Sports On TV: Archer’s 15 Greatest Sports Moments

Written by Brandon Stroud / 05.02.13

Lana. LANA!

Sports On TV is in the Danger Zone.

Our look at the best sports moments from shows that aren’t necessarily about sports takes on FX’s ‘Archer’ this week, and if there’s a show the kids at UPROXX love more than ‘Archer,’ I’d like to see it. Inside, you’ll find one of the most clever, obscure, expertly-written shows on television. You’ll also find lacrosse jokes about rock bands from the 1990s, a guy trying to play baseball in space, Ultimate Bum Shock Fights (which are exactly what they sound like), Siamese fighting fish, and more.

So please click through and-or enjoy Sports On TV: ‘Archer’s’ 15 greatest sports moments.

Sports On TV: It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia’s 15 Greatest Sports Moments

Written by Brandon Stroud / 12.13.12

Green Man Philly Frenetic

After a few weeks of writing about shows me and three other people in the world like (Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers, Boy Meets World, et al.), we decided to dedicate a Sports On TV column to a show the entire UPROXX network loves — ‘It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia,’ FX’s delightfully cruel comedy that has its own page of recaps and commenter badges on the UPROXX mothership.

The show’s use of Philadelphia is at least as comprehensive as ‘The Wire’s’ use of Baltimore, and all of the important Philly area teams and icons have made an appearance on the show … the Eagles, the Flyers, the Phillies, the Phillie Phanatic. ‘It’s Always Sunny’ also launched the worldwide popularity of GREEN MAN, who you may know as “that a-hole in the morphsuit at any sporting event.” It’s an important thing they’re doing, so we’re here to talk about it.

Things we have to apologize for in advance: crude language, situations meant for mature audiences and getting the “Flipadelphia” song stuck in your head again.

This Cannot End Well: Kristin Cavallari Is Filming A Guest Spot On ‘The League’ Today

Written by Ashley Burns / 10.01.12

"What's up, babe? You acting? Sweet, babe."

In newsy news news, writers Joseph Balsamo and Peter Ciancarelli, who you may remember from… just this blog post, are suing FX because they claim that the network ripped off their idea with The League. Balsamo and Ciancarelli claim that they wrote a treatment for The Commissioner, and like The League, it was also about a group of friends who play fantasy football while behaving like men competing against each other naturally behave.

Make sure to properly secure your “Oh give me a f*cking break” faces for this one…

“Given the numerous and striking similarities between the two works, there can be no dispute that defendants Schaffer and/or FX had access to and copied protectable elements of the treatment,” the suit says. The suit then outlined 10 similarities between the two works. The plaintiffs filed Commissioner with the WGA back in 2006 and put the script online soon afterwards in an effort to attract attention. (Via Deadline)

“Ten Similarities Between The League and The Commissioner”? I must have missed that slideshow.

Now I’m no big city slicker fancy lawyer type, but as much as I love The League, it’s about as original as a knock-knock joke. Millions of bros and dudes play fantasy football, and we’re almost all in a league that features different types of guys who talk sh*t to each other, make side bets and generally piss each other off until they stop talking for months at a time or write each other absurd crybaby emails. We all do it, some of us *points to self* more than others.

But who cares about frivolous lawsuits by guys who had a stoner revelation moment of “Bro, we should make a TV show about a fantasy league”, when we have actual awesome news involving The League. Kristin Cavallari, AKA Mrs. Jay Cutler, filmed a guest spot for the show today.

Ronda Rousey, Bald Ugly Guy Show Up To Support ‘Sons Of Anarchy’

Written by Brandon Stroud / 09.11.12

Strikeforce Women’s Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey is a volatile red-carpet personality who sorta looks like somebody bombarded actress Julia Stiles with gamma radiation and isn’t afraid to detail how many times she’d punch Kim Kardashian in the face. She also looks really great naked. UFC President Dana White looks like a guy who’d have a non-speaking role as “Dan’s poker buddy #3″ in the background of a ‘Roseanne’ episode. He won’t stop throwing up the “hang loose” gesture. It’s not surprising that when they stand together, the effects of both are magnified tenfold.

To illustrate this point, here are Ronda Rousey and Dana White walking the red carpet at an event to promote the new season of FX’s ‘Sons Of Anarchy’. The photographers (who communicate by going EHH EHHH EHH EHHH until somebody looks at them) are not shy about telling Dana to take 30 steps to the right to get his gross face out of their Ronda Rousey torso shot, and he obliges, because shit, he totally understands.

As Cage Potato points out, he’s got this red carpet accompaniment thing down-pat.

I’ll say one thing about DW: Whenever he does a photo-op with an attractive woman, he doesn’t act like a hover-handing sissy. He leans in and grabs a piece. Best perk of the job, if you ask me.

My advice: stay as far away from Charlie Hunnam as possible. Hunnam and Rousey would make those super babies from Baby Geniuses 2.
