Teenagers Won’t Stop Kicking Footballs Spectacularly

Written by Brandon Stroud / 11.01.12

Following in the footsteps of the 8th grader who kicked a 63-yard field goal in practice and a high-schooler connecting from 67 yards out in a game is this clip of a Florida teen punting a football as well as you’ll ever see it punted. Somebody should sign all of them and put them into a weird teenage football-kicking Legion Of Doom. (via Bush League Chronicle)

Here’s A High Schooler Kicking A 67 Yard Field Goal

Written by Brandon Stroud / 10.19.12

67 yard field goalStep aside, 63-yard field goal kicking 8th-grader, there’s a new sheriff in town.

Without the aid of a practice environment, kicking tee, unmarked field or anything else that would’ve made you nitpick a 13-year old’s accomplishment comes this clip of Central Valley High School kicker Austin Rehkow sending Thursday’s game against Shadle Park High into overtime with a massive 67 yard field goal. Watch in amazement as he drains it from his own 43 yard line.

Beer Mug Sports helped fill us in on Austin’s kick’s two biggest statistical honors:

ESPN’s SportsCenter recognized the kick with the No. 2 spot on Thursday night’s Top 10 plays, only to be outdone by Prince Fielder catching a pop-up to seal the ALCS for the Tigers at No. 1.

According to The National Federation of High Schools Record Book, Rehkow’s kick is tied for the second-longest high school field goal of all-time. Dirk Borgognone of Reno, Nev., holds the record with a 68-yard field goal in 1985. Two other kickers connected on 67-yard field goals in the past. One from Georgia in 1999 and another from Texas in 1987.

His third biggest achievement is making that referee do the Rockaway.

Good Morning, Here’s An 8th-Grader Kicking A 63-Yard Field Goal

Written by Brandon Stroud / 10.16.12

That’s 14-year-old Blake Carter kicking a 63-yard field goal in practice. For added entertainment value, consult the YouTube comments section for this video, where not a single person can accept the clip at face value. He’s using a kicking tee! There are no markers on the field! His approach was wrong! The hang-time wasn’t accurate to NFL standards! Bleargh! (via Lost Lettermen)

Hay, It’s The National Shin-Kicking Championships

Written by Brandon Stroud / 06.07.12

shinkicking-world-championshipsFinally, something less constructive than Air Sex!

Welcome to Britain’s National Shin-Kicking Championships, a test of European might wherein guys stuff hay into their tube socks and kick each other in the shins until one falls down. It’s the centerpiece of the Cotswold Olimpick Games, a 400-year tradition that also includes potato sack races and tug-of-war. I don’t know exactly why this happens, but my working theory is that a bunch of 8-year olds in 1600s Great Britain f**ked around on Field Day and didn’t stop for four centuries. That, or England bases its athletic exhibitions on episodes of ‘The Brady Bunch’.

Our very own Christmas Ape wrote about the sport in 2008 and Burnsy’s hero is the Thunder Shin Man, but this is my first chance to share two guys kicking the sh*t out of each others’ shins for sport and I’m taking it. But hey, don’t think shin-kicking is just about kicking another guy in the shins — that would royally piss off judge James Wiseman.

“I kind of get quite annoyed when people think shin-kicking is literally two guys just facing each other and kicking each other as hard as possible in the shins.”

“It’s like they didn’t even SEE us stuffing hay into our socks.”

Maybe this just started off as a way for British guys to ruin their opponents for the sack race. I don’t know, I’m going to spend the rest of the day coming up with explanations.

Dear NFL, Please Add This Next

Written by Ashley Burns / 02.02.11

The team at Break recently recorded video footage that answers the ultimate sports question – Who would win between a place kicker and five guys with shotguns? And while I’m sure you’re taking the time to analyze the question thoroughly and ask ancillary questions like, “What is the distance?” and “Is the kicker Graham Gano?”, just watch the video and experience the obvious-yet-awesome nature of it.

Call me old-fashioned or just call me plain, old American, but there’s simply something about guns and football that does it for me. This is a lot like that scene in The Last Boy Scout, except not acting out my fantasy football frustrations.

Video after the jump…
