardvark who … well, learns to work and play and get along with the people in his hometown of Elwood City. Arthur started as a series of children’s books by author and illustrator Marc Brown, and eventually became a cartoon so popular it has over 1.1 million likes on Facebook and is the longest-running children’s animated series in the U.S., second behind only ‘The Simpsons’ as the longest-running animated series in the U.S. period. It’s also full of sports, and sometimes I like to write things on my comedy sports blog that my girlfriend will enjoy.

If you don’t already love ‘Arthur’ and have no interest in flipping through this list, listen to the opening theme, included below. If you can listen to the entire thing and not sing it for the rest of the day, I’ll let you off the hook.

Great News, Dads: Pole Dancing Classes Are Finally Being Offered For Kids

Written by Ashley Burns / 09.12.12

We’ve made no secret of our appreciation of pole dancing as a sport in the past, from coverage of international pole dancing competitions to Chicago Bears fan busting their asses to the superstar athletes at Rick’s Cabaret and their appreciation of this site. Unfortunately, as with most exciting fads, it was only a matter of time before pole dancing as a form of exercise was taken too far, and we can thank the free-wheeling party animals of Vancouver for taking something so beautiful and making it so dirty.

The Twisted Grip dance studio on Vancouver Island has become a global laughing stock because of a special pole dancing class that it offers… for children. Gee, how could anyone have a bad opinion about this great idea?

Twisted Grip owner Kristy Craig told QMI Agency she’s shocked by the amount of negative attention the story has received.

“It’s nothing new,” she said, noting pole-dancing competitions are already offered in Russia and the UK “People need to really look into it before jumping to any conclusions about what I’m offering.” (Via Sun News)

Fair enough, I’ll give her that. And besides, the parents have to make the actual decision to sign their daughters up for this class, so it’s really on them to change the negative perception.

Tearjerking Story Of The Day: Matt Finishes His Run At Field Day

Written by Brandon Stroud / 05.30.12

oh good, I needed to sob uncontrollably for the entire afternoon

By way of The Daily What comes this video of Matt, a kid at Colonial Hills Elementary School in Ohio. Matt was given the option to sit out or run in the school’s Field Day Race, and he chose to run. The important note here is that Matt has spastic cerebral palsy, a condition that stands up on its back legs and says YOU CAN’T RUN. And he runs.

If you aren’t crying already, wait until they get to the part where Matt’s classmates start cheering him on. Argh, my heart! In a world of ironic Metta World Peace videos and people being awful, it’s nice to remember that people aren’t so bad, and that sports can give us some of our finest moments.

Also, that a kid with CP is way better than me at Field Day.

A Third Grader Made A Great Half Court Shot

Written by Ashley Burns / 04.04.12

Basketball's only true hero.

If you haven’t heard the name Austin Worthen before today, that’s probably a good thing. He’s a third grade boy, and unless you’re related to him, you shouldn’t have any idea who he is. But as of today you have an excuse, because he’s become the Internet sports star du jour, thanks to a half court shot that he heaved up at the third quarter buzzer during a recent tournament game in Oklahoma.

But before you go thinking this is some random case of luck, know that young Austin is just that good, because according to his dad, he’s the hardest working third grader in the world.

According to his dad, Austin Worthen has practiced this shot a thousand times.

But this time he sank the basket at the buzzer and with dad taping the entire game.

The shot came at the end of the 3rd quarter.

Austin’s team won the game 25-4 and they finished second overall in the tournament. (Via KOBI 5 News)

Damn, that’s a bummer that they lost. Oh well, no time to read comic books and play video games for Austin. Gotta get right back in that gym and start heaving up a thousand half court shots so he’ll be ready for next year’s tournament. NO SLACKING, YOU P*SSIES!
