New York Daily News writer Frank Isola is the kind of reporter that Bart Scott would love to have covering the New York Jets, because he has a reputation for covering the Knicks rather favorably (among other things). But sometimes being in a team’s pocket can have its benefits, which is why Isola is the best in the business when it comes to providing insider Knicks info, and he dropped quite the horrifying Knicks Knugget yesterday.

According to Isola’s “source”, Knicks owner James Dolan is trying very hard to re-hire Isiah Thomas. That sound you hear is a million Knicks fans slapping their foreheads.

“Isiah is very close with Jim Dolan but he’s told me that he’s not ready to jump back into the NBA just yet,” said the source, who was with Thomas on Friday at the Basketball Hall of Fame induction ceremony in Springfield, Mass. “There’s this perception out there that Isiah is desperate to get back, but that’s false. I think it will eventually happen but just not now.”

Isola also points out that the Knicks only have two job openings right now – D-League coach and an assistant coach position under Mike Woodson. If Zeke took the assistant job, it would just add more fuel to the comedy fire, because he sucked as an NBA coach (.341 career winning percentage) and he was horrendous as the head coach at FIU (26-65 career record). I can’t imagine that Woodson would be too pleased adding that legacy of excrement to his staff. And as for the D-League gig, well, please see: college coaching record.

Regardless, until this hilariously unbelievable idea that Thomas isn’t desperate to get back in the NBA and work for the Knicks again to repair his tarnished legacy dissipates, it’s safe to say that Dolan is simply trying to do everything short of moving the team to make sure that every last Knicks fan is wearing Brooklyn Nets gear this season. If he’d really like to complete the bandwagon exodus, he should just have his band play halftime of the season opener.

"A-one, a-two, a-one, two, three, four terrible contracts!"

As I updated in yesterday’s post about Carmelo Anthony hoping the New York Knicks would keep Jeremy Lin – presumably while making a dismissive wanking motion – the Knicks did not match the offer sheet that Lin signed with the Houston Rockets and he is, in fact, heading back to the same team that booted him last year. Of course, this time the Rockets will be paying him just a few dollars more.

To gauge a reaction of Knicks fans and NBA fans in general, all you have to do is search Jeremy Lin on Twitter and you’ll run the gauntlet from euphoric Rockets fans to angry Knicks fans to lazy racism to the same media that adored Lin now tearing him to shreds. Hell, some Knicks fans are even openly jumping ship to the Brooklyn Nets bandwagon, which was expected anyway. (Seriously, if your team sucks this season, the most fun thing to monitor will be New York fans in general. I predict that they’ll collectively be back and forth between the Knicks and Nets as both teams duke it out. It will be awesome and horrible at the same time.)

But perhaps the best response so far is the hit that Knicks owner James Dolan’s band’s Wikipedia page took. Known as JD and the Straight Shot, Dolan’s two-man band is beloved by someone, I guess. At least enough that it warranted a Wikipedia page in the first place. And last night someone edited that page to reflect some delightful new song titles.
