Israeli Basketball Team Narrowly Escapes Horrifying Encounter With Wild Beast

Written by Ashley Burns / 03.27.12

Sometimes I think we take guys like New Orleans Hornets center Chris Kaman for granted, as he is often mocked and criticized for being such an avid hunter. But he doesn’t care about the criticism, as evidenced by his recent posting of the above image on his Twitter account. Kaman Tweeted the picture in partial jest, as the Hornets were set to play the Charlotte Bobcats, but it also raised an interesting point – don’t we need guys like Kaman in case a wild animal ever gets loose on a basketball court?

Israel’s Maccabi Tel Aviv basketball team now knows the answer to that question is a resounding yes. Recently, during one of their games, the Fightin’… um, Tell Avivers almost had a full blown riot on their hands, when a ferocious beast interrupted game play. I’ve included the video after the jump, but please cover the eyes of any small children near you.

Also, reminder, most of you aren’t supposed to be near small children.

That Throwing Kick Stunt Of Yours Has Boomeranged On Us

Written by Brandon Stroud / 02.29.12

As Jim Croce once explained, there are some things you just don’t do, including:

1. Don’t tug on Superman’s cape.
2. Don’t pull the mask of the ol’ Lone Ranger.
3. Don’t stab Leroy Brown so many times he looks like a puzzle with a couple of pieces gone.
4. Don’t mess around with Jim.

…and in there somewhere he pretty clearly says “don’t kick in the wind”. I’d have to check Lyrics Freak, but I’ve got this video to back me up. From 101 Great Goals:

Maccabi Haifa took on Dynamo Kiev in a friendly today, ahead of Israel’s friendly with Ukraine, and the match was played in ridiculous weather conditions as the wind took on biblical proportions.

The friendly match was only 60 minutes long but there was enough time for one of the strangest goals ever seen. Kiev’s second saw Haifa goalie Assaf Mendes take a goal kick.

Mendes’ punt forward did travel some distance before incredibly coming back on itself past the stunned custodian.

Imagine how bad it would’ve been if he’d spit into that wind?

The Coolest Israeli-Canadian Hockey Goal You’ll See Today

Written by Brandon Stroud / 07.14.11

If there’s one thing we don’t cover enough on this blog, it’s the International Ice Hockey Federation Division III Championships. That’s about to change thanks to Israel’s Eliezer Sherbatov†. The 19-year old capped off a six-point game against Greece during the D-III championships in April in South Africa with one of the coolest shots I’ve ever seen — and one I would’ve seen months ago if International Hockey uploaded highlights without an 80-day delay. Who do they think they are, Major League Baseball?

In case you’re at work and can’t view YouTube videos (because you sold you), Sherbatov breaks all eight of the Greek goalie’s ankles by scooping the puck up between his legs, then tapping it in over the poor guy’s shoulder in mid-air. It was some wonderful hockey amalgamation of Mr. Perfect’s behind-the-back towel toss and Isiah Rider’s East Bay Funk Dunk, and if I could do anything requiring this much hand-eye and total body coordination I would start jumping from high things and trying to fly.

Hopefully we’ll be seeing a lot more of this kid, who deserves at least a Daily Motion-level of exposure. In addition to skating for the Israeli national team, he plays for something called Baie-Comeau Drakkar, which is either a Quebec Major Junior Hockey League team or a character from Twilight.
