A Definitive Gallery Of Your Favorite City’s Sports Team Logos Combined

Written by Ashley Burns / 11.28.12

Often times, when I’m doing my morning interwebbrowsinggooglebingtumbletweet routine and sucking down 6 gallons of coffee, I’ll stumble across a picture or video that’s really cool, and I’ll be like, “Hey, the With Leather readers might like this” and then I realize that it’s three years old and it’s already been watermarked by 60 sites that had nothing to do with making it. But sometimes I’m willing to make an exception under the Burnsy Rule of “I ain’t never seen this” and today is one of those days.

Yesterday, CBS Sports re-blogged or re-Tumbled, whatever it’s called, a bigger version of the above image that features a collection of “What If?” city sports team logos. Basically, someone got all hopped up on Photoshop juice and asked the question that nobody else was asking – “What would it look like if sports teams in major cities combined their logos?” And I thought that was really cool. But the problem was, damn dude, why are those logos so tiny?

So I went back to the source of the image, thanks to Tumblr’s handy “Okay, who really posted this?” feature, and that was a dead end, because the person who blogged it 500 notes ago had nothing to do with making it. Thankfully, I know how to type and I have a functional IQ, and I was able to search a little and determine that not only did that awesome image come from a message board thread at Chris Creamer’s Sports Logos from earlier this year, but the creative kids commenting on that site went off with this fun idea.

Specifically, a commenter named “Firefly” had a field day with a variety of sports city logos from Washington DC to San Diego and back, and other commenters joined in to rep their favorite cities. Some of them are awesome and some need a little work, but after the jump you can pick your favorites and then go get them tattooed on your faces like good sports fans.

Meme Watch: The Internet Reacted Appropriately To The Texas Tech Streaker

Written by Ashley Burns / 10.17.12

Heading into last Saturday’s matchup between West Virginia and Texas Tech, most people expected that one of the quarterbacks was going to have a monster game and his team would win in a blowout, and that QB would be Heisman frontrunner Geno Smith. And as we know now, that was wrong. The real badass QB of the day was Seth Doege, as the Tech senior threw for 504 yards and 6 TDs in his team’s 49-14 thrashing of the then-No. 5 Mountaineers. But nobody cares about that anymore, thanks to that wonderful gentleman above.

The details of this Tracy Jordan-esque runner at Jones AT&T Stadium from this matchup are still mostly unknown. Some people claim to know the dum-dum’s name, but I don’t care about that. What I want to know is the important details, and thankfully when Scott MacWatters, the person who captured this incredible picture of the would-be streaker with a delighted police officer in chase, showed up on Reddit to take credit, one person asked the truly essential questions.

Alex Rodriguez Is An Admirer Of Art And Terrible Photoshops

Written by Ashley Burns / 09.20.12

With 14 games remaining, the New York Yankees are clinging to a shocking half-game lead over the Baltimore Orioles in the AL East race. Granted, if the Yankees lose that lead, they’ll still be sitting comfortable in a Wild Card spot, but even with a loss to the Toronto Blue Jays today, New York would still be tied for first, as the O’s have the day off. Bunch of lazy jerks.

On Monday, though, the Yankees had the day off, which allowed superstar third baseman Alex Rodriguez a little “me” time to hit the town and take in some culture. Specifically, A-Rod was hitting up the museums to eye f*ck some art, as he posted the above image to his Facebook account on Monday.

What a great day off, admired lots of great art… Including this gorgeous Basquiat!

The work in question that Rodriguez was admiring is “Pegasus”, a 1987 work by famed graffiti artist Jean-Michel Basquiat, who was, of course, one of Andy Warhol’s protégés and close friends. He was also the subject of the 1996 film, Basquiat, starring Jeffrey Wright. I often told my friends that I loved that movie, but I was a stupid kid and didn’t actually understand it.

I bet A-Rod gets Basquiat, because he’s always been a classy son-of-a-gun, and to further prove that point, I actually followed him around as he admired plenty of other things on his day off. How exactly did I manage to follow him without being noticed and, as some people might point out, that I “wasn’t even in New York at any point in my life”? I learned from the master himself.

After the jump, check out the amazing sites that A-Rod spent his Monday off checking out. Also, I think the guy might be kind of a pervert.

Aaron Rodgers Wussed Out On His Bet So We Photoshopped Him Into 49ers Jerseys

Written by Ashley Burns / 09.12.12

For all the times that we’ve talked about how likable Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers seems, this sure hasn’t been his best week. It started off playfully enough, with Rodgers and Nathan Morris of Boyz II Men making a bet that if the Packers lost to the San Francisco 49ers last weekend, Rodgers would have to wear an Alex Smith jersey. The Packers, of course, lost and a man even wrote erotic fan fiction as a result to hold up his end of a bet that he made.

So Rodgers wore the Smith jersey then, right? Wrong.

But earlier today, Rodgers addressed the media — and when he was asked about the wager, he sounded like a man trying to get out of donning his rival’s jersey. “There’s nothing to that,” Rodgers said … adding, “That got blown way out of proportion.” Still, Rodgers DID acknowledge a bet was made … saying, “It was at best a joke between friends, and, unfortunately, the great reporting of TMZ blew another one.” (Via TMZ)

Wow, Rodgers just took the masters of random CAPS LOCK and ellipses to the wood shed. Hopefully they have a killer response.

15 Ironic T-Shirts The NBA Should Also Sell

Written by Ashley Burns / 06.06.12

When Orlando Magic and eventual Brooklyn Nets center Dwight Howard agreed to sign his one-year extension to “let the Magic try to keep him”, a lot of people were pissed off at Miami Heat guard Dwyane Wade when he made fun of Howard on Twitter for his overzealous use of the word “loyalty”. But bless their silly hearts, Magic fans – *points to self, frowns* – believed that Howard really was giving his team a shot until they eventually learned that he only signed the deal to avoid a deadline trade to the Los Angeles Lakers. Loyalty indeed.

So imagine the response of the Internets yesterday when people revealed that Adidas and the NBA have been selling a Dwight Howard “Loyalty” t-shirt all along. Yikes, talk about ironic. Even hipsters have a hard time purchasing that t-shirt online, donating it to the Goodwill and then begrudgingly buying it after they “find it” a few days later. But this shirt got me thinking: “What other absurd shirts could the NBA be pumping out to bilk devoted fans out of their hard-earned cash?”

*scratches spot on chin where hair would grow if he could grow facial hair, fires up Photoshop*

Cole Hamels Liked Our Terrible Photoshops

Written by Ashley Burns / 06.05.12

My friends ask me all the time, “Burnsy, why are you always making all of those crazy photoshops and are you ever going to pay us the money you owe?” and my answers are “Because one day I hope that an athlete might notice something I did and truly appreciate it” and “HEY! LOOK OVER THERE!”

Well, that day is finally here, friends. Our beloved peers at Zoo With Roy recently had the incredibly adorable Awesome Emma interview Philadelphia Phillies ace Cole Hamels – a guy I truly enjoy watching pitch despite not being a Phillies fan – at an event for his Hamels Foundation. The entire video is worth a watch, because Emma is impossibly delightful and has a very bright future, but for those of you saddled with ADD, the payoff comes around the 3:15 mark.

A few weeks ago, Zoo With Roy sent out the battle cry for photoshops of a specific picture of Hamels, and I answered with a few. One was the above image of Hamels on Splash Mountain, and it turns out that he was quite fond of it.
