Meet Ruslan Casey, The Jadeveon Clowney Of Rugby (And The Morning Links)

Written by Brandon Stroud / 06.18.13

I’m sure every rugby hit is the hardest rugby hit ever, but I’m officially giving the title of Rugby Jadeveon Clowney to St. Paul’s collegiate student Ruslan Casey. He already sounds like a legendary MMA fighter, and now he’s got a viral clip of his ferocity on the Internet. Keep killing dudes, Ruslan, and I’ll keep sharing it. (h/t to Bush League Chronicle)

The Hit Heard ‘Round The World: The Internet Sure Does Love Jadeveon Clowney

Written by Ashley Burns / 01.03.13

On one hand, if the NFL didn’t have its rule that a player must be three years removed from high school to be eligible to play professional football, South Carolina Gamecocks sophomore defensive end Jadeveon Clowney would be the No. 1 pick in the 2013 NFL Draft. That means that the 2013 Outback Bowl on New Year’s Day would have been the last time SC fans would have watched their 19-year old, 6’6” freak of nature destroy an opposing offense. On the other hand, Cocks fans must absolutely love that NFL rule right now, because it means that Clowney is going to come back for at least one more year. Hell, we should all love that.

By now, you’ve undoubtedly seen Clowney’s insane-o-craz-a-tastic hit on Michigan Wolverines running back Vincent Smith, as it was certainly the key highlight of SC’s 33-28 victory in the Outback Bowl, if not the entire 2012-13 bowl season. And if you’re anything like me, you just can’t stop watching that damn hit. You’re also very handsome and wise beyond your years.

My initial reaction after that hit was, “Cool, I’m going back to sleep” but then my next reaction was, “Boy, the memers on the Interwebs are going to have a field day with that.” In reality, they did, but not as much as I expected them to. Either way, I’ve included some of the best responses, as well as the Day One leading contender for GIF of the year.

Ol’ Ball Coach Stages Arrest At Practice

Written by JOSH Z / 03.28.11

With the NCAA Tournament, the NFL lockout, the arrival of baseball season and that Rebecca Black video, college football has found itself swept under the proverbial rug. You know what that sport could use right now? Coaches getting arrested. Enter South Carolina’s Steve Spurrier.

Anticipating that he would be asked about top signee Jadeveon Clowney‘s recent handcuffing by police after a case of mistaken identity, the South Carolina head coach arranged for a Columbia police officer to walk onto the practice field and “arrest” him during a media session this past weekend. The Head Ball Coach obviously was demonstrating that anyone can be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

–National Football Post.

Roll the video after the jump to the 2-minute mark to see Spurrier cuffed up. I’m sure the Ol’ Ball Coach is no stranger to bondage. They’re totally into that sort of thing in the South. My bets on his safe words are “Pickles,” “Cortisone,” and “Rex Grossman.”
